After moving to…read moreMobile and gathering as much of the history from books as I could endure a friend and I joined Todd on his Sunday walking tour. It was great. His stories brought to life all the dry facts I had read. Almost a year later I joined Todd on his Mardi Gras tour. Having experienced two Mobile Mardi Gras hearing his tales brought it all full circle and the how's and who's were answered. I would recommend these tours to anyone, local or guests. They are informative without being overwhelming. My next tour will be one of his evening tours and I'm ever so looking forward to it!

Across the street is the Africatown Cemetery, which is an interesting place to meander thru and take in some of the differences in grave sites/resting places. For the record, there is an Africa town Heritage House in town, but it was not open the day that we rolled through here. Their hours are 10 AM to 5 PM Tuesdays through Saturdays.

It opened its doors in July 8, 2023. There is a reason it opened on this day, you must do your own research to find the answer. I've read several books about Cudjoe (Kazoola) Lewis and the decedents of Africatown. Read the book called the "Barracoon before you visit, this will give you a better understanding. The actual welcome center is being rebuilt. The Heritage House museum will give you some maps and info to visit the other sites in town. Visit the museum, churches, parks and cemetery. There are a few old houses still standing. Enjoy your visit, Im sure we will visit again soon. BTW: Alot of people are not aware that this town exist, education is the key to the truth. Tell your friends, visit and donate if possible. The visitor center is currently under construction, so I shared some of the local sites. @glampedlife

There are so many amazing things that happen when we are here…read more We love to bring our dog Gus. It is peaceful and serene with a quiet reverence about it. There is beauty and nature mingled with strategic forts that protected our country. On this particular visit, a bald eagle flew very close to the car and my open window. Seems the Eagle may have been a bit of a scamp and ticked off a seagull that was chasing him as we were slowly cruising by the wall. Super cool day, all the way around!

This really brings a great bit of local art along with a long history of Mobile's love for oysters. If you find yourself in Downtown Mobile Alabama, I would definitely check some of these out. It is my opinion that local art such as this gives a city its personality. This is a great addition to the Mobile, Alabama area.

Have you ever noticed the 3 feet tall, fiberglass, painted oyster shells in downtown Mobile? This…read morehas to be one of the most unique things to see in Mobile. It's actually a project of the Mobile Bay Oyster Gardening Program to support restoration work in the Mobile Bay and the Mississippi Sound. Each shell is articulately painted with different scenes from Mobile. They are painted by local artists and sponsored by local businesses. All of the shells are beautiful, but my favorites are the ones at the corner of Dauphin and Washington and on the corner of Dauphin and Conception Street at Beinville Square. There is an Oyster Trail map that you can pick up in many hotels and visitors centers. If you can't find a map, you can go to the website and print out a map. The Oyster Trail doesn't end in Mobile. There are several oysters in Baldwin County too!

Ice water and capri suns were ice cold for $1. The boat also had a marine toilet, which came in handy at with kiddos who "didn't need to go" while at the marina. This was our 3rd tour over the years. Brother and sister in law have had two other companies and never seen but one. The deck hand was a blast and these guys know the way to get the dolphins to jump the wake because they use two boats. The dolphins come up between, great for pictures and videos.
