I've trained in MMA for years and have been a member of pro-level gyms, owned by very reputable…read moretrainers. Without question, this was one of the worst gym experiences I've had. The problems started immediately. Most reputable MMA/BJJ gyms offer a free first class or trial so people can experience the coaching, atmosphere, and culture before deciding whether they want to join. This gym charges for the trial. On top of that, there is an additional credit card processing fee when paying electronically, and that fee was not clearly disclosed upfront. After paying for the trial, I wanted to come back occasionally as a drop-in. I already have another gym where I train regularly, so I wasn't looking for another membership. I simply wanted the option to train here occasionally. Apparently, that was a problem. They do not offer a drop-in option (not even mentioned clearly on their website), and instead of simply explaining their policy, the interaction became unnecessarily difficult and confrontational. I felt like I was being pressured into purchasing a monthly membership rather than being treated like a fellow practitioner who wanted to train. What bothered me most was the attitude. The communication was poor, the customer service was disappointing, and the overall experience made me feel completely unwelcome. There was no attempt to find a reasonable solution or even have a normal, professional conversation about their policy. I've trained at enough gyms to know that drop-ins are extremely common in the MMA/BJJ community. If a gym chooses not to allow drop-ins, that's their right--but there is absolutely no reason to treat someone poorly for asking. For me, the combination of charging for the trial, the undisclosed processing fee, the lack of a drop-in option, and the attitude of the staff made this a negative experience. There are plenty of other gyms where you can train, meet people, and be treated with respect. Based on my experience, I would avoid this place and take my skills elsewhere.

The new facility is HUGE, a definite upgrade over the old place. Not only is there more mat space but a weights area and heavy bags. More than one classes can run at the same time which means a larger variety of classes, more advanced level Jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai and even two dedicated MMA classes a week. What has NOT changed is the quality of instruction, the friendly, laid back atmosphere and it's competition focus. All of the instructors there are really laid back-there are no formalities here, which makes it really easy to ask them for help with techniques or questions about how to do moves. Walk up to anyone for help or even some practice and they'll be more than happy to do so. A couple months ago, Mark the head instructor said it best: "this isn't a business, it's a family." You can tell from the beginning that this isn't just a school to just learn but a place where people come together to share a common interest, almost like a clubhouse. While I like the new facility and the space what I'm going to miss most is the people I get to see week after week.
