Reasonably priced ice cream after a visit to the caves nearby. I enjoyed my soft serve swirl cone. My husband got a strawberry ice cream but unfortunately it was very sweet and artificial tasting with seemingly no real strawberries. We had just finished up touring nearby Luray Caverns (beautiful!) and were in the mood for some ice cream. Flotzie's Soft Serve is conveniently located nearby, set up behind the Liberty Gas Station/7 Eleven in the shared parking lot. The shop itself is a walkup to order, but they've created a really fun atmosphere by adding picnic tables, a little shelter area, and a variety of outdoor games and activities. Nice set up! The menu is large and offers a nice variety. We opted to go with the flotzies of the name, which were described as being similar to a Blizzard/McFlurry style treat. Great family place. This is some delicious ice cream. They have regular flavors, and a good amount of options. It is an institution of Luray. Plus people across Page County come over here. That gives it added prestige. What it lacks in a traditional way, how can you not love Flotzie's style? The employees are super friendly. Thank you to all of them. The ice cream is spectacular, the options are abundant, the prices are on point, the staff is super friendly, and the owners are out of this world - spending time on-site interacting and engaging with the community. It's a truly local spot with unlimited charm. So what is a Flotzie's Soft Serve? Well, fortunately they have a sign right at the order counter that explains to you that it's similar to a Mcflurry. If the curiosity of the name of the spot isn't enough to draw you in, then let me tell you it's definitely worth a stop if you're looking for a quick snack to cool off or dessert to wash down your bbq from triple crown across the street. While this place provided solid 'scream, nothing about the different ice cream's we tried really made it stand out beyond your standard ice cream spot, so I wouldn't recommend that you drive out of your way to go try this. That said, if you are in the area or you happen to be passing by, then give it a shot. The staff there was friendly and kind, and did a great job walking us through their menu. It does look like they get a little creative, as we saw a dill pickle shaved ice on their menu. I am normally adventurous, but when you're showing up somewhere to appease your sweet tooth, this wasn't going to be the answer. I figured that might be worth mentioning though as it looks like it rotates different creative flavor options. So naturally I ordered a flotzie and I had got it as the cookie butter flavor. We stopped after a visit to Luray caverns and made our decision based on social media reviews. When you pull up, it's appealing. The workers are friendly. The menu has a lot but it's disorganized and you take a few moments to try to decipher. I settled for a soft serve twist. I'm not sure how to describe it but it was gritty tasting. I felt like wax was covering my mouth and teeth. It was so bizarre. We also ordered the samoa flotzie and an m & m flotzie. Both lacked the mix-ins and it resembled more of a cup Of vanilla ice cream than what was displayed on the menu. There are picnic tables with nice big umbrellas so you can enjoy your treats but the tables definitely are not cleaned. I guess you have to wait for a good, hard rain for that to happen or BYO sanitizing wipes. It was fun to try once but we'll be trying some place different when back in this area. read more

I got one of the shaved ices and it had very little flavor and was many ice. I then found 5-6 little bugs in my shaved ice. my sister who got the same thing and there was none in hers. This made me wonder how well they clean tools in the ice cream shop or if they just don't take care of it in genera. it was very gross and disappointing. I don't recommend going. My husband and I ordered, asked a question about the size of the different options, and the young woman taking our order rolled her eyes, slammed her pen down (yup...) , curtly grabbed an example, then tossed them aside (yup... that happened too). My husband and I were so stunned, we just looked at each other like "Did that just happen? This is SO awkward.". I understand that everyone is short-staffed these days. They have soft serve ice cream and other treats loosely tied to soft serve ice cream (like their take on McDonald's "McFlurries" which are very little like them and not much to like about them.
