For the next few days I pondered making the purchase and decided to do it. I decided I'd put the balance on a new credit card with an introductory 0% APR. I'd have to wait for the credit card to arrive before I could make payment. This is a timeline of what occurred: *8/20/2024 @ 1:09pm - I called Sylvan Furniture and spoke with Ed. I told him that I was interested in moving forward with the Lazboy set I looked at the previous week. I indicated I'd be making the purchase within the next week or so, but I was waiting for a new credit card in the mail. Ed told me that they charge a 3% fee on credit card purchases. He said he'd run numbers to see what deal he could get me. *8/20/2024 @ 3:41pm - Spoke with Ed again and he indicated it would be about $7,500 for the set. I asked if there were other colors available and he indicated yes. I also asked if there was plenty in stock so I wouldn't have to wait excessively long. He assured me that they have plenty. *8/27/2024 @ 1:25pm - Received a call from Ed indicating that the sale would end on 8/30 and I needed to purchase soon as the next sale wasn't as good. I asked him if there was any chance I could come down to the warehouse to see some of the other colors. At that time, he indicated that there was only the brown. This was red flag number one, as he indicated previously they had other colors available. *8/27/2024 @ 1:48pm - Ed texted me a copy of the quote. *8/30/2024 @ 12:45pm - I called to make sure I wasn't going to lose my sale price if I had to make the purchase on Saturday, 9/1/2024, because I still hadn't received the credit card in the mail. The female I spoke with (don't remember the name) indicated the sale prices were through Tues 9/3/2024. This was red flag number two. Why was I given a different sale end date by Ed? Was Ed's call on the 8/27/2024 @ 1:48pm some shady high pressure tactic to get me to purchase it that day by drumming up a sense of urgency? *8/30/2024 @ 5:20pm - Called to make the purchase because I got the credit card in the mail. Ed indicated that they may only have what's on the floor, if that. He said he needed to call the warehouse and would call me back in a "couple of minutes". This was red flag number three, as I had specifically asked if there was plenty in stock on the 20th. Why was there suddenly no inventory? *8/30/2024 @ 5:51pm - Called back because I hadn't heard anything and they were closing in ~9 minutes. Was told Ed was with a customer and they'd leave a message for him to call me. *8/30/2024 @ 5:55pm - Received a callback from a woman (don't remember the name) who indicated there was nothing in stock and it would be up to 8 weeks for it to arrive. She was rather unapologetic but was full of excuses. None of which made sense. I had called on the 20th to confirm they had plenty of inventory, which they said they did. Ed had called me on the 27th about needing to make the purchase soon, but at no time did he indicate that they were suddenly low on inventory. At this point in the conversation, I told the woman that I wouldn't be moving forward with them due to all of this. In the end, it all worked out okay because I found the exact same set on Wayfair for the same prices (give or take $100). Best parts are, no delivery fee (and it's "white glove"), no credit card fee and they gave me 10% off the entire order for being a new customer. Oh, and it'll be here in 3-4 weeks. Wayfair knows customer service apparently. Sylvan Furniture had wanted to charge me a 3% credit card fee, a $120 delivery fee and make me wait up to 8 weeks. If it were me, I'd stay away from Sylvan Furniture. I won't be going to them in the future for sure.

The original quote also included a delivery charge of $150 but they were willing to wave the charge when informed that other local stores carrying Tempur-pedic didn't have that charge while I understand that errors happen I expect companies to honor a quote provided by what they call a sleep expert.

I started looking for a mattress when I discovered the one I purchased off Craigslist sounded like an elephant trying to give birth to a dragon every time I attempt to even sit on it. I was afraid a new mattress would cost me upwards $300 with a box spring adding at least an extra $50. After searching google maps for a place to find a replacement, Higgonsons popped up as the closest. I went to their website and saw they had a full mattress+boxspring set for $199. This blew me away and I knew it would probably be awful. However I decided to give them a call to see their other offers. I got on the phone and asked, and lo-and-behold they had mattresses from $199 up to $600+. However they had several under $300. I went into the store and a woman at the front desk showed me to all of their mattresses. I couldn't believe it: the $229 set was amazing! For the price I thought I was going to melt and it was double sided to boot! Not only that, but they had free delivery for back to school! It's normally free delivery on orders above $300 anyway, but this was very special all the same. The four stars is for their selection outside mattresses and some couches. I don't think I would furnish my home here, but for mattresses, you can't beat it! Also recommend going in to see the rest of their products. Your tastes may be different than mine!

Tuesday came and we get a call saying they cannot find the bed they worked so hard to sell us and they offered to "waive the haul away fee for the old bed, deliver after hours, rush order a new bed, deliver after hours, and gave us 7% discount." We waited a few days and they called us to say they placed the order with the distributor but their stock was 2-days out from them being able to ship it (by this point, we're at 1.5 weeks bed-less) so we waited...Friday comes around (2 weeks bed-less) and we get the FedEx tracking # and it should be delivered Wednesday (YAY!)...so, Wednesday comes and the tracking # isn't showing anything. We call Higginson's and they don't have it and it's too late to call over to the East Coast so we'll have to wait until the next day *insert comment from above about cancelling orders*. They called us back the next day (2 weeks bed-less) and told us the bed never shipped and that they could get it in withing 5-7 business days...we ended up cancelling and closing our finance account with them - was so excited and ended up being so bummed out and disappointed.

The man I spoke with very rudely told me they don't do repairs if they didn't sell the appliance to the customer (the machine came with the house, we have no idea where it came from). He didn't bother to ask me what the problem was or suggest that we might need a replacement which could have helped him make a sale. We made some inquiries and brought in a plumber who determined the machine indeed needs to be replaced. Which we will do right away -- from a competitor down in Lewiston. And we decided to buy a matching dryer, too. Sorry, Howard Hughes, you just lost a sale because of your service rep. So much for trying to support local businesses.
