I replace two 12 foot patio sliders with this company. One on the first floor and one on the second floor. The doors/windows are from Anlin windows from Clovis, CA. I really liked the options with this window company. My dog is loving his new built in dog door. They have a double lifetime warranty. There were a couple issues I noticed later and Anlin came right out to fix it. No issues at all. Like everyone else in this industry Airtight can get pretty busy but are worth it. I had a bit of trouble getting a hold of them at first. When I finally decided to fill out the yelp quote they responded promptly. I like it is a family business and they are very professional. Cleaned up after the project well. They were very respectful of not hitting things my narrow hallways. When I had a couple issues with the product they sent out the service request right away. I can't use enough superlatives to describe our experience with Airtight from the staff to the finished result. We live in the Santa Cruz mountains and find ourselves surrounded by homeowners who find in acceptable to leave their dogs out barking all night. Suffice to say with an older house the insulation leaves a lot to be desired and add an early wake up from idiots with a Rooster and you have a situation that needs attention. Actually our pick list of irritating things to solve with insulation would be the following ; Roosters Barking dogs Noisy old cars Woodpeckers on the walls Bats getting into the eves Bodged siding repairs by previous owners Temperature difference between inside and outside scarily close Me putting too many wires around the house for home theatre Shakes getting knocked off by woodpeckers Window treatments getting rotten Severe weather swings causes paint to break down super quick Generally old and dated look from cheap vertical siding making potential resale limited Whilst researching retrofit foam insulation, I came across recycled low impact Vinyl siding which is pre insulated and seems to be the norm on the east coast but not so much on the west. I lobbed a call into our local installer being Airtight, of which they returned my message immediately and booked an inspection. As a point of reference I also called three foam installer and none bothered responding. After a short visit and a proposal, we agreed, signed their paperwork and they ordered the materials. What was a total bonus was that the new siding goes straight on-top of our existing cladding and is pre-colored so it never needs painting. They started the job when they said, they were a little slower than they promised but and I mean a big but, they worked on the house as if it were their own. They really took their time, had great attention to detail, there was no drama, no fuss, no breakages and they cleaned up nicely after every evening. We now have a house that looks modernized and is scarily so quiet inside that I sometimes wonder if there has been an apocalypse and we are the last remaining people on earth. O.K perhaps a little far fetched but I highly recommend the product and this team, fantastic experience baring in mind they were with us for nearly four weeks which is more than enough to hate a contractor :-) Thanks James, you did your company proud ! Oh and he really looks after his crew well, he bought them drinks and food to the site, he forced them to take breaks and even made them put on sunscreen. We invited 2 Simonton and 2 Anlin contractors to come to the house to measure and give a quote, and got an estimate via phone and email from a Simonton installer and an Anlin installer. When in life are you lucky enough to run into a well-respected installer with almost 30 years' experience, who is meticulous with details, has the shortest lead time (4 weeks vs 10-14 weeks), whose crew are all employees not sub-contractors, and whose main goal is to give you the best job at the lowest reasonable price? Rather than suggest options we didn't want or need, James suggested a cost-effective alternative that was fair to both parties and met our goals. Add to that James is an Anlin dealer and quoted a price 25% lower than other Anlin dealers and at a lower price than all but one Simonton installer. FLEXIBLE - ACCOMMODATED REASONABLE REQUESTS James was also very flexible and accommodated our special request regarding the interior trim at a very reasonable price to cover additional labor. Add to that...we signed the contract the day before a federal bill was signed which offered a tax credit for windows and doors with a U-factor less than .30 and SHGC less than .30. We quickly asked if James could modify the spec on our sliding doors so we could take advantage of the tax credit. It was early enough in the ordering process that James called the Anlin factory immediately and within 15 minutes changed the order for all 6 doors AT NO EXTRA CHARGE so they would be eligible for the tax credit. Who does that? PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION How do you spell Airtight? M-E-T-I-C-U-L-O-U-S. None of the openings for the doors or windows were 90-degrees. So, James took whatever time was required to fit the doors perfectly. One of the wooden door sills was crumbling, so he handily installed a new one at a very reasonable cost (fair, since it took extra labor and materials). He had all the extra equipment, trim, wood, etc with him so the project could keep moving forward as planned without pause. Both the inside wood floors and the outside landscaping were treated with equal care. James' crew laid tarps everywhere, swept and vacuumed throughout the day and left everything cleaner than when they started. We had concerns for a prized maple tree, which was very close to the sliding door and offered very little clearance to install a sliding door behind it. James and his team took great care to install the door perfectly, with absolutely no harm to the tree. The entire crew were happy and respectful of each other. They worked so well as a team. What a difference it makes when the crew get along. It infuses the work site with an air of calm despite the necessary noise and demolition. One day James was offsite. He called at the end of the day to ask how we thought things went. Who does that? Of course, they had gone very well. James never allows things to go off the rails because he checks in at regular intervals. James was great at communicating throughout the process. Two of the screen doors did not slide as smoothly as they should, so James ordered factory service to repair the faulty wheels. The slight flaw might have gone unnoticed by another installer. Not James. He demands the highest level of performance from a reputable manufacturer. CRITERIA FOR MATERIALS We considered two brands of vinyl sliding doors that have good reputations: Simonton and Anlin. Of the two, Anlin is the better constructed and better quality door. Objective contractors say they would pay an additional 30% for Anlin over Simonton. The vinyl is thicker, has more chambers for support, the standard spacer conveys better insulation, the rollers are 4 wheels vs 2 wheels for ease of operation, and so forth. The Anlin warranty includes materials AND LABOR for the length of time you own your house, AND for the people who buy your house. Simonton has a decent warranty but it covers materials only. POST-INSTALLATION It's now been a few days since the doors have been installed. The doors and windows look great. We already feel the house is at a more constant and comfortable temperature. Quieter too since our heating system isn't constantly clicking on and off. We can't hear the constantly barking dog across the street anymore. HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION We highly recommend James and Airtight without reservation. He is among the top 3 contractors who have ever worked on our house over 40 years. Look no further, James and his team are what you've been hoping for. I called many window company's to get a quote, and only 3 of the dozen or so that I called bothered to call me back. What set Airtight a part from the rest was that they were upfront on the time frame it would take to get an estimate (because they were quite busy), ordering time frame, and scheduling the actual install. My gut told me that this was the right company to go with because James the owner seemed to care about every step of the process and was detailed in his findings during the estimate to begin with. I was right, once installation day came he made sure everything was done to our satisfaction, and they left everything around their work areas clean afterwards. Five Stars isn't an accurate reflection, IMHO. I would say The Milky Way, perhaps?! My niece and I recently decided to undertake a rather major project at our home in Santa Cruz: Install Thermal Paned Windows though out the house, add a sliding French Door to the Dining Room, and install a window on the southern wall of the house to let in more light during the dreary winter. James came out right away and did an estimate/bid. Compared to the other guys, there was no comparison, so we gave him the job. James and his crew are top notch. I was expecting a week of sheer chaos and destruction, and was I ever in for a surprise! They were prompt, courteous, efficient, and CLEAN! Every day (and the project lasted a week), they cleaned up to the point that I hardly knew they were there at the end of the day. They worked well together, and accomplished so much that I thought was going to take forever to complete. The results were STUNNING! It ALL took my breath away! There was carpentry and dry walling involved which I know personally is so hard to get right. But, James and his guys finished out the project and I felt as though I was staying at some very fancy house ~ then I realized that it was OUR house! We were going to get to live with this FINE CRAFTSMANSHIP, thanks to James and his crew! This is a consummately professional outfit. When I needed a contractor to install a copper ceiling in our Enoteca in Los Gatos (Enoteca La Storia) I called James the owner. It was a once in a lifetime installation. The 24"X 24" solid copper panels were pressed on a machine from the period using an original 1930's art deco stamp. Each panel was hand nailed by Jim himself wearing white cotton gloves so he didn't leave behind finger prints. It's a rare masterpiece. We just had our windows done and we could not be more pleased with the results! From the time we contacted James to start the process (site evaluation) to the time of installation was about a month, less time than we were expecting. Installation itself only took two days for our 3 bedroom, two bath house, including a new sliding patio door. The crew left the house clean each day, and the cost of replacement included hauling away the old windows, so there was no debris left over for us to take care of. We had been dragging our feet for a long time on this project because we didn't really know where to start, but once James was recommended to us the whole thing was so simple. The only (minor) hiccup was that during installation one of the window panes cracked, so they had to reorder it and will have to come back to install it once it's ready (they said it will take about 15 minutes). I appreciated that they were completely honest about it, aren't charging us anything additional to fix it, and even offered to let us hold back a portion of the final payment until it's been repaired. I can't say enough great things about James and his crew at Airtight Vinyl. I contacted James over a year ago to come out and give a quote for replacing the windows in our condo. He was super accommodating to come quote us in the evening due to our crazy work schedules. We were getting a few quotes and James's pricing was by far the best. What I appreciated even more was the fact he didn't pressure us. As it turns out, windows weren't in our budget that year and we had to pass on getting new ones. My parents were also in the market for new windows at the time. We sent James over to quote their house and he ended up doing their window install a few weeks after our original quote. My parents also found his pricing to be cost saving compared to the other company they were originally going to go with. When James did the install at my parents he kindly offer to replaced the window in my 1.5 year old daughters room at no cost to us for the referral. Super sweet and generous of him.
