Pros: prices were fair and it's next to a decent Mexican restaurant called Ranchero Viejo. The Osaka restaurant I heard bad things about from the locals so I did not go there. Cons: So much of the food was rotten, store was absolutely filthy, the employees were unprofessional and rude, and bathroom was gross. It was very obvious that the locals do not like tourists which is a shame because tourism brings money to the community. I could not get over how dirty the place was. We were not comfortable buying meat because if the staff cares so little about the stores cleanliness what are the chances that they care about food safety? Pay a little extra money and shop somewhere else. read more

This Food Lion has the most extreme, minimal selection I have ever seen at a grocery store. And it's too bad because it's the only grocery store for miles and miles. Hey manager, expand your inventory and be a real grocery store please! read more

Food Lion makes me appreciate ALL the grocery stores I have near my home. I understand that I am probably spoiled with having Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Mariano's, and other stores of equivalent status. The vegetables and produce alone at Food Lion made me wish I had stocked up on the way down. All other areas are lacking, as well. I would rather do my grocery shopping at a Target, or dare I say...Wal-Mart. Crap, I said it. Keep in mind that Cherokee is a dry county, which means you cannot buy any alcohol in their town. The Harrah's Casino is the only exception, but it's not like you can walk into the casino and order a bottle of wine or a 6-pack to go. They also have money orders available, but it may take them ten minutes to notice you waiting, even with people working at the desk. After ten minutes of not being acknowledged, I finally spoke up and asked if I could be helped. Everyone here seems to be in La La Land (yes, it's a place), staff and patrons. Children climb and hang like monkeys throughout the check-out aisles. Food Lion needs help...lots of it. read more

This is THE most depressing grocery store I've ever been in - PERIOD! At one time, when you'd walk through the door, cashiers would yell, in an almost manic way, "WELCOME TO FOOD LION!". It was simply bizarre. I have never been "greeted" like that in any establishment. Thankfully, that haven't been in that practice for about a year or so now, but I would cringe every time I'd walk through the door and I'd try to hurry past the registers to avoid this bizarre ritual. This is about as dirty a grocery store as I've ever seen. The floors are usually filthy. Parents don't supervise their children here and a lot of time that results in food being opened, partially eaten and left in the aisles for other shoppers to discover. Everything is sad in this store. The produce section is an absolute joke, the meat counter is understocked and the quality of the beef is a joke. They also managed to find the most apathetic, lazy and shiftless people to run the registers in this store. They act like they're doing you a favor by ringing up your groceries. I have had cashiers text on their phone during our transaction, use profanity and carry on conversations with other employees as though I wasn't even there. Rude doesn't being to approach the appalling lack of customer service exhibited by the great majority of employees in this store. Another pet peeve of mine is that many of the employees may be found congregating outside on the benches, in their uniforms, smoking during breaks. That doesn't look good and it's disgusting to make patrons walk through their cloud of smoke to enter the store. I can only imagine that none of them return from their smoke breaks and wash their hands. I only stop here if I absolutely have to. This store is disgusting! read more

I went to this Food Lion in Cherokee, NC. I was hoping to be disappointed based on these prior poor reviews. It was great! Not depressing at all. Not disappointing at all. It has groceries, toiletries and other essentials. Go to this Food Lion! You will not regret it. read more
