I was so excited for the Renaissance Faire and got all dressed up with my friends. Initially it was a really cool experience. Everyone is dressed up in character which really helps make you feel immersed. There are loads of actors and performers all around the place, and tons and tons of shopping to be done. We saw the archery show which was....ok. It was cool to see them competing with each other, but it was literally impossible to tell which arrow belonged to who. My suggestion would be to attack a big colorful string or change the color of the arrows to match each contestant. We were left confused as to who was winning the entire time because of it. Nobody was mic'd either so it really was silent in terms of the arena. Next we saw the jousting show which was really fun. Tons of theatrics, horses, fighting, and crowd work! That was a good time. Then we went to walk around and catch some of the smaller shows. The majority of this Faire was just vendors selling things. I love events like the Oddities and Curiosities Expo which bring in tons of vendors showing off stuff I literally have never seen before, and I have a huge impulsive feeling to buy. I didn't get that once at this faire. Sure there was some cool stuff but it really wasn't anything that I felt like I needed to buy. Some soaps, crystals, swords, books, and disgustingly a stall selling AI artwork. Some vendors really did have some cool stuff like handmade clothing that was too far out of my budget, but I would love if I were rich. Lines were insanely long so we didn't eat or drink anything here, but it looked ok in terms of food. I just wish there were some unique vendors here or other things to do like games and events that you can partake in. Overall it's not a place you're going to spend the entire day at, but it's fun to kill a couple of hours in costume. We'll most likely be back next year, I just wish it was a bit more "wow" like others I've seen. read more

So much fun! A lot people dressed up in renaissance, medieval, or fairy tale costumes. Many children were dressed as Disney characters/princesses. I noticed one woman dressed as Guinevere from BBC's Merlin. They give you a flier with the times for jousting and other events. Lines get long for food by noon. We got food at 11:15am and there were short lines. The giant turkey leg was $15. Multiple vendors were selling swords (metal, wooden, and foam). We circled the aisles of vendors before deciding what to buy. One vendor was selling books for $1 each. I found a Peter Pan book in the mix. The Queen made an appearance. Amazing experience and I would go again. read more

I was torn between a 3 and a 4 or seems like every year is the end thing price are higher and entertainment is budgeted. It was a pretty good day.. the parking was neat by however up a very steep hill there was handicap accommodation and accessible areas. I came in and immediately sat found to watch the Joslin fighting. It was hot and someone was screaming near us.. lol we then walked around and realized it was just a circle. There were some interactions but limited it seems like more of buying then entertainment. Food had limited options and long lines in heat. The 30th annual Folsom Renaissance Faire happened last weekend on 9/24 and 9/25. My family and I came on 9/24 to explore the Faire. It hosted many vendors including clothings, hats, and accessories as well as foam weapons and real weapons. They didn't have too many food vendors so the lines were long. They had archery, jousting, story time, "meet the queen" and weapon demonstrations throughout the time we were there. If it isn't too hot next year, we will be back again. read more

So fun! This was mine and my boyfriends first Renaissance fair and we had a great time. We started burning a bit (ginger problems and forgot to pack sunscreen) and April, one of the workers, was very nice to let us borrow some sunscreen after no luck finding any. Would go again, just need to remember bringing sunscreen lol. Very overcrowded though. Got anxious at some points but as the day progresses, more people left and it felt a lot better. The parking filled up so we had to park on the street- no biggie but clearly poorly planned. The layout of the venue made everything extremely crowded and hard to move. We attended this event 8 or 9 years ago and had a good time, so we were expecting the same sort of experience. However, the Faire has become quite popular, but the venue is much too small for the number of people in attendance. We arrived right at 10:00 on Sunday morning. We enjoyed wandering the faire the first hour, seeing the vendors, and admiring all the great costumes people were wearing. We decided to watch one of the stage shows. Although the performer was good and fun to watch, the layout was terrible. The stage was set up so that the audience was facing the sun, with no shade. The performer even jumped off the stage and went to the side area to perform so that we could watch him without staring into the sun. After the stage performance, we went to the arena to watch the archery competition. Although we sat fairly close to the front, we couldn't hear the announcer, so that detracted from our enjoyment of the event. Around 11:00 am, the masses arrived. Long lines for food. Long lines for drink. Lines for the restroom. Crowded walkways. We wanted to see the jousting at 12:30, but were tired of dealing with the crowded conditions, so we left before the jousting started. All in all, we were disappointed with the event, and won't attend next year. read more

Initially had a lot of fun looking at people in costumes and admiring the crafts. Then loved it when we saw the knights fighting front row (right place right time), but left that show early thinking there'd be tons more. Saw a bit of dancing & music from the dueling dames which was nice but very low volume, could hardly hear. Saw a bit of belly dancing which was cool but never caught an actual show. Saw a bit of juggling (daring acts) but due to the outdated schedule on their site and the fact that they'd run out of programs by 1pm, we left that early as well to go look for the archery contest... and went to wait at the jousting arena for 15min before learning from someone with a program that there was nothing there until 330pm... SMH. Anyway, waited around until 330pm for jousting but it was just guys on horses spearing haystacks... and some jerks came and stood in front of us so we couldn't see and i asked them to crouch but nope... Also, the food and drink prices weren't exorbitant but mannn the lines for everything was ridiculously long. I think they needed more vendors. So i wanted something to drink but couldn't find a line w fewer than 20 people ahead. Price: $16pp... not terrible but not sure if worth it. $2pp for online tix. There are ATMs inside and outside. Overall, probably about 1.5hrs of entertainment before we ran out of things to do. And pretty disappointed by how it ended and probably won't be back, at least for a few years. read more

This Faire was fair. I'm used to a large event like the ones I used to go to in Colorado since I've never been to one out here. Aside from that it was a beautiful day and people who were dressed up looked absolutely amazing. There wasn't really much in entertainment but a fair amount of people selling trinkets and swords and what nots of stuff you don't really need but might want lol. The food choices were really good, I was surprised at the amount of options. They of course had the traditional turkey leg and beers. This was actually my daughters first time at an event like this so we felt it was customary to give her a taste. Lol That being said it was the size of her head and she enjoyed it very much lol. Sparce parking and a small faire equals 3 stars. Seriously, I could have been done with this place minus the jousting show in one hour. It's basically and literally walking in a circle. Overpriced souvenirs and overpriced food doesn't help either. And somehow they ran out of a lot of different foods such as the meat pie and eggrolls from what we heard. Lines a mile long and no place to sit. If you have a coupon go, but if not probably not worth the money to come here. read more

Nice little fair. Great costumes, booths, displays, and shows. Favorite was Jousting, Falconry, and Juggling. Also, the food was great. I had a Scotch Egg and really liked it. My girlfriend enjoyed the jewelry and masks and other art. Closes at 6pm. Parking a little challenging. This year (2019) weather cooperated very nicely. Veteran and Military tickets available online. Our first time here. A bit small which is probably a good thing. Lots of vendors, not too many food choices especially if you're trying to eat fruits and vegetables. One of the food booths ran out of everything except sausages by 3pm. One choice of beer - Newcastle. The jousting show was fun. Watched some singers, they were good. Liked the Falconry section. As for Festivals go, this is very cookie-cutter. It's the same vendors and shows every year. The BIGGEST problem is the faire's decision to use the park's homeless population as parking lot security. - LOCK YOUR CARS! AND DON'T LEAVE ANYTHING OF VALUE VISIBLE! Inside Actors Camp (afterhours) the Hobos would come into our camp circle without invitation, they we're saying things and demanding alcohol that made my group feel very uncomfortable. I would HIGHLY recommended to find another / safer event to take your family to. - There is also another Renaissance Faire going on at the same time of this event in Hollister that's way bigger and more amazing. read more

I am torn between a 2 and a 3. Once we get in, I understand that there will be ample opportunities for learning cool stuff and for vendors to peddle their cheap wares for money. Fine..... Overall, not too bad. I enjoy the live acts, but I wish there were more "historical opportunities" as opposed to quick money making ones. I enjoyed playing medieval Jenga with my Goddaughter (I was the Jester, she was the Plague Doctor, if anyone saw us). The Falcon on my shoulder was a nice photo op, but again, everything else essentially cost money. Now then, why round down? We all know we're going to spend money, right? So why the holy heck does it cost money to come in to spend money? To me, it is almost equal to Roseville Galleria charging a $5 entrance just to shop or go to the food court. A fairly fun day, and an excuse for me to cosplay with my kickass 12 year old Goddaughter, but I still don't understand why I have to pay around $24 (plus parking) to spend more money. May forgo this next year, unless they either add more "free" stuff, or take away the entrance fee read more

So you like to dress up in your Game of Thrones or LOTR costume on a regular basis for fun you say? Well isn't the Renaissance festival where you go so that you can let your inner elf flag fly? Well the Folsom Renaissance Festival will be great for you. If you have never been to another renaissance festival anywhere else. Ah yes and don't show up with expectations at all either because they will be crushed. Okay okay so what's the real deal with this place? Well..... Lets start with if you don't buy your tickets online you'll be standing in line as long as that mythical dragon while the one window tries to sell tickets. (I'm pretty sure they run credit cards with carrier pigeons too!) Then walk through the plywood castle gate to a land of way too many people crammed into way to small a space. In it you will find many a vendor and each one of them accepts a different form of payment. The paths are narrow and the crowd is thick so don't expect a leisurely stroll here. I've never been to a Ren festival this sad before. It it pretty much a bunch of pop up tents and vendors dressed in period clothes. I guess if you have never been to a real one before you wouldn't know the difference though. Normally these things run multiple weekends, but not this one they cram it into one weekend. Which is why this thing is crammed full of people. There are little to no sets or anything. Granted the 6 or 7 Ren fests I have been to were either permanent structures year round that opened for the month or two it ran or just bigger all together but this was just sad. There is no consistency between what the different vendors accept aside from cash so if you didn't bring your Visa, MC, Discover,and Amex you're up a creek.Oh you'll just use an ATM and get cash? Well there is only one outside the gates so you have to go back to get it. This thing what little organization it has is poor and it is well......... just sad. They fooled me once with $40 bucks worth of tickets, but that won't happen again. My advice? Go to San Fran for their festival at least it is put together correctly and you're not wasting money. read more

I went to the Folsom Renaissance Faire for the first time this past October (2015) and thought it was great. Very well put together. I used to go to the big faire in Natomas many years ago and per square foot, this one had just as many if not more active events going on... royal dancing at the Queen's court, music, art, stage performances, and best of all and, I think, unique to the Folsom Faire, is the equestrian arena; hours of horse shows and knights in armor jousting. Yes this is only one weekend. It's not the Bay Area. If you don't want to spend time in long lines at the box office (which I've done at the big faires), then get your tickets online. Pretty simple.... and way less expensive then the larger faires. Be sure to come in costume and be part of the scene! read more

Not worth much . The seasoned renaissance fair enthusiast wont get much out of this and the casual one wont either. The line is long, prices are high, and for whatever reason they crammed everything into one walkway. The joust is phoned-in by the guys that ride at half trot that hit each other with paper swords that explode like confetti when they barely graze each other. About ten minutes of "ARE YOU READY??? I CANT HEAR YOU???, then after a blink of an eye the joust is done and youre on your way. Everything else there is just concession stands, no real entertainment. I would go to the Scottish Games in Woodland once a year over this. read more
