Where do I start? From the beginning :-) ...I walked into Flying Curves Dance Studio on May 2, 2023. I immediately knew that this was going to be a life changing experience. I have no previous dance experience and Christina welcomed me, creating a safety and enthusiasm that was incredibly inviting. Now nine months later I have been going pretty consistently, attending both group classes and private sessions with Christina. One of the best aspects of this studio is Christina's teaching style. She completely empowers you, encouraging you to express yourself the way your body already intuitively knows. However don't be mistaken, this isn't just a feel good place --you really work your ass off! As much as there is a warmth and invitation to express (especially when you get to dance/freestyle at the end of every class), you will learn pole tricks, you will learn combinations, and it will be challenging in the best way. So that said, this studio --and Christina's style of teaching--are both head and heart based--a great blend of everything allowing your body to create and express in all the ways. At forty-nine I am literally having the freaking time of my life! And it is thanks to Christina and Flying Curves. When I say this has changed me, I mean it has brought me joy in a way that nothing ever has. I don't even know where to begin.. it had been over a decade since my feet touched a dance floor.. since I made space for my body to move to the rhythm of music. Earlier in the year, feeling out of touch with myself, I sought out dance classes in the valley. Now, I wasn't looking for any hip hop class or ballroom dance, just something.. different.. lyrical dance maybe? One where I could flow to rhythm and reconnect with myself. A few scrolls through Yelp and I came across something that piqued my interest. "Flying Curves" and in the subheading "life coach." I perused the page and words like "movement therapy" "empowerment" "intimate" "comfortable" "adventure" appeared beneath my eyes. This.. is just what I was looking for. Some googling and YouTube (they have a channel) helped me learn a bit more of what Flying Curves is all about. I saw dazzling women of all ages, shapes, and sizes greet me from the screen, carrying out movements I could never imagine myself doing. In truth, I was a bit intimidated, did I have it in me to dance so sensually? To express myself in that way?? I made a call to gather some more information. A kind and warm voice greeted me on the other line, it was Christina, the woman who I did not yet realize was going to turn my life around in the most unique and special way possible. Walking into my first day of class I entered into the comfortable room of an apartment space. Neon lights illuminated the walls, tufted lounge chair in one corner, stiletto heels and feather boas adorned stair railings. No mirrors, just a dance floor, I felt like I was transported to a gatsbyesque film set. I was received with the warmest greeting by my instructor, Christina, and the other women joining me for class. While I felt like a meager anxious mouse walking in, the fears melted quickly. I felt so safe. Over the course of a few intro to pole classes I surprised myself with the progress I was making. Christina really took her time to break down the movements and modify choreography to meet my level. While I was slowly building more courage in myself, I was truly enchanted by the women I was dancing with. Seeing how disinhibited they were, how they flowed so freely, inspired me so much. I learned just as much from them as I did from Christina, and what I felt from the environment Christina has created is one of self acceptance, body positivity, self love, risk taking, and connection. I have never danced in a space like Flying Curves. There's a special energy in there.. an aura I can't quite express in words. I recently completed a 5 week beginner burlesque series and I am truly so astounded with myself. I never would have thought I could feel this confident in myself.. and yet it grew within from exploring my body and what it could do. Where do I start!? I first starting attending classes in May of this year and was very nervous about joining because I have way too many insecurities. But, I messaged Christina beforehand and she seemed very inviting and safe. After my first class, I was hooked! It was such a wonderful experience for me. After class, I literally cried because I was able to feel slightly more comfortable in my body. I think sometimes we place too much criticism on ourself and we fixate on our perceived flaws. Probably one of the best pole studio I have been to. It's different from standard pole studios but that's what makes this place so unique and awesome. The owner is quick to respond to messages and answered all my questions so thoroughly. As soon as you enter you are greeted right away by the owner and she is so warm and welcoming. I LOVE her vibe. She made me feel so welcome and comfortable here. She is what you would call a pole mom. Then the class is divided up based on your level and then you have what was called big sisters that have been there longer and help out with the new girls (which we are called the little sisters) the whole concept is genius and cute. Instead of having a main instructor, you rely on each other to help each other out which in return probably builds relationships! Genius. All the girls in the class are so friendly and just super welcoming. I didn't feel intimated at all and just felt so comfortable! I'm sad because I wish this studio was near to where I live but was only in the area due to my house being remodeled, and currently staying at my parents home for the time being. After going here I'm seriously considering moving back in with my parents . At the end of class you get a nice performance from the other girls that have already been there for a while OR you can opt to join in and freestyle! This studio definitely deserve 5 stars. For those that are allergic to cats I would take a allergy med before you go as this residence does have a cat, but the cat is stowed away so I wasn't really hindered by it at all. read more

Driving home last week I was brought to tears at how HAPPY I am to have found Flying Curves Dance Studio! I had my first taste of pole dancing when I was in seventh grade and for the past sixteen years I have been wanting to take a class. When she is working with another girl the more experienced girls help out the newbies. They watch and give pointers, as well as encouragement. Unfortunately will not be returning. The last class I attended was anything but empowering, which was the main reason I decided to go. Overcrowded class and the lack of instructor interaction left the instructor stressed which she ultimately took out on myself and another classmate. In addition to this, she went on to single us out in front of the rest of the class, toward the end of class, to make us "an example." When I asked for clarification, this was dismissed and not addressed. Felt like we were being treated as children vs. adults. Could hardly make it through the rest of the class with any confidence at all. So disappointing. read more

Flying Curves Dance Studio has been such an incremental part of my life. Six months ago I signed up for 1 class with no expectations other than my wonderment of what pole dancing was like. Christina's (the instructor) class description felt safe and therefore my shy reserved self found the confidence to try one class, just one :) I never in my wildest dreams thought that 1 class would turn into multiple classes, being in an amazing show, forming very close friendships, and finding myself on a journey of self discovery. I joined meet up when I first moved to California to meet new friends and have fun experiences. I came across Flying Curves Dance Studio and thought I would be open to trying something different. When I was ready I went with an open mind and left my first class feeling such joy that I hadn't felt in a long time. After one class almost two years ago I was hooked. Since then this is the only workout I have been able to stick with ultimate results as it is more fun and exciting than anything I have ever tried. The instructor Christina is incredibly welcoming and encouraging. She works at all levels and the one on one individual attention allows me to and execute my dances safely. The classes are the perfect size and everyone is accepting and supportive. This is a safe respected place with no intimidation. This class has made me realize that I can accomplish anything in my life as her method of teaching empowers women and allows us to be the best we can be.
