First time here! Came during lunch time and we were seated immediately. Husband got the creole breakfast and I ordered their pesto mushroom risotto. Husband enjoyed his plate and finished it within a few minutes. It came with 2 different types of sauces: a white cilantro flavored one and a red mild sauce that was a bit spicy for him. The pesto mushroom risotto was good, but a little salty for my liking. If you want to add protein, it's ~$6 for beef or shrimp and ~$4 for chicken. Overall, it was good! We'll most likely be back. I'm so glad my youngest (14,16) grands are adventurous when it comes to trying foods from other cultures. Fogonero is tucked into a newish strip center near the old Cedar Park Walmart. Grandsons were out of the country for Christmas and we wanted to give them their gift and take them to lunch. I gave them several options based on yelp recommendations and they decided they wanted to try Venezuelan food. Great choice boys!!! This property is smallish but quaint with adequate seating for lucky diners who have experienced the food and have come back or for first timers like our party. Wilson who took care of us provided exceptional service, and made excellent suggestion as to what we should try. All of us had had empanadas before, but that was the extent of our knowledge of their delicious menu. We did indeed get the Empanada Sampler which had four different mini empanadas. Combo of fried corn dough stuffed with ground beef, shredded beef, chicken, and cheese with cilantro, and garlic aioli. We cut them up so that everybody could experience them. Best ever! Cooked perfectly, golden brown, and delicious! We also tried a beef & cheese stuffed Arepa. It was huge and also stellar! Based on Wilson's advice two of us tried the Pabello Criolla :Shredded beef accompanied with rice, black beans, fried sweet plantains, avocado, fried cheese and a fried egg on top. It was so tasty!!! My grandson that's a pasta lover tried the Fosforera Linguini -Seafood linguini Venezuelan style. He enjoyed it. The serving size is more than adequate so we all took part of our meal home to enjoy for dinner that night. The one diner that was not open to trying non-familiar food really enjoyed his Bacon Cheeseburger with all the toppings and properly salted home-made fries. He rarely if ever compliments food but said it was the best burger he's had in quite some time and he really liked the fries too so there is SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE at FOGONERO. I also have to add that every one of our dishes was seasoned to perfection and I'm sure that added to our enjoyment of them. The food was super fresh. Venezuelan cuisine! The appetizer patacones was as filling as a meal. The combination of flavors was unique and delicious! I had read a review about the rice being incredibly tasty. I agree! There was some kind of butter flavoring. Everything was 100% and all highly recommended. We stopped in to try something different. It was a nice quiet evening just us and one other table. We tried the tequenos, empanadas, crispy fish and pabellon criollo. Every bite I had today was absolutely amazing! Our server, Wilson, was so attentive and helpful with explaining what different things were. We were there for a very late lunch so were the only ones there but for a group of 6, we got our food quickly but they also timed the meals correctly. Delicious and so fresh!! Highly recommend the food and service. I ordered their short rib soup and it was delicious and tasted very fresh. My husband ordered the steak with onions. It came with an egg on top. The steak was tasty and tender. For the kids we had the shredded beef plate that came with rice and beans, they enjoyed it. The only small negative thing was that we did have to wait for about 20 mins for the cheese stick appetizers and an extra 10 mins for our main plates. With young kids it can be a long time to wait. We ordered the beef with the red wine sauce, it was very overdone and tough to eat. The empanadas were okay, i think the ground beef and the cheese were the best choice. The fried yucca were okay. Delicious Venezuelan food-need I say more? When the menu is entirely on Spanish, you know it's going to be good. Don't know Spanish? No problem- they have a QR code menu in English. We went on a super cold Sunday night, so they weren't very busy, but wow. The service was wonderful and the food was even better. Even my young kids loved the food, most of which was new to them. If you have young kids that aren't adventurous, the kids menu has two solid staples for them: chicken strips with fries or Mac and cheese. It's a simple restaurant, comfortable, not fancy. We had the mini empanadas and the pastelitos for appetizers. For our entrees, we had Pabellon Criollo and Asada Negro, with a side of fried yucca. On a whim this evening, we spun the Yelp wheel, and ended up at Fogo Nero in Cedar Park. What a fortuitous spin that was! The restaurant is on the backside of a strip mall, entered off of Walton Way, so you cannot see it from the street. But, the drive around to the rear of the strip mall is rewarded with amazing food. Suite 132, follow the numbers and you'll find it. Plenty of parking back there! It was a Sunday evening, about 6:30 PM, and the place was pretty empty. Not surprising, since it's only been open about two months, and only 3 reviews on Yelp. The tip off ... all reviews were 5 stars. Cross reference Google Maps... 33 reviews, all 5 stars! Adding another 5 star review here! (PS the Pflugerville location has been open 2.5 years). First things first... the owner, Wilson, greeted us at the door and seated us. Very amicable fellow, good spirited, great guy! Since it wasn't that busy this evening, we were able to visit at length on multiple occasions. He did a great job explaining the cuisine, a Venezuelan-Peruvian-Italian fusion. Seasonings and flavors you likely have not experienced before (like us), but were fantastic! We started with two appetizers: the classic ceviche and the mini-empanada plate. Both amazing. We downed the empanadas first, while they were hot. In the appetizer plate, you get 4 different fillings, shredded beef, ground beef, shredded chicken and cheese. For "mini" empanadas, these things were big. The fillings were wonderfully seasoned, and on point! Served piping hot... let them cool a minute or two... A brief aside, Fogo Nero provides a red/orange picante sauce and garlic aioli on the side. You'll need extras of those, both are delicious... keep asking for more while you dine! When you experience a meal there, you'll understand why! For entrees, we ordered crispy fish and the seafood soup (fosforera). The crispy fish (fried cod sticks) was excellent, right amount of batter, serve piping hot, topped with "chalaca." If you haven't had chalaca, get it here! Wonderful! The seafood soup was also delicious. Lots of seafood in the soup. The fish and shrimp had a bit of a fishy taste, but timing is tough when you're making a soup to order, and some of the items are pre-cooked (think timing on a paella recipe). The calamari and mussels were perfect! We had the occasion to visit with Wilson for about 10 minutes at the end of the meal... we discussed all the dishes we had, ingredients, etc. We even discussed the seafood soup and slightly "fishy" fish and shrimp. Wilson was very interested in and appreciated the feedback. We had a very nice chat! We cannot wait to go back, so many more menu items to try! Bottom Line: fantastic new place in Cedar Park. All my fellow Yelpers and Google Maps friends should check it out ASAP. We are definitely going back... over and over! Highly recommend Fogo Nero. Get you some of that...!!! read more

Went to pick up my order, was surprised that there was no one at a table. Must be family owned as they are running it like a home Kitchen with servers eating in the restaurant. Came for the arepas.. they were great but could be fantastic with some minor tweaks. The arepa itself is too small. Needs to be larger to hold the ingredients. Ordering online is a problem since they DONT have the standard shredded meat, black beans, fried plantains and cheddar cheese. You have to select topping but not really get the standard. The arepa is too small for its content and for $15$ + for one arepa, the corn arepa needs to be larger. Garlic sauce is a must.... but again needs to be in bigger than a quarter size container. Small changes could elevate them to a MUST HAVE. read more

In the strip mall on Walton Way next to Walmart a new Argentinian restaurant opened. Looking over the menu before I went, Thought the pricing was a little high. Then again everything is priced high now. The was plenty of parking close to the door. I head inside and no one but workers there. I guess lunch is a good time to go. Since I wasn't that hungry, decide to order just an appetizer. The four mini empanadas and a side of sweet plantains it is. So I sipped my tea until the food was delivered. While the empanadas were cooling, I dig into the sweet plantains. So tender and sweet. I had about 3 and realized there were still empanadas to eat. I had one each of ground beef, shredded beef, chicken and cheese. Truthfully they were all delicious. I tried the ground beef first, packed with flavor and love the dough crispy yet soft inside. The chicken was next and I think this was my favorite. I do plan on going again. waiting because we have so many new restaurants that are pricy opening, I want to try others. read more

It was just us and another party, and it happened to be Valentine's Day, so they had the decorations up for this occasion (balloons, streamers) which added to the cute ambience. They had a special which included wine, but I'm pregnant so I couldn't partake. The pabellón criollo was delicious - just well seasoned and bursting with flavor. Solid Venezuelan food. For take-out, make sure you call ahead. We ordered on-site and waited for almost 40 minutes. Another heads up, their arepa options are listed under "breakfast" on their online menu (I couldn't find them which is why we ended up ordering in-person). Their arepas were pretty good (always a fan of Reina Pepiada) but the empanadas stole the show. Must get. I also really enjoyed their soups -- I tried all 3 on the menu. They were all delicious. My only gripe was that the advertised arepa/half arepa that comes with the soup isn't an actual stuffed arepa. It's just dense dough. Skip it and use your stomach real estate for actual arepas or empanadas. Or tequeños, for that matter. I didn't try them here but they're always a hit. read more

First - Google maps isn't correct! You'll find Fogonero overlooking the Starbucks on the corner. I was in the area and saw this place with empanadas and arepas so I stopped in to check it out. As it was quiet, I had a chance to talk to the owner. The owner explained that they are Venezuelan, and Arepas and Empanadas are breakfast, so that's where you will find them on the menu. The empanadas were awesome. The outside pastry is corn based instead of wheat and a tad sweeter than those I'm used to having. I noticed a new restaurant had opened, but it was hard to see what it was all about through the window. I thought it might be Brazilian, but came to find out it is Argentinian . Just coming back from Fogonero. We had a late lunch of Empanadas, Congri Rice, Crispy Fish and Asada Negro. The empanadas were crispy fried, served with a mildly spicy dipping sauce. Filled with, chicken, cheese and beef. The Congri (black beans and rice) was nicely seasoned, the Asada Negro had a rich, flavorful sauce and sweet fried plantains. Delicious. The food here was incredibly tasty. At first we tried to order delivery, but cost jumped (due to Grubhub's ridiculous charges) to almost twice as much! Ended up eating in, and I'm so glad we did. Husband had rustic chicken breast, which was flavorful breast smothered in tast sauce, along with artichokes capers, olives served over mashed potatoes. I had the "pabellón criollo, which reminded me of a Venezuelan bibembop. Black beans , excellent grilled cheese, plantains, avocado, fried egg, and shredded beef. All tasty.
