Not everyone's customer service skills suck at Flora-Dec! Although, it is a hit-or-miss proposition. While waiting for wifey, I saw the gentleman behind the counter come around to escort a customer that what they were looking for. The other two girls behind the cash registers were laughing and having a good time, while waiting for someone to serve. Well, wifey is finally ready to checkout and all of a sudden that happy employee turned into some kind of MMA fighter getting ready kick butt! No "may I help you?" or "thank you"! All I saw were thick eyebrows, pouting lips and braces! And the only reason I saw those braces was because she had to eventually announce our total to pay, NOT to grace us with a smile! Talk about a miss! Maybe she gets paid by her fellow employees and not us customers? That must be it! Why else would she be nice to her co-workers and rude to the paying customers! I'm giving this place a VERY lofty 4 stars, they teeter on 3, but since they had a section of Christmas decor at a very cheap price that was totally kitschy, I'll give them a slight bump. I think Savers has a better Halloween section, IMO & the pots for your plants were just not worth the sticker price. Really, that basic red clay 14 gal pot is NOT $89. I saw NOTHING as far as Autum or fall decor went. NADA, ZILCH, No that over priced leafy garland crap didn't count. So, that was another disappointment. There was a pretty good selection of items as far as small parties go, i.e. showers, kids bday, graduation. Better than Price Busters I guess, I dunno, with a PB being in closer driving distance than this place, I'd go to PB. If you were trying to do a wedding on the cheap with some DIY stuff, I'd go online, this place wasn't anywhere near as affordable as other places on the internet. Again, here we are with unfriendly staff, being a crafty person and all you would definitely think that flora-dec of all places would have everything you need for a crafting project. Seeing that only Wal mart and Ben Franklin have yarn. I thought "hmm maybe flora-dec would have some because that's a big ass store full of craft supplies". Nope I was wrong no yarn so beware if you knit or crochet flora-dec is not your store. When I first went to this place I was like wow this is like the Costco/Sam's Club/Fisher's of craft/party supplies and such. They have a great Halloween costume section when it's Halloween season. They also have tons of stuff whatever the occasion may be whether it's stuff for your own party, Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc. Getting over to the store may be hard if it's your first time going there but it's pretty much on Nimitz around the Kmart area around there after you pass Zippy's the and Huli-Huli chicken place and they have their own lot. You'll know the employees of this store by the surly, yet blank, expressions on their faces as they scurry around the store with their eyes trained to the floor and away from customers. Don't ask questions, because they don't want to help you. Just wander aimlessly for an unspecified amount of time among the huge aisles, allowing your frustration to mount as they each systematically ignore you. Forget the welcoming greeting or a "May I help you find anything?" They'd rather you find it yourself and get the hell out of the store before they start cashing out their registers and locking up the store 5 minutes before closing. Points for having a big selection and the ability to place an order to a corporate account. Minus points for making it a "self-service" type of place. Much like an ostrich buries its head in the sand and hopes you won't know it's there, each of the flunkies working here thinks the best approach is a non-approach. Out of curiosity (and irritation), I read other reviews and discovered that less-than-lackluster customer service seems to be the theme here. Is their ownership local? Does their management care? Because either way, someone needs to be paying a lot more attention and devoting just a modicum of time to staff training before I can consider coming back. read more

I've tried several attempts to refrain from this review. The customer service is absolutely horrible. Each time I am in the store, sale associates walk past as if I am not there, as I am clearly looking for an item. When I ask for help it appears as if they are bothered. Flora-Dec is located on Nimitz Highway near Ron's Performance and down the road from Sam Choy's Breakfast, Lunch, and Crab. The parking lot is more than enough stalls and I've never arrived to NOT have parking. I know that this store is a huge craft store with a huge selection, but the BF and I only frequent this place for Halloween costumes. We've always passed this place while driving on Nimitz Highway, but only a couple years ago did we venture inside after hearing on the radio that they sell Halloween costumes. The main store has the crafts, and then you can enter the back area where they have Halloween items. There is NO air conditioner back here (just fans) and it gets pretty HOT. Ugghh I hate being hot! I really wish they'd have air conditioning in the back. Anywaaay.. so they have an assortment of male/female/children's costumes, as well as wigs, props, and decorations for home. They only have ONE dressing room so be prepared for a wait if there are a handful of others who want to try on costumes. Prices here are a TAAAAD bit cheaper than Party City. (depends on the costume) For 2010 my BF got his Mad Hatter costume here (almost $50) and for 2011 my BF bought his creepy zombie costume here for $40. Pretty cheap! The only downside... NO REFUNDS on seasonal items. I wish they'd offer a refund if you return the item PRIOR to the "seasonal date"... that's the only plus to Party City. If you return the costume BEFORE Halloween they'll grant the refund. Fair enough I think! Just in case you change your mind (like I'm notorious for doing!) So minus 1 star for not even offering a return if it's prior to the occasion. Other than that, a very decent selection of Halloween costumes and items to ensure a spooktacular Halloween! Staff have been hit or miss here. No one has been rude... but it's either they're super friendly or just indifferent. read more

I also like how you can buy things in bulk here (e.g., glass items, basic party supplies, etc.) They also have a pretty good selection of items around the major holidays. I came here a lot to get wedding decoration supplies for our reception. I love their wide array of ribbons, wrapping paper, dried branches for crafts and many other items you could use for wedding decorations. In the back right corner there is a small Martha Stewart craft section that had great wine bottle labels that we used to print our table numbers. You stick it on a wine bottle and let the guests take the bottle home. There are other neat idea kits from Martha Stewart in that station. In the back left is a wide array of bachelorette party and wedding favors, plates, table numbers, candy favors, cake toppers, etc. You name it they got it. Although some of the styles were not to my liking, if you are having a small wedding or in need of fast decoration accessories, this is the place to be. And of course there are other craft stuff available for other projects - candles, rocks, fake flowers, table decorations, dried plants/branches, millions of vases, etc. There is always parking available and I've never had a problem with their staff. read more

Fantastic selection of Christmas decorations and not just the traditional stuff. I went to find some fun add-ins for the Christmas tree and found some super stuff!! Red glitter anthuriums -- check!; Red poinsettia -- check!; Teeny tiny ornaments for mini trees -- check!; 50 ft of Wired ribbon -- check (and on sale!); Window clings -- check check check! You get the point. I don't think they are the cheapest place for decorations and craft supplies, but they do have an awesome selection and quality products. You generally don't have much time for special events and the holidays, so it's helpful to find everything you need in one stop with a big parking lot! The employees could use a little pick-me-up as they can sometimes be grumpy and unhelpful. Overall, been coming here for years for quality craft items and basically can't finish a big project without Flora-dec. read more

Flora-Dec has EVERYTHING, I repeat, EVERYTHING you need, and then MORE of what you don't need! This is your non-stop place for any party or event supplies. When I got married, I bought a bunch of vases, decorations, etc. from here. They have great supplies for theme parties too. If you are thinking of having a party and are not sure what you want to do, just enter this store and be blown away! They literally have everything for every occasion. I just went there (it's August) and they already have Halloween and Christmas items popping up! They have a huge scrap booking area as well for all you scrappers! The parking lot is huge and I never have trouble finding parking. The reason I made it four starts instead of five was that I found some of the exact same vases and supplies at other stores (walmart, ben franklin) for a little bit cheaper. read more

Let me preface this review with the statement, "I am not a crafter". I don't like "crafts" but I often have the need of a store like Flora Dec because I throw a lot of parties and like to create unique decorations, costumes, etc. But I don't scrapbook or create flower arrangements or gift baskets or knit or sew or whatever else entertains little old ladies all day. ;-) Usually I go to Ben Franklin or Wal-Mart for this kind of thing (I don't want to use the word "craft"), but I hit up Flora Dec about once a year, at least to check out their Halloween inventory. I always have a hard time finding what I need here. The staff is usually "okay", not the friendliest. It's never very clean, especially in the outside section where they house the Halloween stuff. I dunno, I'll go here if I'm looking for something specific that I can't find elsewhere, but it's generally my last choice even though it's convenient (on my way home, with plenty of parking). read more

Most likely if you can't find it at any other craft store, you're sure to find it here. While the other reviews are pretty accurate about their lack of customer service, I've always been fortunate to have gone in, I guess when their worker, Alden, is there, who always exudes customer service. He's helped me on several occasions and all those times, he's been the one to offer his assistance and we didn't have to hunt him down for help. Christmas time is the best there. We always look here for the most unique decorations to make our Christmas stand out from everyone else's. It is a bit more expensive than most stores, but if you're looking for those stand out decorations, you gotta pay the price;) Recently went in here to get some clear tubes for centerpieces that I tried to find at another craft store, since the original place I got them from had run out. When I asked three different people at the other craft store, they made me fee like I was asking whether they sold aliens, but as soon as I asked someone at Flora Dec, they led me straight to it. Crafts! people, they have all sorts of supplies. I can't tell you how many times I refer Floradec for general craft and party supplies and people are surprised to hear "it's NOT just flowers?!" Seriously, they should consider changing their name to FloraDec CRAFT & PARTY Sales I love this store! They most always have what I'm looking for. I saw always because there have been 2 things I have not been able to find in my many visits.... first was yarn. Okay, so it's not a yarn/fabric shop. gotcha. Second was paper treat bags. They have every other kind of treat container and I opted for the cellophane party treat bags instead. it's all good. Sure, first things first... when you walk in they have faux flowers and their necessary tools decor items. Move on to scrapbooking, ribbons, more ribbons, more scrapbooking, wood crafts, kids crafts, poster board, feathers, felt, beading, tulle/mesh, bakery packaging, party supplies, rainbows of plates/cups/napkins/table cloth, party servingware, party decor... and I'm sure I've missed a few things. Seriously, they have a TON of stuff. I haven't even gotten to the warehouse area yet, that houses more of the outdoor decor, potting, styrofoam, and holiday items. They do balloons too! I'm actually really glad I stopped by after work to get a costume; I used to think ben franklin was the only place to get craft-y things after craft supply on king street closed. They also have party supplies, seasonal Halloween costumes, and wedding/baby shower supplies. I forgot what day of the week they offer a senior citizen discount, but when I went with my dad, the cashier let us know about the discount and gave it to me even though I was the one buying the stuff. If you have your own business, you can also sign up and qualify for their wholesale discount. The discount differs for each item, so you might get 5% off one thing and 20% off another. If you return anything bought with the wholesale discount, a small restocking fee applies. I like this place a lot! read more

I enjoy doing crafts...a lot! I love that this place is close to home. Other times I drive out further to get supplies. Flora-Dec is a little cheaper than Ben Franklin, depending on what you're looking for. I love their Christmas selection, because they fill out that back area. They actually have a lot more than Ben Franklin, I'd say. What I don't like is their hours, because I usually don't make it if I only have time later in the afternoon to do a supply run. When I walked in, the first word I said was "WOW!!!" The place is what mainland craft stores are like, not the crappy, Hawaiian sad excuse for a craft store most places around the island are. Flora Dec has a large selection of items for crafts and supplies. I was hoping that they had a better selection of storage organization bins and drawers. Depending on what you are looking for certain items are pricey but other items are at a great price. If you shop around you know what items are too pricey. The older ladies there are nice but the younger girls there don't seem to be too friendly. Just there to talk story amount themselves. The store is neat and clean. Make sure for certain items you know that is what you need. All sales final. read more

Love going to this place. Its like heaven for those into silk flowers, vases, and crafting. Sometimes the workers there can be a little rude and exacerbated. But today's visit left me very happy and satisfied. I was looking for some silk flowers to make a simple hair piece for my daughters valentines ball. Went to many others stores and could not find the "right ones". Finally made it here. After walking around and looking at everything twice, I was going to settle for something that I was not completely satisfied with. Then I saw a display that had the perfect pink roses. Only to find out that it was not in stock. However, the worker who made the tiny display went out of his way to accommodate me by offering me to purchase the flowers in the display. I happily agreed! Came here to buy some craft supplies for Christmas gifts, and I must ask "Where is the service?!" I walked up and down every single aisle, and about three or four workers passed me and not one asked if I needed help, or even greeted me for that matter. I got what I needed, and walked out. Though they do carry a lot of seasonal decorations, and crafting needs, the lack of customer service did not make my shopping experience enjoyable. I wouldn't necessarily call myself a full blown crafter. I'd say definitely I have my projects here and there but I do not have a craft room in my house. Of course as a crafter, Flora-Dec is on my radar as a great supply store. It's pretty massive and has mostly everything you are looking for. It's arguably the best place to go during Christmas and Halloween (the costume section is unreal). They have a great plastic baggie section too full of every size imaginable (another project I did last year). However, it's usually one of the last places I go to. For some odd reason, I thought it was pricier than other joints. Today I was proven horribly wrong. Earlier in the week I bought 100 yards of 1/4 inch satin ribbon from an unnamed store (on sale) for $6.76 and today I found the same item (on sale) at Flora-Dec for $3.69. I actually ran into someone I knew in the ribbon section (story of my life) and she had just come from a whole bunch of other craft stores and came to the same conclusion as I did. We were both WRONG ALL ALONG. Flora-Dec prices are better than other stores. She ended up just buying ribbon to have just in case because the prices were so amazing. Anyway, lesson learned. Absolutely terrible service. Came here to pick up and return some stuff for work. I got chewed out by the manager for trying to return pots and the count on the receipt were not the same. I got told to get my act together by the manager. She was extremely rude. Then I tried to buy some pots there. The cashier couldn't figure out how to ring up the pots and when I needed extra it took forever. Actually I was able to write this help review before I could ring up pots. This is so stupid. Our family is very creative and we decided to do our own decorations for our wedding ceremony. Flora Dec was our primary store for decorations and Watanabe florist provided the flowers. Kamuela (Sam) is the shining star, although we could have gone to other stores to get what we needed he walked with us and made suggestions and pointed out the available supplies. We got our pew holders, flower bowls, lights, silk flowers, ribbons and other floral supplies from this store. The people attending the wedding was amazed at the decorations and floral arrangements and done by my family, none of it was bought ready made. Yes I have a creative and helpful family however Kamuela took us to another level with his suggestions and ideas. We also did not use all the supplies. As long as you have the receipt, return it in salable condition within 14 days it is easy to return. In addition to Kamuela, the whole staff was friendly and helpful. read more

l have to admit I assumed that Flora-Dec had only floral supplies. Wrong, they have a large assortment of craft items. Pricing is only ok but the store is very large and the selection of non-floral items is comparable to Ben Franklin's. Just went in today. Old man working today was rude as hell. We were unaware of store hours & thought they closed @ 6 p.m. we walked into an area where there's Christmas decorations & the old man said, "We're closed." W/out even making eye contact or he could even been more polite & said, "I'm so sorry but we are closing soon." I was so disgusted by his rude personality. (11/14/2012) The "customer service sucks" have it! Walked around for a good 40 minutes - up and down every aisle - purposely passing within earshot of the elusive, green-shirted, camouflaged employees and asking "I wonder where/if" questions...not even a flinch! There is a LOT of all kinds of stuff, but sadly, nothing I was looking for. Compared prices on a few items I also saw a Pricebusters - most were at least twice as expensive here...some even more. So, in conclusion - elusive employees, poor customer service, high prices, a whole lot of nothing (at least for me). I won't be back. read more
