Been a fan of Food Network since I was little, it's honestly one of those channels that never gets old. Chopped has always been a favorite of mine, along with all the competitive chef cook offs and Giada's cooking shows. There's just something about watching talented chefs think on their feet and create amazing dishes under pressure that pulls you in every time. In my early 20s, it was definitely my go to. Whether I was relaxing, looking for inspiration, or just had it on in the background while cooking, Food Network was always playing. It actually helped me grow in the kitchen...learning new techniques, flavor combinations, and getting creative with what I had on hand. I also love the variety of shows they offer. From high level competitions to simple, everyday recipes, there's something for everyone no matter your skill level. It's not just entertaining, it's motivating...especially if you love food or work in the culinary world. Even now, I still find myself tuning in. It's one of those feel-good channels that mixes entertainment, education, and creativity all in one. read more

I like the Food Network! I still enjoy "Diner's, Drive-ins, and Dives," to just unwind and enjoy some non-cerebral entertainment. I do wish the Food Network would reduce (or better yet eliminate entirely) the amount of "competition" shows and game shows. I've been pleased with most Food Network branded products I have bought over the years and have enjoyed most of the Food Network books I have purchased, especially "The Food Network Test Kitchen Cookbook!" I loved Chef Robert Irvine's "Restaurant Impossible," and "Dinner Impossible" and was absolutely elated when Restaurant Impossible made over a restaurant in my county called "The Main Dish." We couldn't wait to visit the restaurant after the makeover and it was really good, especially for the small town it was located in, Meridianville, Alabama. Other chefs I enjoy are Ree Drummond, Ina Garten, and I like some of Giada De Laurnetiiis' recipes. Who can forget Food Network's sister channel, "The Cooking Channel" that airs/aired fun shows like "Bitchin Kitchen" with Nadia G., "Extra Virgin" with Debi Mazar, and my favorite, Bobby Deen's "Not My Mama's Meal." Recently you changed how you get a shows recipes. Now when I click on "recipes" from a show I watched, it doesn't give you the recipes from the show. You instead get a profile of the chef. Also there are weekend mornings that you only have 3 different chefs on shows. This is so boring! This has become repetitious chefs and the food competition network. Being an IC does not make you the better host. Bring back the team, they bring out the best in Goefrey and Alex. Let me start by saying that I openly acknowledge that I watch way too much of "The Food Network." As someone who is extremely passionate about cooking, it makes complete sense to me that cooking is not only a task, but that we can turn cooking into a form of entertainment. I first discovered "The Food Network" over twenty years ago, back when Emeril was the king of the channel and excited the crowd with his tag line of "Bam!" These days there are multiple stars to keep us entertained. One of my current favorites of the new wave of celebrity chefs is Bobby Flay. The man is truly a talented and creative chef. I also enjoy "Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives," in fact it is on the television as I draft this review. I must say I wish that they would cut back on the cooking contests and concentrate on chefs creating incredible dishes instead of some of these inane cooking shows, but after the success of "Iron Chef," the channel looked at that as their new direction. If you love cooking and/or food, "The Food Network" is something you should definitely check out. read more

The Manhattan location of the Food Network is a fun place to visit. If you plan to vacation in NYC and love this Channel you should plan ahead for a visit. For someone that doesn't like to cook I've always spent a lot of time watching the Food Network. I remember Enjoying the Iron Chef Show and Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. Whatever happened to Ace of Cakes (the Charm City Cakes Show) with Duff Goldman in Baltimore? I loved that show. I can't even remember the names of all the shows I've loved over the years. A formerly great concept ruined by an exploding commercial load that now consumes nearly 25 minutes of every hour. By the time they beat an egg, it's on to the next pod of advertising. For the time being, I'll be kind and not mention their brain curdling programming shift from actual chefs in the kitchen to mindless psuedo-celebrity pablum. I have absolutely zero interest in watching the tragically inept stumble around the kitchen for cash and prizes no matter how perverse the proceedings become. Their owners at Discovery Networks aren't dumb and must realize with an arsenal of commercial avoidance technology at audience fingertips there's literally no reason to subject ourselves to their ad sales inspired carpet bombing and lowest common denominator filler. The network's all consuming greed and lack of imagination have rendered a former favorite all but unwatchable. Time to take my battered attention span elsewhere... maybe next week they'll have Kim Kardashian stick her head into a microwave. We can only hope. read more

I used to watch a lot of Food Network around 2012-2014. My favorite shows to watch were Chopped and Restaurant: Impossible. I also watched a little bit of Cutthroat Kitchen, hosted by Atlanta's Alton Brown, and made it a point to see season 12 of Top Chef because Ron Eyester was a contestant and Hugh Acheson was a judge (both also from Atlanta). After that, I sort of got burned out and tired of the channel. All of the programming got repetitive. It just seems to be the same thing over and over. Food Network became, and admittedly still is to me, one of those channels that I'd sometimes play in the background and pay not much attention to. At least the food looks pretty. And it's a good thing I actually tune into this channel at all unlike 99% of the other channels in my cable package. Late last year (2016), I, along with dozens of other Atlanta area Yelpers, received private messages from a casting director looking for Yelpers to cast in a new Yelp-authorized TV show on the Food Network. Details were murky. We weren't sure if these messages were even legitimate, but they were. A supposed working title for this project, "12 Hungry Yelpers," had floated around the Internet for the better part of a year. The production company, ITV, was filming episodes for this project in Atlanta. I replied to the casting director, had a Google Hangouts video interview with her, and was selected to be on the show. The filming dates were January 5 and 6, 2017 at an undisclosed location. The folks who ran this production really kept us in the dark. I was really curious how Yelpers would be portrayed on the show. In the back of my mind, I thought we would be okay since I didn't think Yelp would ever greenlight a show on the Food Network that portrays Yelpers or the Yelp brand in a negative light. However, a part of me was legitimately concerned, especially after I signed a release which essentially allowed the producers to portray us any way they pleased. We were given a meeting address which turned out to be a shopping center in Kennesaw, a suburb about 25-30 miles northwest of Atlanta. I checked out the address on Google Maps and correctly guessed the restaurant we would be filming at: Barbecue Street. The Yelp reviews for the restaurant weren't stellar at the time (and I'm not sure they've improved much since). Most of our time during the filming days was spent waiting around until the production crew was ready to film us. There was a group of seven of us on the first and second days of filming. On the first day, our group was split into smaller groups and sent into the restaurant to dine at different times. Our mission: To eat and comment on the food and service using hidden mics, earbuds, and cameras. The restaurant was well aware they were being filmed for a Food Network project, but they didn't know what kind of project (at least, that was my understanding when I asked one of the restaurant's managers). On the second day, our group had a face-to-face meeting with the restaurant owners and the show's host, Monti Carlo. Individually, we read our reviews to the owners and Monti. Everything was on camera from the moment we walked through the restaurant's doors. It got emotional. If you've seen the episode, you know what I mean. That was that and we were let go. We were compensated by the production company. At that point in time, the title of the show and the air date were still unknown. Monti, acting as a restaurant consultant, used our criticisms as a way to help the restaurant owners recognize their problems and initiated changes to help them improve. Then, on the third and final day of filming, a second and different group of Yelpers came in, under hidden cameras again, and commented on the presumably improved food. They had more positive things to say. The show title was announced a couple months later: Help My Yelp. The purpose of the show is to help turn around struggling local restaurants through feedback from Yelpers and advice from Monti Carlo. It's a short (30 minutes), fun, funny, and positive show that I think is a win-win for everyone involved: Monti, Yelp, Yelpers, and the restaurants featured. I love The Kitchen with the dream team. They are so great at putting together their dishes. They work very well together. I love the Food Network and watch it all day and night. I stayed watching when Emeril Lagasse was on. Then I went to a cooking show in Vegas with Emeril, and when the cameras went off, Emeril was so rude and wouldn't speak yo anyone, so I was done with him, never watching again. Oh Yeah, I'm a fan! I know how to cook and I hear I do it well, however, every cook gets stuck in a rut and therefore the T.V. Food network gives you great and new ideas. I turn it on a lot of times, just because it is entertaining! I have some new favorite recipes, thanks to Ina Gartin ( the Barefoot Contessa ), Paula Deen, Michael Chiarello, Bobby Flay, Tyler Florence and Mario Batelli. I could throw something at the T.V. when Sandra Lee comes on, who is she teaching? First graders? I turn off the tube or change the channel just so I do not have to listen to her. I also hate some of my favorites not having new episodes, so instead they continue showing the same old, same old. These last two reasons is why 4 and not 5 stars. At what point did cooking become cool? When I landed my first job in a kitchen, it certainly wasn't the glorified profession we see in TV shows today. Working as a cook at that time usually served as the last stop for misfits and scoundrels. A haven for those who didn't cut it in normal society. We certainly were never approached by the Food Network to entertain the masses, nor had it ever dawned on us that we could've possessed the skills to do so. Yet in some strange way, it seems as if chefs have become the new porn star. Chefs in the kitchens I used to work occasionally got blow jobs from sympathetic waitresses. Many of them dabbled in heavy narcotics. We lived our lives while the rest of society slept, but only after servicing our customers first of course. Today, there's massive arousal over intricately photographed meat printed on paper, bound and sold as a cookbook and even labeled: "food porn". I can kind of see the correlation. I highly doubt Giada De Laurentiis, Nigella Lawson and Sandra Lee could cut it in a professional kitchen though. Instead, they sell sex... disguised as food. It's a brilliant concept, really. Giada, hunched over her Chicken Tetrazzini, I swear I saw a nipple one time. Nigella, seducing the audience into a pork-fat submission. The Neely's, God bless them, with no shame at all practically making love during each episode. The heartbeats of housewives race each time the red-locked Bobby Flay challenges another unsuspecting soul to a "throwdown". In the fetish crowd, there's the raspy voiced Rachael Ray, for the gay and bi crowd, there's Brian Boitano and Cat Cora, for the Ed Hardy crowd, there's Anne Burrell or Guy Fieri. For those sick, twisted bastards with Mommy issues, there's Ina Garten or Paula Deen. Do I really need to go on, people?! Perhaps this isn't such a bad thing. Perhaps substituting sexual depravity with food is safer for society? Whatever the reason, the Food Network at best has inspired a nation of lazy people to at least attempt to cook for themselves. At the very worst, they've created a huge misconception as to who is really cooking your meals behind the kitchen doors. read more

I'll admit that I would not have thought to review a TV network except after watching the first episode of Help My Yelp, which was beyond disappointing. In the interests of full disclosure, I am friends with several of the Yelpers who participated in that show. But after giving it some thought, I realize that Help My Yelp is symptomatic of a general trend among TV networks and Food Network in particular: the shift to adversarial, 'reality' programming in lieu of content-based, informative shows. Networks such as Discovery, Travel, HGTV and others have drifted away from shows catered to true enthusiasts wanting information about their passions, be it cooking, woodworking, hiking or whatever. Now, it's about drama. It's about competition. About the only competition-based cooking show I thought worthwhile was Iron Chef, and to a slightly lesser extent, Iron Chef America. I enjoyed seeing actual chefs - not random contestants - display their skills in preparing dishes and coordinating a kitchen. It's good that Iron Chef/Iron Chef America remains on FN programming. I blame it all on Survivor. As far as Food Network itself, I'd much rather see Alton Brown use and explain food science while creating a dish than see another Bobby Flay throwdown, or even worse, watch The Next Food Network Star or Chopped. As for Help My Yelp, I was disappointed for two reasons. First, despite the premise, there really wasn't much attention given to the Yelpers' input. They got very little air time. In fact, the opinion of the one Yelper who almost inarguably had the best Yelp credentials wasn't even shown. No, it was mostly about the show's host, Monti Carlo, and her opinions, her ideas. Second, although I understand Ms Carlo is a really nice person to work with, on the show she comes off as arrogant and mean. She belittles the restaurant owners, including to their face. It was embarrassing and a little hard to watch. 'Barbeque Bootcamp' for restauranteurs who have been in business for decades? Lecturing them on the benefits using cornmeal with their catfish as if they'd never heard of it when that's what they've been using all along? Sorry, they deserve a little more respect than that. BTW, if you go to the restaurant's Facebook page, you'll learn that they decided to go back to preparing their catfish how they'd been doing it for years rather than use Carlo's 'improvements'. So, yeah. This review of Food Network is mostly about Help My Yelp. But then, this is a Yelp review. read more

Like an Indians game, you make good background noise while i'm trying to do stuff or fall asleep. With a few exceptions... Ace of Cakes has got to be, hands down, the worst show on television. I'd rather watch CSPAN, NASCAR or even NBC. This show about Baltimore hipsters(strike one) whose every nuance amuses themselves is God awful. Every episode focuses on a stupid theme(strike two) for a cake. Lots of research(hijinx) goes into constructing this flour behemoth. But every cake ends up looking like something from Dairy Queen with an operational helicopter lodged in the middle of it. Then they drive it to a movie premiere or whatever and all the people feign utter delight at the sight of this icing spackled science project(three). Cancel it now! Another winner is Best Thing I Ever Ate. Watching celeb chefs drool over deep fried Twinkies like they were a prime rib is so phony. Michael Symon(he of the mental patient looks and laugh) swoons over $5 guacamole, meanwhile at his restaurant he wraps prosciutto around a toenail and sells it to you for $30. It's just really obnoxious and disingenuous. Other than that, i don't mind most of the shows. Even greasetrap Guy Fieri doesn't make me want to turn it off. Though his crusty frosted hair that probably smells like bacon does make me want to take a shower. Giada is a BABE. Can't cook to save her life, but whatever. Seriously, Caprese salad? It's sliced cheese and tomatoes. Try interning at a Steak n Shake and we'll talk. Actually, i do hate all the cooking competitions that humiliate contestants. That's a symptom of all television, not just Food. UnWrapped is a half hour commercial for fast food and candy companies, but i like when they show something from Cleveland. I absolutely abhor their process for choosing a 'next food network star' - first off, they have three mentor judges that I cannot stand: Giada De Laurentiis, Alton Brown and Bobby Flay. All three of these chef/ judges are a little too big for their boots and it is my perception that they kick off the best contestants early and keep the crappy ones because these three losers want to keep their crowns at the Food Network - can't let a shining real star eclipse them! All of the next food 'stars' have sizzled into dwarf stars and I can't remember them! As for their 'star' programming- complete crap! This network focuses on the personality of the cook/chef way too much and not the food. This was evidenced when they developed the program 'The Next Food Network Star' because the network bigwigs are constantly pestering the candidates to develop a gimmic such as ' the Pie Man' or ' the Sin Man or Cuilinary Pleasure Man' and then they need to peddle this as their identity because the 'bigwigs' think we as an audience are too stupid to connect with them otherwise. The process of cooking and the dish just cannot stand on it's own with this network. Some of the chefs/shows should be investigated for contravention of Health Legislation are Guy Fieri: this chef is despicable when it comes to hygiene! I have seen him wearing jewelery (rings on his fingers) and he will use his hands to mix salads, etc., and he does not take the rings off! Jewelery is known to be a harbourage of contaminants, not to mention the skin underneath the rings. There are several Food Network programs with Guy Fieri preparing food and he is an absolute pig. The Food Network is subsequently teaching the public that it is okay to wear a contaminant on your hand and then shove your bare hands into ready to eat foods. Shame on you Food Network: You should be charged with Health violations as should Guy Fieri! Rachel Ray is another pig! She does not wash her hands when she prepares raw chicken, then she will prepare a ready to eat food such as a salad, where she will then transfer all of the salmonella and campylobacter bacteria onto the salad. I just cannot believe how culpable the Food Network is in relating very bad practices such as transmitting contamination by their programs/chefs and it is because the chefs are either pigs or because the Food Network is doing this due to time constraints but this is one step that you do not cut. When you are showing a very bad practice such as cross contamination and illustrating it as if it is okay, well guess what? Thousands of people die every year from food borne illness and that is not okay! The only chef that I have ever seen flip out over cross contamination issues was Gordon Ramsey on his show (not on the Food Network) Hell's Kitchen, he chewed the ass off his chef contestants - the chefs on Hell's Kitchen that did exactly the same practices that many of the the Food Network Stars practice daily! The Food Network does not have any chefs that I enjoy watching - I boycott this network because their programming philosophy and business acumen sucks! If I want to learn how to really cook without the ego, I Tune into PBS' Lidia Bastianich, Rick Bayless, Jose Andres, Jacques Pepin, Paul Prudhomme. PBS is loaded with great educational cooking programs. And for good entertainment CNN's Anthony Boudain is always a blast. read more

On the whole,a good network but ONLY when they are illustrating the joy of food. I love the alchemists on Iron Chef and the creativity of more average chefs on Chopped. Alton brown is brilliant but hard to take on his own show.Hyper verbosity gets annoying. Alex is adorable and my favorite.Ina Garten makes simple,interesting and good food. I need to get out of the house but damn Food-TV keeps me numb. Paula Deen makes me think of mom's cooking and the purple pill. Emeril makes me think of the messy roommate during my school days. His plated dishes look like our laundry pile. Alton Brown: my home-ec teacher I tried to seduce @ 14! What was I thinking? Rachel Ray: the perky girl at the checkout in Whole-foods that comments on my purchases! (god I want to punch her out) Sandra Lee: Ugly cake (or any food) queen. Iron Chefs: who knew there could be so many horrible ice-cream flavors? Clam flan anyone? I could go on and on..... I truly miss Sara M, Too Hot Tamales and the Two Fat Ladies. I like the Food Network, maybe years ago I did LOVE it. When I first started watching Iron Chef, it was such a great concept way back then. I like Ann Burrell, I like Paula Deen, I like Giada DeLaurentis (well I like her look). I like being on television myself though too. I have been to a few tv show tapings like Rachel Ray show and "Next Food Network Star". The Food Network is an addictive channel. I use to always order chinese food and watch Iron Chef you know right when it came out, perfect timing. I was here for the most recent season where the winner was Justin Warner. As a food tester, I got my fill of food. Had some mexican spicy hot chocolate and churros and it tasted great. Meatballs with some very spicy but amazing to taste sauce. Fritto Misto from Mr. Justin Warner was probably my favorite thing to eat though. It was lightly battered veggie and some were shrimp. Tasted amazing though, nice and light too, not too heavy. Tacos were also on the menu, chicken liver taco or regular just chicken, they were made by contestant Ippy. Sweet Apple Fontina Panini was my second favorite dish to try. Another contestant Martita made some Tortilla soup that was just amazing. We got to eat it the first time during the taping then go back for more once to camera stopped rolling. I had to get more of the tortilla soup, it was that good. I missed the Crab cakes though from the American station of the food. By the time my group got there, they were done and not making anymore. That group was under team Bobby Flay. So of the celebrities did make themselves accessible for a quick hello too after the tapings. I think Bobby Flay only let superfans from TEAM BOBBY come up, so I was like whatever, I don't care to be honest. Great time in the studio, I am not gonna lie, a decent way to spend a few hours on a day off. Useta keep as my running TV channel, but since they went into their 'celebrity reward system (CRS)' program; I have found other great channels & food shows like 'Hell's Kitchen' and 'Top Chief'. 1. Rachael - $40 $ a Day - who else would go to a place known for seafood & order vegees. And the other one with a celebrity; that's where I found that her shoes were made for stepping on other peoples lines. 2. Alton - finally got to like his "Good Eats", but what do they do -- put him on the road with half the program watching him ride a motorcycle (CRS). 3. Semi-Home Made - her cooking is OK. but to spend 30% of her show decorating her table - ha. She spends more money decorations than on the food. 4. Giana - is great in the kitchen, she has the passion for food. But no give her the CRS treatment - 'The Big Bash'. Who's ever going to invite me the a Big Bash? 5. Bobby - All his programs suck. And I feel he needs people, especially women, to just adore him. 6. Emeril - You either take him or leave him (but it looks like he does great charitable work). Hate his new digs, especially that white front - it should be passion (red or black) not ice. 7. Iron Chef America - Watch it if you like the see chefs sweating, running around & hiding their creations till the end, etc. 8. Next Food Program Chef - There been 2 so far and they're going for a third - all I can say about the first 2 is boring and boring. 9. Ingredients - Oh ya, I always keep white & black truffles, morrel mushrooms and duck fat in my pantry!!!!! The most expensive item I have is saffron. 10. What's missing - They should go back to real food shows. They do not have: Central to South America, Western Asia, Slavic, Scandinavian - each country in the each area I mentioned above have their own ingredients & cooking techniques. 11. One Star - Gave it to them cause I inadvertently caught "Paula's Party" last Sunday. Seems like the only winner they have. read more

Review 400 goes out to one of my top ten channels, especially at times in my life where I needed to feel hungry again. I needed to feel the pang in my stomach and the breaking of my heart. Paula Dean can smother butter on my face and say oil the way she says oil in that Georgian accent (Georgia, US) its something like "oll" no oi part just "olle" with the last "e" reflecting her slight inflection of the "l". Alton Brown is really really useful lifesaver huge dork. I've sat next to Kevin Barasch(?) at The Spotted Pig. needless to say it was an interesting conversation regarding hitting on a woman. I prefer his stint on Thirsty Traveler on Fine Living than his Iron Chef role, but that's another debate. Ming Tsai should come back. East meets west was awesome, I'll never forget the lobster he cooked on the episode I saw on New Year's Eve in 4th grade. Emeril kind of annoys me. And then he makes a shrimp boat and my disdain turns to pushing my glasses up and listening intently. His live show is terribly tacky but his half hour you me and the tv program essence of emeril is very very good. Actually the funniest thing about his live show is his audience reaction to his stuff, they get so into it in a Ronco Food Dehydrator way its sickening to watch but at the same time there's a bland, original-stepford wives creepy humor to it. Doc Gibbs probably wishes he could spatula Emeril to a pulp but whatever. Ciarello, good. Tyler, great. Batali, greatest ever. Molto Mario kills me with its knowledge, arrogance, and anti-French leanings. Al Roker can go back to weather though. His show is useless. As is Unwrapped, but that's just because i'm not a candy/sweets fan. Oh Nigela. You are perfect. Close behind is Giada with her insane face. and then way far behind is Rachel Ray. You show me how to spend 40 bucks a day, and I'll show you BORING CRAP. Watch 9.99 on NYC TV instead, its a better show for the New York crowd. I do'nt care about spending 40 bucks in Topeka I just want to sit in the fields and that's free. And then I see the Thanksgiving special. You have cooks like Emeril, and then......who's that at the end of the table......Sandra Dee? Is that even her real name? Semi-Homemade is alright.....I guess.... the cooking competitions are okay but the problem is the details are sometimes left out because of the expansiveness of the event, the stupid TV conventions of the show and how its directed, or they try to catch up on all the little quirks that they all end up being the same anyway. That's why it always boils down to Iron Chef. No frills hot action for 60 minutes that'll get me bothered enough to eat spiced ham by the pound. The japanese original I almost never see anymore, and that's a shame. I guess they had to make way for Food Network nighttime. read more

Four minutes into Sandra Lee's new show, and I lost all respect for the Food Network/ Cooking Channel. She was drunk, watching the bar tender make some drink, and thought she had to comment on every ingredient that he put in. I mean she said some really stupid stuff. My wife even said, "I am so embarassed for her." There is bad. There is worse. And then there is Sandra Lee. Doing a travel Tavern and Club show, because everyone figured out that she can't cook. It's just terrible. Had to change the channel. No more Food Network/ Cooking Channel. It's back to the books for me. Luckily, my Mother-in-law works at The Daily News, and I get all the celebrity chefs cookbooks before they come out. They send them in to get reviewed, and guess what? The daily news doesn't review cookbooks. They should just address them to me and cut out the middle man. Just say no to Sandra Lee... read more

There is a possibility that I have an obsession with the food network. You know how some people say "there's nothing on tv?" I never say that, because the food network is ALWAYS on. Other than the fact that I despise Rachel Ray with all my heart and soul (she talks down to me, I can't deal with the subordination), the food network always rocks. I have a severe crush on Dave Lieberman. I fear as though he may be gay, but I've been trying to ignore that little tidbit. I can only watch Iron Chef when I'm multitasking or else I get WAY to engrossed and start yelling at the tv. It's unhealthy - and amazing - at the same time. I also love the fact that Marc Summers from my favorite childhood show Double Dare has his own food network show. Awesome. Loves it. read more

I am a fledgling chef in the making. Okay, that's not true. I just like to watch cooking shows, get really hungry, and then head out to a restaurant. But, if I did cook, this is where I'd start for some helpful tips. I mean, come on. Regardless of what you're into, they'll have a show for it. And regardless of what kind of personalities you love or hate, they'll have plenty on both sides to impresse you and piss you off. I love that they put the recipes online. I'm not one of those people who can multitask (read: I'd burn down my entire apartment complex if I tried to cook while watching their instructions on tv), so it is important that there are clear instructions written down for me. That being said, it is pretty easy to navigate through all the billions of recipes from the billions of tv celebrities they have on this channel. (I do understand that this next comment may get me pelted with hate mail or just a lot of obvious snickers, I'm going to say it anyway.) 99% of the time, I like Rachael Ray. Yes, she's incredibly chipper and obnoxious. But you can't argue that she loves to eat. And that is always a good sign if you're a cook. If you don't like her, you can always go for some Southern lovin' from Paula Dean (seriously, that woman could help fatten up just about anyone). Bobby Flay reminds me of those tv evangelists so I avoid his show at all costs. I won't even get into my extreme dislike of Emeril. I always get the feeling that I'm watching a really cheesy made-for-tv movie when watching his show--ridiculous laugh track and all. Anything that is healthy is an automatic sign that I need to change the channel to something more wholesome--like Hannah Montana. I know I'll never cook it, so why bother wasting time watching it? All in all, Food Network is the best way to waste an entire day while folding laundry, surfing the net, or good ol' fashioned procrastination. My recommendation: pop a bag of popcorn and enjoy the show. read more

Sandra Lee is awesome...a little bit of an "alcky" but good times Paula Deen is basically my Ganga...i swear! ...my grandmother has really had people tell her that she reminds them of her. Rachel Ray is "too big for her britches" as my Gamper says Bobby Flay has good recipes but i don't like how he talks...i feel like he's gonna beat me up if i dont like his food Alton Brown totally takes me back to those VHS videos of Bill Nye the science guy i used to watch in science class...good times Tyler Florance is a really nice guy i met him when i worked at williams-sonoma in San Fran. His hands are like the size of my head! I lost my hand when I shook his! He signed my cookbook and its got some great recipes in it. It's too bad many here have great expectations of the Food Network, because their hopes are going to be smashed to bits. Food Network is becoming the Redbook or Ladies Home Journal of cooking. Non-pros like Rachel Ray, Guy Fieri and Sandra Lee will come to the fore. Fewer professionals chefs is the trend. That curly-haired waif-next-door who won the Star contest this year was talent-free, she vanished. Those 2 producers are idiots. The couple of producers who judge the Star contest are hypercritical, yet consistently choose someone safe and homogenized, with little real world experience. They're shopping for 'a personality'. Not to worry, they'll give the cute but unskilled winner a formula show, they just want someone they deem watchable. The proof of my opinion is that most of the 'stars' these marketing geniuses have selected quickly disappear from view. Makes you wonder why they are allowed to continue their forced march to bash talent out of a random selection of people, instead of doing due diligence and actually researching honestly accomplished culinary experts. They are out there, they just don't need to join the silly circus that is the Star search, because they don't have to prove anything to marketing wonks. I think Emeril is ill. He looks terrible to me. He's gained weight and his stoop has gotten worse over the years. Sure, he dyes his hair but he just doesn't look like he can keep up any more. I wouldn't be surprised if he's diabetic and or has heart disease. I believe he opted out of his Live show for health reasons. If he's not strictly ill, he's just plain tired, and headed towards illness. One of the 'pork fat rules' is that it is not good for your health. To the reviewer here who doesn't understand why Emeril's audience says, "OOOOOOO gahlic!", you probably haven't lived anywhere outside of NY. I am multi-ethnic, born and raised in NYC. I have lived in Illinois for over 35 years, and I can tell you, LOTS of people outside of NYC don't like or use garlic at home, 'gahlic' IS a big deal to them. The Food Network HQ may be in NYC, but they know the majority of the U.S.A. has bland and boring, meat and potatoes taste, and are used to food from a can. Their target audience is not sophisticated gourmets. That's why Wolfgang Puck is on at 2 AM, and Sandra Lee in the afternoon. read more
