This was a great, unsuspecting find!…read more I was in the area and had stopped by a store and on my way out she told me i had to stop by the car forest. To be honest, i really didn't want to. But something told me to just go even if was for a minute. And now being honest again, I wish i would have stayed longer. This is such a cool place where these cars are somehow upright and painted on. I'm told you can paint whatever you want on them if you have the supplies. The area seemed really sprawling so i don't believe i finished it all but it's a great place to stop and take pictures. It is super unique. The downside , unless i missed it is i have no clue the history of how or why the cars are there or their significance to that area in particular, but it's cool nonetheless. I love a roadside attraction/ stop and this one is definitely worth stopping by.

Mood - history of course…read more In 2015 The Tonopah & Tidewater Railroad Historical Society was formed. The society was formed with the purpose of preserving the history of the railroad. The model railroad was built to scale of the layout between Ludlow, California and Death Valley Junction. The museum was transported from the Armagosa Opera House and Hotel where it was originally housed. Currently the model railroad is not in operation but it is getting there. As you look at each piece that has been carefully placed know that this is completely to scale. There is even a depiction of a small cemetery. Would def recommend for history purposes as it is still a work in progress. Pricing is free, donations are accepted. Location is Crook/ Main St - Goldfield,NV ample parking

I will be honest, this wasn't a museum for me. I enjoy history, especially local history but this felt a little boring to. The museum is a decent size; hosting exhibits indoors and outdoors (be careful as the sign reads going outside, sometimes it sticks and you're locked outside) The museum hosts local books, artifacts and tons of mining artifacts that were interesting for a quick glance. Overall, the museum was a nice quick stop. The staff was super friendly. I enjoyed the idea of signing in and keeping my name in the books as a part of their history.

Let's go on exhibition!…read more Let's always see the visitors center! See the history of the area with a movie before you start the tour of the area. Come and learn. We are learning about minerals and get to see examples too. The minerals are from Nevada and all other parts of the United States . To be a miner what a life? They have what the miners used to wear to stay alive. All the artifacts the people of the area used. So interesting. This is living history. You can see the mines and all the examples of what mining looked like . Wow! Thank you for this opportunity and all the preserved resources and knowledge they have kept alive here.

A Wonderful Step Back in Time at Laws Railroad Museum…read more We absolutely loved our visit to the Laws Railroad Museum & Historic Site in Bishop, California! From the moment we arrived, everyone was incredibly welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. There was so much to see and explore that we could have spent hours there. The museum is like stepping into an entire little town from another era. There's an old schoolhouse, a library, historic buildings, station agent family home, doctor's office, firehouse and fascinating pieces of everyday life -- including old Maytag appliances. Every building seemed to have something interesting to discover. One of the highlights was riding the Brill train, which was such a fun experience and especially exciting for our 9 year old son, who absolutely loves trains. Another memorable part of our visit was meeting Makenzie, who was working on and cleaning the historic No. 9 4-6-0 Baldwin steam locomotive. Makenzie took the time to talk with us and shared some fascinating information about the train and its history. That personal interaction really made our visit special. It's really wonderful to meet a community of train enthusiasts. You can tell how much care, dedication, and passion goes into preserving this incredible piece of California history. It's truly a hidden gem and a wonderful place for families, history lovers, and, of course, train spotters! We highly recommend Laws Railroad Museum and can't wait to visit again!

We visited on a Saturday with our nine year old son and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The Brill car…read morebuilt in 1927 was a great ride and the docents explain history of the train and area. The little town has movie set quality buildings full of antiques of how people lived from the 1883 building of the trains station through the 1960's when the train stopped coming through. Not to mention antique cars and wagons. Be sure to check out their 4-6-0 Baldwin steam locomotive in restoration. We learned Morris Code and sent messages on the Telegraph. You'll be pleasantly surprised and although we spent two and a half hours there, we could have stayed longer.

It doesn't look like it is ever open but may have just been the case on this hot Thursday afternoon in June. The sculptures are scattered about the area. I kept an eye out for snakes while walking around. My favorite was the pink Lego looking like anatomically correct blond woman. Several pieces looked like a paper mache applied over a seated person. Another favorite were attached standing rectangles set at angles. There wasn't enough here for me. If you are planning to visit the nearby ghost town and glass bottle house then a quick stop here might be warranted.

I was here 20 years ago, but my wife was not interested in the Goldwell Museum except to drive by…read more I went with a friend recently and we took the time to get information of the art pieces and to walk around, get photos, and enjoy the quirky talent of the place. We went into the gift shop/museum and the gentleman was a source of good information on Goldwell. The open air museum is on the left hand side of the paved road going to the ruins of the once thriving mining town of Rhyolite. Although not on Yelp, we made a stop at the nearby historic Bullfrog and Rhyolite Cemetery. I especially wanted to see the grave of Panamint Annie. The cemetery, Rhyolite, and this wonderful open art museum made for a great trip north of Las Vegas near Beatty, Nevada.

The exhibit really goes into detail both in the examples and the text. The person working there when we visited was very helpful in explaining everything as well. Be sure to check out the board which tells about many of the events happening around the cultural center. I'm definitely looking forward to going back, especially if there's going to be an event!

This was only my second visit to the town of Beatty, Nevada and we decided to stop in here for a…read morevisit. The museum offers so much history about this little town along with the surrounding area including the now ghost town Rhyolite. I was fascinated by all the items they feature which most are still in great condition. Beatty is located in Nye County and was originally populated by the Western Shoshone and Paiute Indians before it became a town. It was known as a mining area and it is now known as "The Gateway to Death Valley. " Most of the items featured at the museum provide you a view of how people lived here in the early 1900's. A great little stopover and the museum provides free admission but a donation is always welcome!
