Mind you, we're dressed very casual for a day out and about and with our backpacks. Within a few minutes, Miguel came to introduce himself and from there it was a delight. One of our group showed interest in a wallet and he immediately pulled out all the different colors and styles in that size, let us handle and compare, no problem at all. We didn't feel rushed, or pushed, he was so graceful and fun! We ended up purchasing a handbag and 2 wallets, we were able to get hot stamping on everything we wanted... Miguel was wonderful. During check out, he explained the VAT (tax refund) process and gave me the form and instructions on how to. This was a memorable experience for my friends and I. Were it not for luggage restrictions, I would have definitely done a lot more damage here. While the store itself is not super large, it's easy to spend hours browsing as there are a multitude of items ranging from decorative centerpieces, ornamental trinkets to practical tableware as well as intricate Portuguese tiles. I was just in Japan marveling over all the ceramics that I wished I could bring home, but I have to say the Portuguese ceramic game is on a whole another level... the pieces are unique (no two pieces are identical), well-made and best of all, very economically priced. I ended up purchasing multiple pieces of tableware (plates and bowls) while my partner bought a large ornamental ceramic cat as a gift -- all for around 70 euros! Make sure to ask them for bubble wrap (priced at 1€ per square meter-- the ladies at the counter will tell you how much you need) to protect your pieces for the journey home. A must visit during your trip to Lisbon to stock up on the most unique of gifts and home tableware, but if you plan on visiting I would recommend bringing along an extra suitcase! :^)

Many of the pieces are sold by weight and some are by the piece. There are mugs, cups, saucers, plates, bowls and all sorts of other things to use in the kitchen and dining room. Once I figured out the system, I ended up with two absolutely beautiful white coffee mugs and a very pretty pink bowl. The young lady who rang up my sale wrapped them in paper and they survived the rest of the day in Lisbon and then the journey back to home. The bowl is on my desk. The regular stock includes many items for English speakers, including textbooks for learning Portuguese. This is a local treasure that deserves support and gives it back to the people who live here. We are big fans of history and graphic design, as well as passionate people with specific interests. We noticed the incredible Art Deco entrance alcove with beautiful stamp displays, and then up the vintage elevator to the top floor, very quiet and mysterious. Through a door into the most incredible stamp museum from all over the world! Awe inspiring colorful designs from all eras, marking major world events of current places and countries long forgotten. And then to find out each stamp is for sale at very affordable prices. While we had no way of communicating due to the language barrier, we were so happy to find the two people there were the sweetest and most welcome hosts, showing us sweeping views of the surrounding city outside of their balcony doors. We bought a few excellent stamps, left them a tip because of the incredible experience that we just had. While maybe not for everybody, definitely a highlight of our entire trip!
