I love a classic roadside attraction, and what could be better than a giant orange in the heart of Central Florida? Eli's Orange World in Kissimmee is impossible to miss. Rising along U.S. Highway 192, the enormous fiberglass orange is one of those quirky roadside landmarks that makes you want to stop and take a picture. The story of Orange World dates back to 1971, when Eli Sfassie moved from Indiana to Florida and opened a Texaco gas station near the newly opened Walt Disney World. To take advantage of the growing number of tourists traveling through the area, he began selling souvenirs from the station's service bay. In 1988, Sfassie transformed the building into a giant orange at a cost of about $6,000. The resulting structure stands approximately 60 feet tall and has been promoted as the World's Largest Orange. In 2004, strong winds from hurricane Charley reportedly tore a giant decorative crystal ball from the nearby Giant Wizard gift shop. The enormous ball crashed onto the roof of Orange World, leaving a dent in the structure. According to local lore, the crystal ball was never found. In 2017 the giant orange has even appeared in Sean Baker's critically acclaimed film The Florida Project, adding to the colorful roadside scenery surrounding the movie's setting. Orange World suffered another setback in March 2023 when a fire broke out in the storage area above the gift shop, causing significant smoke damage to the interior. For a time, merchandise was sold outside while repairs were underway. The remodeled interior reopened in October 2024, bringing the attraction back to full operation. Today, Orange World sells fresh citrus, juice, orange trees, snacks, cookies, candy, honey, alligator jerky, sauces, jams and jellies, and a huge selection of Florida-themed souvenirs. Inside, you'll find plenty of inexpensive souvenir clothing, T-shirts, Disney and Universal merchandise, gifts, and other tourist memorabilia. I was surprised by how expensive the orange juice was. It was $3.50 for a small cup. Gallons were $14.99. While I absolutely love the giant orange itself, have to admit that I found the inside somewhat underwhelming. For me, the exterior is the star of the show. There is just something wonderfully nostalgic about this giant orange. If you enjoy quirky roadside attractions, classic Florida kitsch, and places that are fun to photograph, Eli's Orange World is definitely worth a quick stop. I've lived in Kissimmee for two years now and I've driven past this past multiple times and never stepped foot inside. I decided this summer today was the day I'd finally step inside and see what it was all about. I was pretty underwhelmed when I went inside. I wasn't expecting greatness, but I was expecting more orange-related foods and objects. It felt like 60% to 70% of the store was filled with knock off Disney paraphernalia. Countless times I have driven back and forth on US-192 and passed by this big orange sphere. My curiosity got the better of me today, so I pulled into to the parking lot to see what was inside. I initially thought Orange World was a fruit market because of the citrus stands outside; however, once inside, I realized it was also a gift shop. There was a large selection of citrus-themed souvenirs, Disney-themed souvenirs, key chains, mugs, plush toys, and so much more. I was informed by a gentleman who works there that the fresh citrus (navel oranges, tangerines, honeybells, and grapefruits) can be sold individually or in a bag at a reasonable price. Citrus fruit samples are available for tasting. There are also citrus trees available for sale as well. I was really amazed by the sweetness of the honeybell orange, which I learned was a cross between a tangerine and a white grapefruit. I ended up purchasing one of them and a tangerine. I had driven by this place for years and decided to finally go inside. It's definitely very touristy inside, however, they have a orange stand at the front that has a variety to choose from. I had no idea there were so many different kinds of oranges. If the worker is there they have samples that you can try. One of them is a cross between grapefruit and tangerine and it is incredible. I'm not even a big fan of grapefruit so I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. They also have yellow watermelon which I had never had before. We ended up buying a few of the oranges and also some astronaut ice cream. If you have friends visiting town or you're having a tourist day, I would definitely recommend you check this place out. read more

If you visit a tourist town, and you don't visit a so-called tourist trap, are you really a tourist? I went this last weekend with a friend to Kissimmee to see a concert. On the way to the concert venue, our Uber driver pointed out this spot, which is ostensibly the biggest Orange in Florida. So this combination gift shop/ museum definitely looks "large". The staff we met were really friendly and told us about the goodies inside. As its name and architecture implies, they do sell different varieties of oranges both as in fresh fruit as well as gummies, jams / preserves and bbq sauces for seasoning. They also sell various fridge magnets and plushies. Besides the fridge magnets I took for friends home, I also bought a small jar of tangerine marmalade (really sweet, I like!) as well as their orange based bbq sauce I've started to use to marinate my lunch. read more

DO NOT COME HERE FOR FRESH SQUEEZED ORANGE JUICE!!! They display a fresh orange juice machine but sell Tropicana juice in a plastic cup! It sucks because when I asked the lady about it, she continued to say it was fresh squeezed orange juice so I asked her can you use the machine outside to squeeze it and she said no they don't use that machine anymore. This place is a scam. She had a smug look on her face when she was telling me this like smirking and laughing I would never come back here again. We had to stop by while visiting because of the cute orange dome that stood out! We were greeted with a friendly gentleman at the front and you can smell the wonderful aroma of the fresh oranges at the entrance of the store. Perfect tourist spot. It is impossible to miss this gigantic half-orange in Kissimmee as you're making your way to your theme park destination. A tourist attraction that screams "FLORIDA!" loud and clear for miles. Allegedly "the world's largest orange," it is 60 feet tall. Oranges, oranges and more oranges. You can buy them here and take them with you, or they can ship oranges to your friends and family. Orange juice. Orange gum. Orange candy. Orange post cards. Orange bushes. Orange perfume. And because it's Florida, they have gator stuff too including gator jerky snacks. Unfortunately, they had some sort of interior damage and so you can only visit the outside at the moment. But it's absolutely worth a stop for something orange to remember your time in Kissimmee. My mom and dad used to bring me here when I was a kid 45 years ago. My mom used to buy an orange blossom perfume that ironically they still make. Guess what she got for her birthday? A blast from the past. I was disappointed during this visit to find they had a fire that closed the inside of the shop. They are currently in the process of redoing the electrical and hope to open sometime this year. When it comes to rip-off tourist shops, Orange World takes the cake. This place is packed with all sorts of overpriced, mass-produced junk that's a dime a dozen in the sightseeing mecca of Orlando. There's really no reason to go inside, just come here for the terrific photo opportunity of the orange-shaped architecture. I highly recommend posing for pictures because it's a free activity, and everyone should see Orange World from the exterior at least once. It's such a Florida icon! Florida Orange World is a tourist must see location. They have organic fruits and natural to minimally processed treats and sweets. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the owner of the location only had the front of the property available for its customers. The location had recently suffered a fire/arson (3 1/2 weeks ago) which almost burned down the location. This was caused by a careless smoker who was at the rear of the property. Thankfully, the owner was able to save the building and is currently in the process of final demolition and renovation of the interior. The onwner is an elderly man who has a wonderful and humble personality. He also is knowledgeable about his fruits, care a lot about the products he provides and has other memorabilia he sells along with other unique organic products. Next time you're around town or visiting this tourist area, make sure to stop by for your batch of sweet delicious organic citrus and other products. read more

If you have traveled on Hwy 192 in Kissimmee you have probably seen the building shaped like a Half of a Giant Mutant Orange. I have passed the Orange for years and my curiosity finally got to me. So I decided to stop by and actually step into the store. So as you may have guessed, they sell a variety of oranges. They even let you sample them. They also carry souvenirs of all kinds. You may purchase an Alligator's Head. Place one in your carry on luggage and have fun with TSA. Lol Actually they are TSA Approved. Another unique item they sell is the Alligator Jerky. I did not see it for sale anywhere else on my trip. Of course, when you spend most of your vacation in Theme Parks the likelyhood is less. If you have afew moments, go on in and check it out.
