    Ashley and the Polaris
    Candice L.

I booked the Polaris guided tour. Ashley was my guide and she is very knowledgeable and familiar with the Tonopah lore. Do yourself a huge favor and book the Polaris tour on cold days you will not be disappointed. The tour lasted 2 hours and went by really fast. My children really enjoyed hearing about the miners, the town, and life in the camps when silver was found. Bring the kids and anyone who loves history, geology, mineralogy, and Tonopah Lore.

Veteran Friendly, lots of artifacts, self guided tour, host at the time Mike Bucca was great and knowledgeable. Authentic atmosphere giving a nice setting on how mining started with pick and shovel ending with big machinery and big holes in the ground. Well worth a second visit and recommend to all visitors to Tonopah.

We visited Tonopah at the beginning of last week for a few days. We love exploring Nevada's ghost towns. There is so many around the Tonopah area, along with a lot of history. One of the places on the list to visit was the Tonopah Historic Mining Park. The signed up for a guided tour, because we were pressed for time and the price was very reasonable, but afterwards we were glad we did for lots of other reasons. We started out at the visited center and watched a movie about how the area's history. It was pretty good. Then it was time for the tour. Our guide, Grace, was awesome. It was windy so she took us around in the closed sided Polaris. She was extremely knowledgeable and was enthusiastic about it which makes for a much more enjoyable experience. We drove around to the various spots and she would stop between them if we wanted to take a picture. We were able to see the head frames and see straight down the shafts below them. If you have a fear of heights, don't look down. We saw the vault where the gold and silver was stored; the reason everything surrounding it, exists. We recommend the park to anyone interested in history, mining, machinery. It's great for kids and adults. If you're in the area, visit the park.

This was a perfect stop to get out and stretch our legs while on our way to Las Vegas! The visitors center and 20 minute movie is free. To take the tour of the grounds, it costs $5 per person. Very cheap for all the great history and artifacts you're able to get up close and personal with. They also offer guided Polaris tours for a fee, if you don't feel like walking the grounds. I'd recommend walking around the visitors center exhibits, and watching the movie before walking the grounds. The movie provides a lot of great background history on the area and the Butler's, who first found the silver here in 1900. Toponah's moniker is "Queen of the Silver Camps". They're open 7 days a week, from 8-4. They offer exhibits and a gift shop in the visitors center. They have a gravel parking lot for visitors, and it can get muddy. Highly recommend if in the area!

This place was awesome and to top it all off the folks that worked there were even more awesome! It was hot but there is so much history.

What a cool place. We've stayed at the Mizpah years ago and it was never open. It's a welcome sight to see those front gates open on this mining park. From the employee at the gift shop to all there is to see...5 stars. My 3yo loved it, especially the neat rocks they sell in the gift shop you can toss into a cloth bag. The woman at the gift shop suggested I take him on the path to the "tunnel"....he had a blast pretending it was collapsing and running the length of it with my flashlight. Great place to spend a few hours and it is cheap to do.

At front gate, view from Mizpah Hotel parking lot.

Just so much history, love Tonopah, our guide Brittani was terrific. Very friendly. My second time in a month as wanted to bring my daughter and my mom. They both enjoyed immensely. If you stop here get the guided tour on the Polaris. 3 people, your guide to yourself, $9 a person and a out 90 minutes.

A lot of walking here! You'll see "Tonopah Mining Park" etched into the rock hill. The main building hosts a museum (pictures, signs, tools, glass bottle collection) and gift shop (books, maps, mugs, pens, bumper stickers, postcards, and other souvenirs). You pay for admission at the front desk (Adults $5, Kids $3, Kids 6 & Under and Veterans Free) and given a guide map and watch a short video. After the watching the video, take a walk outside to various mining exhibits, buildings, and displays overlooking Tonopah. Because of the high elevation (over 6,000 feet), it can be easy to get tired from walking around the rolling terrain. I took a needed lunch break at the nearby McDonald's and resumed my walking tour later. Overall, my visit here was very interesting.

This motel has been featured on paranormal shows and in books as being "haunted". It has that creepy "Devils Rejects" or "The Hills Have Eyes" vibes since you are in a remote area and feels like a group of sketchy locals might be waiting for darkness to strike. When we first arrived there was construction going on in the parking lot that went on until 10pm. That was really annoying. I originally booked room #107 which is one of the most paranormal rooms and basically one of the only reasons I booked months in advance to get it. When I arrived the gentleman at the desk said he was sorry but there was an issue with room #107 and it could not be rented to me. I said told him that was disappointing since I booked this months out. I asked what was wrong with the room. He said there was a leak and could not be rented out. I opted for the 2nd most paranormal room which was #108 (The IT room). The manager gave us a few keys and said check a few rooms out since they were all empty but a couple. I was there for the paranormal accounts so stuck with #108. We took a self tour of the tiny museum. I did enjoy that and bought some merch. The museum had the vibes I was looking for. Creepy and kind clown dolls that have been donated over time. The museum is free and you can make a donation if you wish. I would recommend stopping by the museum. Once we got into the room we noticed cockroach traps in the corners and In the closet. Clearly there was is roach problem at this motel. The room just made me feel itchy and gross. I got no spooky vibes at all, no EMF activity in the room. I pulled out my blacklight and there were gross stains all over the wall, bed, and the toilet was unbearable. Me and my bro decided to sit in the parking lot at 9pm and walk the cemetery in the dark when nobody was there. As we walked outside to tour the cemetery we noticed the room light was on in room #107 and the curtain was cracked. We could see two people on the bed. I was pissed because the manager lied to me and said the room could not be rented out due to a leak, yet two people had checked into it. They probably offered to pay him more and he gave it to them. I did enjoy walking the cemetery and reading about each occupant. We paid our respects and went back to the room. After seeing how disgusting the room was we decided to check out at 10pm. We told the manager the room was too gross and could not stay the night especially with signs of a bug infestation. The manager said he knows the rooms aren't nice and he is sorry. They will not refund you if you choose to leave. They will only refund you if there is a mechanical issue or plumbing issue. I also think that is not good business. We packed our things back in the car and left for another hotel 5 minutes away. It was called the Belvada and was awesome. Also has a haunted past. 1906 Victorian style hotel. I would NOT recommend staying at the Clown Motel. It is worth seeing to go to the museum and cemetery but that's it. Avoid the rooms. I don't believe the rooms are haunted and it's a gimmick to get people to stay in these rundown rooms. I think the reviews where people say they could not stay the night wasn't because of ghosts but because of cockroaches. They need to spend less money on the outside decor and put more money into renovating the rooms. I was very disappointed and hands down worst motel I've ever stayed in!

It's been interesting to read reviews of others who have given the place much higher marks. However, there is a realization here that everyone has a different level of standards. Overall, we want a place that's clean and put together. We did not feel that was the case here. In other words, I could probably say it was about the worst hotel room I ever paid for. To begin with tissues from the previous guest were still behind the bed table. We left them there. The mattress spring covers weren't just dirty. It was stained and filthy. It was obvious with the condition of the way the bed was made and cords that there was no proper training on anything. There was a refrigerator in the room that when opened the ice had such a build up of ice you knew it had never been checked or cleaned. Moving down to the restaurant ..... the ketchup when turned upside down "clumped" to opening and didn't slide like fresh ketchup. The bottles of other toppings appeared to have also been there a mighty long time without being freshened up. Okay .. what did we order? We ordered two hot fudge sundaes. The hot fudge was lukewarm and clumped... After all, what did we expect? The following morning when we stopped by "Registraiton" to drop the keys off, the clerk was sound asleep in his chair. Evidently, he'd been there a bit as other keys were laying on the counter that had also been cropped off. He did look at me and grunt and then went back to sleep.
