That's a mistake because, like me, you'll get addicted to the stuff. It's AWESOME. I picked up this tub of their "hot" at Priddy's General Store in Danbury. No mistake, it was excellent. I have a toaster in my RV and this stuff on a piece of toast was delicious. Creamy, a little spicy, a lot cheesy. I'll be on the lookout for it, for sure! We were lucky enough to meet Lee, the current owner and a direct descendant of the original founder. He generously shared stories about the store's history, from when it housed the second freezer in North Carolina (the first was in Kinston!) to the days when families rented freezer space because most homes didn't have one. One of the coolest details? The original fireproof cases behind the counter, where customers' monthly account slips were once kept. Lee has even saved some of those old papers--tangible pieces of history you don't often find in a working grocery today. Along with the history, the service was outstanding. Lee was kind and welcoming, and Howie, a young employee, went out of his way to be friendly and helpful. That personal touch makes all the difference. Of course, you can't leave without trying their famous homemade specialties. We picked up some of their pimento cheese, chili and cucumber salad--they were absolutely delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. The store also has a small meat counter and coolers stocked with local favorites. Conrad & Hinkle isn't just a grocery store--it's an experience. Whether you're a Lexington local or just passing through, make time to stop in. You'll get a taste of history, hospitality, and some of the best Southern specialties around. Highly recommended!
