I have had many regrets from eating gas station food in my sorted foodie past but there has been those rare few that have had some surprisingly tasty offerings, and this is one of them. Formerly French's Barge-N-Chevron, it's now  Woodson's Barge-N-Chevron has some of that surprising good food thanks to Melissa Woodson, who owns this little eatery tucked into a Chevron on a busy corner in Gulf Shores since 2004. She was quoted "I bought a farm this summer, and we've been doing dishes with veggies I grow." Everything that I've tried here has been fresh and very tasty and I'm a fan!  The #1 thing that everyone talks about is the fried chicken, and there's for good reason, it is FAR better than the KFC, Popeyes, etc. chain store chicken, it's really, really good. In addition they have some of the best tasting chicken livers I've tasted anywhere, so chicken is tops for me.   Popular items include green beans, potato salad, hushpuppies, squash casserole (made with just-picked crooknecks), big fried potatoes, fried shrimp, banana nut bread and more.  One note for some of the patrons from years past, they continue to make the same favorite chicken salad, which is a dish original to the spot. Most folks grab ' go, even ordering ahead, but there's 4 big tables and chairs to seat 12 inside so dining in is an option, but it's still a gas station.  As for the convenience store itself, their gas prices are WAY too high which is one of the reasons it took me so long to discover them, but the convenience is well stocked with snacks, coffee, beer and even automotive stuff.  Bottom line: The ladies here are very hospitable and always greet you with a smile, the food is fresh and reasonably priced. My boyfriend and I walked over from our hotel to grab some DayQuil and tobacco products before he headed to work. Madison, the cashier, provided absolutely HORRIBLE customer service, which made us feel uncomfortable and borderline disrespected with a hint of racism. Here's what happened: Madison asked for my ID, which was confusing because just two days prior, she sold us alcohol, cigarettes, and an e-vape without asking for it. My boyfriend started to show his ID but she insisted on she must see mine. We went back to the hotel to grab my ID, and when I returned, it seemed like she had alerted the other staff about us, possibly making them aware that we was walking back in and to stop talking about the situation. When we got to the counter, she goes to get the merchandise and proceeded to THROW it onto the counter, demanding my ID again. It felt overly aggressive, especially since she didn't even check my boyfriend's ID. She was only focused on harassing me about mine. After I showed her my ID and paid, I asked her to hand me the merchandise in my hand, but she outright refused, saying she didn't have to put anything in my hand. When I told her that it's basic customer service to hand products to customers, her response was dismissive. She said " why should I have to put something in your hand" A black employee then stepped in and handed the products to my boyfriend, saying "this is too much." I couldn't tell if she was referring to my request for basic respect or Madison's lack of respect and customer service skills. Either way, it was frustrating but I still thanked her for putting it in his hand. I won't be returning to this store because I know you guys not going to fire her it clear as day she is use to it , and it's disheartening to hear from another customer as we are leaving out that Madison's behavior has been reported multiple times without any action taken. It leaves a bad taste and makes me question whether Dodge's supports this kind of borderline racist treatment environment. I truly hope management addresses these issues because no one should feel unwelcome or disrespected, especially in a service setting.

Publix is always one of our favorite places to shop as well as get some good Southern Fried Chicken. Check them out when you're in the Gulf Shores area!

I got recommended by their cashier for a cocktail sauce on shift that I mix Nasal Napalm & Sauce Master Medium Hot Sauce. (Which I'll upload a pic) I tried it upon their recommendation & it will be the only thing I'd dip my shrimp in after seasoning it with their garlic herb seasoning. This last visit, hubby went all Jungle man fruity over the new spill proof grab & go tamper evident containers of fresh cut up fruit that are located in the produce section. He really loved the mixed fruit, moi loved the mango one. The square spill proof tamper evident containers fit nicely in our cooler & did not spill in the cooler at all. Great product. Much Aloha. Hubby loves his Jungle man surf days ridin some killer waves, so we will be back soon for those totally awesome mixed fruit cups. It's hubby's new fruity surf side jam jam-bony! Arrrrr! Recommend.
