This year's VegFest was held at the new Red Lion (formerly Radisson) in a few opened banquet rooms across from the beautiful water, including water fountain. The outdoor seating patio was a lovely place to sit out with a tasty vegan bite and enjoy the wonderful summer Sacramento temperatures! Overall, this years VegFest was good. There were several vendors on site from booths with offers for free meditation classes and toiletries to baked goods and fresh fruit. I won't list all the vendors here, but I did attach a picture for your viewing pleasure. Here were my favorites: Kombucha Kulture - If you have never had kombucha, you're missing out! They had some great flavors at this event, I especially enjoyed the turmeric. What a clever idea! Nacheez - This ish tasted like REAL NACHO CHEESE! Granted, it has been years since I've tasted actual nacho cheese, but this stuff was good! So good, I signed up for the cheese making classes! Two Moms Catering - No Oink Chipotle Slider. I don't think I need to say anything else. Kitchen Witch Gourmet - Love Tea #3... sweet, spicy and smooth. Writing this review reminds me that I need to order some. doTERRA - Essential oils I was never really familiar with. This couple explained the idea of how oils found in nature can be used as healing devices. Unfortunately, they were at a veg head convention, so they had a hard time finding folks with health issues. However, I did try their stress oil and felt pretty relaxed afterwards. There were several speakers on stage. Unfortunately, I missed the ever radiant and jovial Chef Brooke from The Green Boheme, but I was able to sit in on Ed Bauer's lecture. Professional trainer and body builder who has been vegan for 18 years. Very insightful stuff. Overall, this was another great VegFest on the books. I would have liked to see a few more samples, but all in all, this was a great event and I am looking forward to next year!

I went. And it was a blast! The tickets are a smidge too expensive normally for me to consider returning next year ($80 advance, $110 otherwise), but I did have a nice time with my bestie, her hubs, and of course my companion DO. The endless drinkies (beer, wine, spirits, cocktails) are I think the best selling point Best of Sac Party has when you look at how much it costs to attend. Most booths will keep supplying you until you're either unconscious or they run out. Best of Sac also allows Sacramentans and various other visitors to hobnob with notable personalities, vendors, and business owners in what I felt was a laidback fashion. There were many folks in attendance that I'm used to seeing on the news channels. Scoring a handroll from Taro himself at the Mikuni booth was one for the memory books. I was able to meet the owner of a winery in Placerville that I've been wanting to visit because my favorite wine guy recently started working there. So why else would people attend this thing? There's the community aspect, the opportunities to donate to various local charities, the complimentary tastes of appetizers and desserts, the art displays, opportunities to shop for holiday gifts, the booze, and also I think it's a good event for people into event or wedding planning. A solid evening was had by all in my party, and I'm thankful I had the opportunity to go. Networking in Sacramento is the way to go! ;-)

Tonight's event was held at the Sacramento Community Center in the heart of down town . After receiving our wine glass and plate we were off to the races. Some of the restaurants here this evening were "Firehouse, Mikuni, Round Table Pizza, Season 52, High Steaks & Red Lantern from Thunder Valley Casino, Fahrenheit 250 BBQ, Crawdads on the River, plus many more! My favorites were Mikuni with their salmon nigiri sushi, Crawdads on the River with their Korean Short ribs and Jambalaya, and Thunder Valley casino with their bacon wrapped shrimp! There was so many wine and beer vendors here tonight! Too many to mention but believe me you won't be disappointed! Non alcoholic beverages was provided by Pepsi Co. Coffee was provided by Starbucks, and Temple Coffee, and San Francisco Gourmet Coffee. Always leave a little room for dessert. Fat Cat Scone, Melting Pot, Brittle California, Leatherbys Family Creamery are just a few of the fabulous dessert vendors here tonight. Entertainment was provided by Hip Service, Blackburn Bullet, and Super Huey/Apple Z. It was fun watching Alex L. working so hard on the Yelp table. Alex working his magic on the prize wheel. Giving away all kinds of Yelp Swag! It was great seeing our Yelp buddy Jenni T. And her husband Ryan! Sorry we missed Alex T, Olivia S. and Bridget. The Best of Sacramento Party is a must party to attend! If you enjoy eating, drinking and dancing all night long, then this is your party! A multitude of vendors supporting healthy living, ways to go green, and all around natural alternatives to most things we take for granted. Yeah, there were hippy dippy things too, including healers, conspiracy theorists, and dealers of all things crystal, but overall this is definitely a fun festival, with lots to see and crafts for purchase. Tons of shade and picnic tables, plenty of eats, including a Mexican stand with all vegan options and amazing fresh lemonade. Yum. I'm making a point to come back next year for sure.

What an awesome event for a great cause! There was music and food every 1/4 mile and a festive atmosphere all around. With so much negativity going around recently, it's nice to get the community together for some fundraising fun! Well done Sacramento!

In fact, a couple years ago, I didn't even know how many miles were in a 5k and I never thought I would be someone to participate in one. However, I promised a good friend of mine that I would find one, train for it and run! When I heard about the Run to Feed the Hungry, I knew this was my race. This was one of the most inspiring events I have participated in! There were soo many people! Families with young children, single people ready to run, elderly people out to support the runners or take a stroll through the beautiful streets of East Sac, dogs (even though the rules said no dogs, but who's really paying attention), and even some crazy guy pushing a double stroller. Really dude?! No way I was letting him beat me to the finish line! Along the way, weaving through people and admiring the perfect weather I saw so many festivities! People with signs cheering us on. Fire pits and home owners handing out cider. Volunteers passing out water and smiles. A church offering apples and umm... restrooms? I even saw an elderly lady sitting in her yard drinking a can of beer! Get it grams! There were bands playing music, people dancing and laughing and having a great time! This was the best way to start a day full of thankfulness! Beautiful weather, wonderful community and all to bring a little joy and food and holiday spirit to those less fortunate! Just another reason to love Sacramento! This is definitely my new Thanksgiving tradition!!! See you next year!

Hmong New Year is meant to celebrate the end of harvesting. Thus, it doesn't fall on a particular date. I was a bit hesitant in the beginning to wear Hmong clothes, but I'm glad I did. I was able to get the full experience. Clothing usually represents the clan you come from. Traditionally, clothes are handmade by grandmothers and mothers, but they can now be bought. Certain Hmong clothes are decorated with silver coins. The elaborate embroidery and flashy coins show how wealthy a girl is. Women also wear heavy pure silver necklaces. The food was an important part of the event for me. I had an order of Hmong sausage with sticky rice ($10). The sausage was really flavorful and I liked dipping it in the hot pepper sauce. My mouth was burning. I also ordered nab vam- Hmong three colored drink that consisted of yellow/ red/ green jelly, syrup, coconut milk, and ice. I wished there was more coconut milk in it. There were a lot of vendors selling stuff, such as traditional clothes, jewelry, DVDs, herbs, etc. There was also a pageant, sports tournaments, dance competitions, and Hmong Idol competitions. I didn't get a chance to see any of it though. I did catch the small parade that consisted of musical instruments being played and pageant girls riding in cars. I learned about a traditional courting game they play- pov pob. Single boys and girls line up across from one another and toss a tennis ball back and forth until someone drops the ball. The one who drops it is supposed to give the other person a piece of their clothing or jewelry. I had a pretty good time. If I didn't come here with my Hmong friend, I would probably give the event 3 stars instead of 4 stars. She helped me learn more about her culture. * $4 entrance fee * Children under 5 and senior who are 65 and older are FREE * $10 parking fee for those that are parking in the Cal-Expo lot.

I actually feel kind of angry about the board of directors and the elected officers because they're ALL MEN. I mean, yes it's true that the organization is ran by the 18 or semi-19 clans. And at the head of those clans are all men. And yes, only men have voting rights within those clans, therefore within the event organization. It's 2009. Today, I find myself asking: Is the Hmong community progressing? Or is it regressing? Other than that, the event is the usual. The old folks go to mingle with their long lost friends. The kids tag along with their grandparents or their parents. The young teens go to eat papaya salad. And the single 20 to 30 year olds... Not sure where they fit. I think that's where the board of directors and officers haven't quite figured out yet.

If I would've known, I would've got different seats. I would've paid a little extra to get them. It was opening night It was super packed. My two boys and I were not able to find bleacher seats at all. There was a moment where I was actually gonna takeoff. Lesson learned for next time I will not get bleacher seats very difficult to find seating during a busy night. And if you do find some they are very tight . Everybody working here was very nice and attentive. We ended up staying my kids were playing in the bouncy house and walking around. There was a moment where I took one of my kids Home came back to watch the fireworks . The fireworks were definitely worth the wait . We all got to go to the field, we sat down on the grass and we had an awesome time watching the fireworks. Overall, we had a good night . We happy to have a baseball team in our home town .
