This is a fantastic place for family photos and one we've used for a couple of different years now. It's clean easy to access well maintained by the city and we really enjoy it. Our photographer is excellent. She does a wonderful job. We're very pleased to have her. She always makes the best family photos. And this is our favorite site to do it. 11-30-24 Saturday Had out of town visitors and they wanted to go to the beach. I normally go to Buerkes Beach but one of the persons in our party cannot walk far. So I chose this beach based on the high Yelp ratings that proved once again correct. Once we arrived you pay the meter based on the time you plan to be at the beach. I chose two hours. You enter the parking space number and pay $1. per hour which is very reasonable. Gorgeous beach lots of sand that has not eroded away. If it was warmer we would definitely have stayed longer here. Love this beach! No parking was available at 1 pm on Saturday, peak season. But there was plenty when we returned at 4 pm. Parking is $5/hr but free after 5 pm. The walk to the beach is relatively short and along a wooden ramp, no stairs. There was a nice, woven rug walkway through the dunes. Lots of people but not overcrowded. Outside showers and restrooms available. read more

While waiting for our condo to be ready we popped in HHI 3 hours early (we from Atlanta) We know traffic... Just driving around and checking out the place we stumbled on the trailhead of a beach. Off our shoes went, flip flops on, grabbed the glasses. The party is getting started. Walked over a nice deck pathway to the sand and made a beeline straight to the water for our first dose of VITAMIN SEA of the summer! Beautiful beach, the low tide avails us to have more room to walk on, not polluted, not as crowded as I thought it was going to be. I am early, so to speak... lol a lot of happy faces. Good beach park, but not a lot of parking. There are clean bathrooms & a place to rinse the sand off. If you don't have a locals parking pass, you need to pay the meter in order to park. The beach here is wide & sandy. This is one of my favorite go- to beach spots if there are parking spaces available. read more

Great park with a large parking lot. The park includes beach access and a boardwalk that ends at a mat for handicap access that allows wheelchairs to make it pretty far onto the sand. That's very good. The beach includes restrooms and outdoor showers. The beach itself is flat and the sand is quite firm. It's a great spot for a beach umbrella and sit in the Sun. One of my absolute favorite beach access sites. My husband is on crutches and the handicapped access mats made it so much easier. So grateful! Parking. That can be a bit of a pickle unless you know the hours to get in and out. We all Know get in early and stay or leave early to beat the traffic. Anyway. Then. The beach is large and the sand can usually be quite packed down. Perfect for umbrellas and mats or chairs. Best part? The walk up drink locations for a frozen this or that. Perfect summer day. Not sure how but people are catching on to this beach location and it's getting a little more crowded but still respectful of space and plenty room. Favorite beach spot for us "almost locals" and definitely better than Tybee anyway. read more

I fell in love with the quaint beauty of Folly Beach! We came for a late beach day and arrived around 6pm. This was perfect timing because most people were leaving the beach at this time. We got to enjoy an empty beach, listen to the calming waves, and watch the beautiful sunset. Folly is also not as crowded as Hilton Head, so this is a great alternative if you're looking to get away from the crowds. read more

This beach is GREAT! Plenty of room to spread out, not over crowded with tourist or locals and friendly. We took our family of 6 (4 teenagers) every day to the beach while staying on HHI and were never disappointed. With the dunes being a breeding habitat for sea turtles the beach stays clean and manicured. Make sure to cleanup after yourself and lights out on the beach after 10pm! read more

We went to 5 beaches on our Spring Break vacation and out of all of them, this was our favorite! It was clean, pretty, chill, dog friendly, not too crowded, and super relaxing! They have a shower to rinse as well as a bathroom. You do have to pay a meter. The walk is not bad especially with the mat they put down. If you are in the area, check out this beach! Last time we were in Hilton Head we went to another beach that was just as great! I wish I remember the name of that one too! read more

Like most of out there, I have been to a few beaches over the years. As a pet (dog) owner, the ability to bring our furry friends with us for a little time at the water is critical to my decision. I have lived all over South Carolina from Myrtle Beach to Charleston to Hilton Head and the dog rules vary, but for the most part, they are dog friendly. Some require a permit,some have hours set aside for dogs, leash rules and such. It is an advantage to have dog friendly beaches in S.C. as there are really no waves, so when you launch a tennis ball out to sea, your faithful pet will retrieve it and come back with no problem of large, submerging waves. FollyField only charges for parking, but as of yet, I have never paid. I have been going off season and there is no parking staff. There are no rules for your dog, other than common sense. The people I have encountered all are friendly and typically vacationers from the many beach side hotels. Which keeps Folly Field more of a beach and less of a dog park. The water is shallow and I went in for a dip as late in the year as a month ago, but I like cold refreshing and water. to go swimming in. So, Folly is not necessarily good for surfers, except wind surfers, however an excellent beach for every other in water or on sand activity. Side Note: I was in NYC a few months back, there are no dog friendly beaches, other than the boardwalk, how unfair is that? read more

This beach was one of the many that my dog and I went to during our "1st Annual Daddy/ Doggy Road Trip". :) As a dog owner, it is a great thing to have options for places to relax on a beach and bring my dog/ dawg. We went on two separate occasions and everyone was so nice and conversational, as dog owners usually are. The beach is also close by to a few places to grab a bite, or take out. I really loved the fact that the showers also had a small washing station for pets. Good call! You'll find spots along the beach that aren't as busy as other beaches on Hilton Head Island, so if you're looking to relax then this is a good option. This beach is also a great crab-spotting location! Crabs are all over the larger rocks and it's fun for kids. Make sure to check for meters on street parking, some meters seem to be hidden. We ended up using this beach on our vacation during the off season as our dog beach. Parking wasn't a problem as it was off season and the weather was kinda gross. That aside we loved it. These are not the white sandy beaches of other beaches but it was clean and our pup loved it! There are bathrooms and showers on the ramp leading to the beach, there was also a soda machine. Most of the other dog owners we met on the beach were great and the dogs had a fantastic time playing with each other. There were also a bunch of bikers but hey it is Hilton Head. I bet I wound't give this beach a 5 star in peak season because I assure you, you won't find a parking space. They were very limited compared to other beaches. Also the rules change for dogs during the peak season. I think they can only be on the beach after 5 or something like that. Oh well during the summer we go to Florida so this is not really a concern for me. I highly recommend this beach to dog owners for off season use! read more
