For 1, the woman greeted me, she took care with my items, pushing everything down the conveyor belt, and wrapping my meat in plastic. I was absolute amazed! Then as she handed me the receipt she let me know I have a coupon & when it expires, and offered a farewell. This may seem trivial, but actually it's not, and makes the experience stand head & shoulders above the rest. Wish I would've gotten her name.

The prepared foods section is genuinely really food here, with a lot of solid options that make it easy to grab a quick meal. It can get really overwhelming and crowded during peak hours, but even then it's still fairly easy to shop because everything is well organized and clearly laid out. Overall, it's a reliable spot for groceries, especially if you go at the right time and know what you're looking for.

They eliminated delivery service a few years back and as a result, it prevents me from buying as much as I'd like. I can have groceries delivered via Amazon but I prefer shopping in person myself. I particularly like their seafood department as well as the cheese and produce. The nitpick would be that it sits on top the Gowanus Canal which is a cesspool of polluted water and carcinogens. 5 stars for everything else.

They have a lot of items that I cannot find where I live/shop in Midwood, Sheepshead , Coney Island area. I will say I purchased tasty cakes on sale two for one and they expired the next day. I'm guessing that's why they were so cheap. As I know that doesn't violate any laws.. I thought their prices were overall lower than what I see at Stop & Shop on Avenue Y and even ShopRite on Avenue I and McDonald. ShopRite used to be so affordable. Now it's like Aldi or Amazon fresh for good prices. But I remember being very happy at city fresh market.. everyone was nice to me. I also noticed a lot of people working.. I don't know what was going on in the front with a different other businesses. I saw people commenting about that.. It's really only in one area, though it didn't bother me.. first of all the places pretty darn big. I couldn't get over the bakery & deli section. Also a great selection of drinks.. The tres leche is amazing and it's & $3.50 cheaper than any of the Turkish or Russian bakeries that I've been going to for years. Lastly, I wanna say that when I was younger supermarkets, such as Waldbaums and Pathmark would have other items in the front. There was a lawnmower section, and a whole section ppl could rent steam cleaners for your carpet or upholstery. So that's not a ridiculous concept.. been to city fresh about seven times in the last year and it has never let me down. I look forward to going next week when I have my next dentist appointment.:)

I don't know what took me so long to get over there. Well actually, I do know. It's not at all near a subway station, which is kind of a PITA. But, despite that, it's a great store! Some aspects of the store that I like a little better than the Manhattan store: at the Brooklyn store, you can do all the shopping on one level. Manhattan/Astor Place store has some items (as well as customer checkout) on upper level, but you do most of the shopping on the lower level. The Brooklyn stores has restrooms (and a cafe space) upstairs, but the restroom situation is much more convenient - I haven't had any kind of wait at all. At the Manhattan store you're likely to be waiting for several minutes for a stall to become available. Both stores have a fabulous, very tempting bakery section, great cheese selection (and the employees seem really nice), great produce, etc. It may be a little harder to find things in the aisles at the Brooklyn store but that's probably also because it's a very large store and I'm still getting the lay of the land there. Again, I do wish there was a train station closer, but that's not the store 's fault and I've been exploring different options, including walking 12-13 minutes from a train station (York Street), buses (the B69 goes near there as well as some other bus lines), and/or short Uber rides to train stations if I have too much to carry. Going forward I'll probably be utilizing both stores as each has their own advantages!

Food World opens at 7:00 AM, however, DO NOT GO there when it opens instead go when it is extremely crowded later in the afternoon and no assistance can be provided. Why you ask? - On August 27, 2025 at 7:01 AM, when we entered Food World located at 4209 Avenue D, Brooklyn, New York 11203, a "so-called" manager described as M/A/medium - large build/short height/spoke with an accent was standing and facing the produce area as soon as you enter Food World. After greeting this "manager", he responded with, "Why are you here so early? There is no one here!" This "manager" begrudgingly and caustically entered Food World's meat department, grabbed a knife to cut an end of weighed produce for purchasing, and REFUSED to cut the opposite end of our produce because this "manager" said, "This is cheap enough? I (Food World) have to get something! I am not cutting it (the weighed produce) again!" For years, we have shopped at the Pathmark Supermarket on Albany Avenue in Brooklyn, New York less than five blocks away and NEVER experienced such rude, disrespectful, lack of courtesy towards customers, and down right discontent towards customers taking advantage of a food supermarket opening early in the morning. Lesson learned by going to Food World located on Avenue in Brooklyn, New York - TRY NOT TO GO BACK!!

Made the mistake not requesting a receipt so my credit card company wouldn't help me dispute the amount and encouraged me to sort it out with the merchant. When I went in today the same guy was there and he became completely defensive, bordering on contemptuous, blaming the credit card company. He pulled out a bunch of receipts to "prove" to me that there was no charge for that amount but he didn't produce the receipt from the said transaction. Shady as all hell. Avoid at all costs.
