The volunteers are very dedicated and helpful in accepting the donations and distributing them to those in need here in the community. The group is respectful towards those they serve, even referring to them as customers - allowing those in need the dignity they deserve. Donating items is quick, easy and efficient. The volunteers are kind and full of good cheer. ECHO will also advertise the specific items on their billboard so you can see what items are most in need. ECHO can't accept everything but they can recommend other organizations that accept furniture, perishable food or other items for donations. You can feel good that your donated items will go to those who can truly use them.

It's a cooperative effort of the Town of Haymarket, St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Mission, and St. Paul's Anglican Church. Volunteers staff and run the program. Their mission and vision statements are below: Mission statement: The Mission of the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry is to eliminate hunger in our community and surrounding areas by acquiring and distributing food to those who seek aid. We will accomplish this mission by educating, empowering and enlightening the community about the issues of hunger and nutrition Vision: We envision a community in which everyone has access to sufficient, nutritious food. I became aware of this organization recently. So when I am out grocery shopping at Giant Food, I watch for good deals on things like canned goods - where I can buy a couple of cases of canned non-perishable items - such as vegetables, soups, fruits, pasta dishes, etc., to take over and donate to the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry. I think it's important as a community to help out those in our community that are struggling and less fortunate. This is one small way I can help out. They try to keep it as clean as possible and find people jobs - they even have job listings that felons can work at. Really easy volunteer process if you're looking for a place to go. The Lamb Center used to be at the circle, but this newer location offers more services. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and Christmas will soon be here. Please consider volunteering here, or at least dropping by food, non prescription medications, or other items of need. This area has a real high cost of living. Before you think "not in my backyard," yes it is. We have a considerable amount of people, who simply can't afford a rent or a mortgage. Many of the homeless or vulnerable, whom are helped by this center, are often employed. Is mental illness and substance abuse factors? Of course. Yet Dave and his staff here don't judge people. They help to uplift them. There have been many success stories here. Alcohol and drug abuse classes are regularly held here. Also the staff helps people better themselves, and increase the chances of full time work. All are welcome here, regardless of faith or none. What matters is the humanity. Here it exists everyday. By all means spend time here, and you will find this truly special. All people deserve a meal and warm clothes, as everyone is one paycheck away.

Lori & Joan are two elderly ladies who are the lunch volunteers are VERY unkind and do not embody Christian values or the Lamb Center. It is so sad that they both are so rude to the poor and homeless people, who deserve to be treated with dignity and respect which they do NOT. They both continue to be abusive to the homeless people, and it's unacceptable. Upper management has been notified several times of their abusive behavior, please do not allow Lori or Joan to volunteer again.

I think it's pretty safe to say it's a one of a kind (if not the only) non-profit organization / facility that allows you to drop off your child(ren) with special needs, for a day or two on the weekend to allow the parents some time of respite. Absolutely love their mission and the fact that they care specifically for an otherwise marginalized population. They have three "lodges" each with 10 rooms (half singles, half doubles), outdoor playground, pool, indoor gymnasium, chapel, a variety of rooms for computers, music, arts & crafts, sensory stimulation and quite rooms. And practically everything has a theme. It really does look like a kids' paradise...and hopefully it will be. You'll need to register on their website to utilize their services.

Unconditional love…read more As cheesy as it may sound, this place oozes unconditional love for children with special needs. From the carefully thought-out interior decor to the doting, compassionate staff, Jill's House is one of the most tangible manifestations of love for a group of children often overlooked by the general public. Jill's House is an overnight respite home for special-needs children. For the kids, it's like a fun sleepover - there's a music room with musical instruments, sing-a-long DVDs, and space to dance, a technology room with touch-screen computers, an art room, a gym, an indoor pool, a playground, and nature-themed "pods" with more games, puzzles, toys, video games, and even a movie screen (tell me you didn't have to take a breath in between reading that list). For the hard-working parents (for whom I have such great respect and admiration), it's a chance for them to have a night to themselves. Furthermore, Jill's House is an incredibly safe place for these children. The intake coordinators are very detailed in recording each individual child's diet restrictions, medical concerns, and methods of communication. They also make sure to give the parents (and the child) a tour of the facility beforehand. The intake coordinators, then, propagate all of this information to the staff who work directly with the children. Now, the staff are a group of people who are not only efficient caretakers, but are also genuinely loving people. It's apparent that the children quickly form bonds with the staff and recognize them when they return. It's heartwarming to witness. I could go on and on, but (as another review has pointed out) it might be easier to just visit the website or call. Ultimately, this facility houses an amazing group of workers and a precious group of kids.
