After interviewing nine contractors, Vince stood out immediately. His background as a framer and union superintendent gave me the confidence that he could manage the complexity of the job and handle any surprises -- and he absolutely delivered. The scope of work was extensive. Vince and his team installed 1,100 square feet of mixed engineered hardwood and tile flooring. They replaced all the baseboards, door trim, and doors with new, shaker-style finishes and updated all doorknobs. Electrical upgrades included installing new can lights and retrofitting existing ones, along with new light switches and outlets. A new French door was added to the exterior for improved aesthetics and energy efficiency. One of the standout custom features was a flush-mount range hood, which required Vince to reconfigure the ceiling joists -- a task most general contractors would have outsourced or avoided. His framing background allowed him to tackle it confidently and correctly. The two bathrooms were fully remodeled. In one, we reconfigured the walk-in shower. In the other, he installed a soaker tub and, impressively, added a hidden pop-out access door in case of leaks -- it's so seamless you'd never know it was there. That kind of forward-thinking and attention to detail was consistent throughout the project. Vince also identified mold and rot in the subflooring -- something no other contractor caught -- and made all necessary repairs. His partner Hugo did outstanding work on the bathrooms, and every subcontractor Vince brought in was professional, reliable, and well-managed. They didn't just focus on the visible upgrades -- they addressed everything behind the walls and under the floors to ensure the home was sound. The entire interior was painted as part of the job, pulling everything together with a clean, modern finish. Vince showed up early, stayed late, and treated this house like it was his own. He communicated clearly, solved problems quickly, and didn't nickel and dime us when surprises came up. His craftsmanship, honesty, and work ethic are rare in this industry. We hired Reyes, Amber, and their crew to help us replace our backyard door. We wanted a large…read moreopening (18 ft and floor to ceiling) so basically a whole wall in the house had to be prepped for the door installation. The project had a lot of moving parts. We needed an engineer to calculate the loads, permits, steel beam fabrication (to replace our thicker wood beams), framing, door installation, drywall work, electrician to move outlets and switches, painting, taper, stucco work on the outside. Reyes and Amber managed the whole project. They kept us posted, explained every step, communicated very effectively, and dealt with the surprises that are inevitable on projects of this size really well. I would recommend Shark City builders to anyone. They bring "union quality" to everything they do and for a more than fair price.

Working with Don Williams has been the worst customer experience of my life! Not only has he billed…read moreus for an incomplete project, but left us with shoddy workmanship for others to repair. He has anger management issues, and not only made threatening statements, but tried to bully us into paying for work that he refused to finish, and to top it off, he insulted me in almost every email communication. As you can see in the photos, the tile work hasn't been finished. Nor has the drywall, electrical, plumbing, toilet, or paint... and yet, he sent invoices for all of that! He placed a lien on our home, tried to sue us in civil court (even though it violated the contract), and all this required us to hire a lawyer to protect ourselves. He also billed us under two different license numbers with the CSLB. Almost 8 months later, thousands spent on legal advice, and the CSLB investigation in process, we still don't have resolution (or a working toilet...) The tile installation is sloppy - see for yourself. The shower pan doesn't drain (water pools in the middle). We failed our first city inspection, as they cut into our outside (structural) wall beams. They had to remove and try again with our tub framing, closet door framing, and "forgot" to put the floor insulation back in after removing it - and billed us for the materials twice! Months later, the grout is cracking in the corners, recessed ceiling lights are falling down, and who knows what else... They damaged our custom made walnut vanity. This project went on for 13 weeks (well beyond the contract deadline) before Don refused to come back, and sent us all of the invoices. My guess is that he ran out of time, and needed to move onto the next jobsite (speculation). Whatever you do, DON'T hire this guy. He doesn't check the team's work (he has three team led by: Miguel, Jaime, and Felipe). Don only came by about once per week, and didn't address our concerns during his visits. I didn't encounter any red flags when I first met him, nor when I checked references, but I would never, ever, ever recommend that anyone hire him! RUN AWAY! As in other review responses, Don will claim that we were too picky, or difficult to work with. Let the photos speak for themselves, and know that we've never encountered such a terrible business relationship after being homeowners for 12 years. We learned a lot of tough lessons throughout this ordeal, if anyone wishes to private message me, I can share more details.

I have to say they did an amazing job on all items. For the kitchen remodel, they did everything great - cabinet install, appliance install, countertop / backsplash. Don also has relationships with suppliers and suggested places which helped me find exactly what I was looking for in terms of granite slabs and backsplashes (at Bedrosians). He also has a relationship with MSS (Marble Stone and Solutions) who did a great job with our countertops. They are also great with providing suggestions and answering questions. See the pictures - they speak for themselves. For the crown mouldings and baseboard they use techniques and take the time to make it look really nice and professional. The hardwood floors were installed so they flow nicely throughout the house, while following all the rules to properly install hardwood - it looks great! One thing I should mention about the team is that they pay close attention to detail, striving to keep everything centered, straight and perfect. They also did a great job with the kitchen lighting - putting spot lights right where it makes sense, and putting LED ribbons under the cabinets. It also turns out that they are quite efficient with materials - I ended up returning 10% of the hardwood because they didn't need it. I look forward to working with him on our next project(s), as we're not quite done renovating our house.

We just completed an addition…read moreto our house in San Jose, which added around 300 sq ft, included a new bathroom and had to tie into the existing structure of our house. We met with several general contractors and got several bids for the project and ended up choosing Ivan. There is a number of examples of why I would recommend Ivan if you are doing a larger project: 1. He is reasonable about budget, he gave us a very reasonable bid and tried his best to stick to that bid as much as possible. Almost all overages in the bid were of my choosing to use different materials or changes to the design throughout it. Ivan always let me know how much more something was going to be and was always reasonable if I asked for more bids from subcontractors to try to get a better price. He is never willing to sacrifice quality for the price, but will actively work on your behalf to get quotes down to where they should be and deny out subcontractors based on price. We would not have been able to complete the project in the price range many people gave us. An example were, one of his framers came in at a higher price than what he bid us, Ivan worked hard to find a different framer that he felt would do the job correctly and he could trust but was back closer to the big price. 2. He is extremely knowledgable about all parts of construction. He is easily able to answer ideas, come up with creative suggestions. His companies name is not a joke, he is EXTREMELY precise. So much that he worries about quality and things being perfect to a point that he would tell me he is changing something or having someone redo something because it wasn't up to his standards when I didn't even notice there was a problem when I saw it. He is able to work with his subcontractors and correct a situation when something is not done right. He holds them accountable and himself accountable for any problems and gets them fixed. Another example of his precision is this was a large permitted project where we added square footage, it was inspected multiple times throughout the project, not a single inspection didn't pass and even the inspectors commented on the quality of his work. In fact I have had multiple see what he has don't and comment on the quality of his work. He is also extremely clean and worked around our schedule which is nice since we had to camp in the living room while our master bedroom was being redone. 3. He is straightforward and an all around nice person to work with and deal with. He is friendly and considerate, this is a great quality to have when you are working with someone over months. 4. He took into consideration our needs out of the project. We wanted things like soundproofing, he made it happen, we wanted certain features of the bathroom, he made it happen. We wanted a modern look, he made it happen. He did everything is a extremely fast paced timeline and I never felt like we were behind schedule, it always felt as if the project was moving along well. In the end the project turned out much better than we had actually imagined and we still marvel at how great it is. When you are spending a good deal of money you fear that if might not be worth it, so it is refreshing to look at it at the end and be overly happy with how it turned out and not worry at all if you made the right decision. I don't know if we would be in the same situation without coming across Ivan, and I can't recommend him highly enough. I have worked with several general contractors before in the past and I have not had as good of an experience as with Ivan, there is so many more remodeling projects I would like to bring him back for when I have the money to do so. My husband and I had an idea of the general vibe we wanted for our kitchen/living room but Ivan made it happen better than we could have imagined! He helped guide us with products and realistic choices, all while keeping in mind the style we wanted for our home. He communicated with us daily, made sure we were completely aware of what was going on with the project and where are budget was with our remodel. He would communicate where we could save money and where we could splurge. He let us know where we would really see the difference and where it wouldn't matter as much. He kept to the timeline he gave us - he worked miracles to get the job done on time and get us out of our guest bedroom (make shift kitchen during the remodel) - he was a life saver!
