The quality of their produce, meat and bakery departments are consistently great. The store is also kept clean by their employees sweeping and checking products whenever I'm there. The employees make me feel I'm shopping with family. They courteously lead me to items I can't find. It makes me feel like I'm shopping with ohana. read more

Can we say a "Hella Yes"!!! Located in the Kea'au Shopping Center, I would say that the Foodland Supermarket is one of the anchor businesses of this shopping complex. The store has this old skool paniolo cowboy feel to it, as the shopping complex appears to reflect the paniolo theme. The Foodland store is pretty spacious & well organized. As I walked into the store, I made a straight bee-line to the hot food section to get my Salt & Vinegar Wings. It took awhile for the clerk to acknowledge me, but once she helped me, she was very accommodating as I requested the drumettes, instead of the flats. I ended up picking (6) Salt & Vinegar Wings, and as a bonus..........I saw it was on sale for ($8.99 per pound) with your Maika'i Card! What can I say about the Salt & Vinegar Wings??? Outstanding! The Salt & Vinegar wings had a very nice texture.....not wet, but a drier texture. The salty & tangy flavor of the wings made my mouth pucker a little as I was destroying them wings!! Yum! My only downfall was that I only asked for (6) wings...........guess I should have gotten at least (10) wings! Aiyah! Well, everything is about moderation, right??? Last of all, I would like to give a big SHOUT OUT to my Yelp buddy - Jolene L., as it was her that gave me da scoops about these Salt & Vinegar Wings! Foodland is the literal definition of highway robbery! Who in their right mind would price a box of cereal for $8-9? I could get three boxes of the same cereal for the same price on Amazon! Shopping at the various Foodland locations on all the islands is one of the things I look forward to every time we visit Hawai'i. U fortunately this location had a very limited selection of bakery items and not much at the deli counter.we usually pick up a variety of salads and side along with their chicken or other entree items for a couple of our meals while on vacation, but the options were very limited here. I'm not a poke fan, but the one in our group that does enjoy it said that their poke with avocado, served over rice was delicious. We also bought a chocolate Haupia pie made by Ted's Bakery in Oahu - can't go wrong with that. Their mochi selection areas also disappointing. This location is not on the same level as the locations on the North Shore or Kauai, sadly. read more

Shopping in the evening as a white person will get you targeted by staff. Walked up to the event staff talking about how horrible white people are. Cashier intentionally did not put my items in my bag. I called when I got home as I presumed the cashier was actually bagging my items. Cashier and evening staff all denied not giving me my items and told me to call back to discuss with the a manager. They called me a liar. They actually stole my groceries that I paid for and called me a liar. This place is very racist against white people. They are all the most rude and disrespectful group of staff and it's best to avoid it if you are white. If you're a tourist, DONT shop here. They will not put all your groceries in the bag and they will deny you if you try to get what you paid for. Rip off. Scam. Racist bigots. read more

How could I forget Foodland near Volcano? A great place to get grocery items in the area. We discovered this place due to having family who live nearby. This Foodland is conveniently located in a strip mall in Keaau. Just across the street, is a sweet community park where you can let the kids play, while you set up your Foodland haul for a picnic with beautiful views. The star of this Foodland is definitely their Korean Fried Chicken from the hot prepared food section...highly recommend. read more

So mostly really good things to say about our local grocery store. I really appreciate their vigilance in keeping us safe. The greeters are firm but kind. Maybe a little bias during kapuna hours. It's not that big a deal, just kind of funny watching a business lose money in the first hours of the business day. I totally get it. We always pushing the elderly into traffic around here. It's Puna. The poke is bomb ass poke. Always fresh and we prefer it to the other grocers in Hilo. Hilo sack n save is consistent in providing quality poke. The sandwiches and quick grab items quality surpasses the choices at most of their competitors and again service is always friendly. Parking is tight. Aside from that and running into too many shitty neighbors it's an ideal venue. read more

Hearing the poke was good, I was disappointed in the heavy soy ahi poke with large chunks of tough green onion. The salmon poke was fishy tasting and smelly- which you know what that means...not the freshest fish one wants in poke. The price is good but overpriced for the disappointing flavors. read more

This place has the ability to meet your needs. They have good specials, a decent deli and good poke for a good price. It is on the smaller side, which is nice if you know what you need so you dont have to browse a large store for an item. The staff is always friendly and they have enough registers open so that line is never too long. There is a redbox inside, Atm service and some other goods available including alcohol. Whats up with this supermarkets. Every time we try to get poke bowls they always say they ran out of rice. Yet you can see about 20 bentos they prepping and every sigle one has a scoop rice in it. But hoooo, the line was so long and all of them were long on a Wednesday night...Only two registers open and we weren't moving at all for probably 15-20 minutes - and I'm not exaggerating. Another foodland location near Hilo but in city of Keaau. I think the size of the market is about the same size as the one in Hilo but this one seems to be more organized than the one in Hilo. I personally dont frequent Foodland as much as I do as KTA or other grocery markets like Target but sometimes they have a really good sale on certain items I like to purchase. All the isles in the store are organized well and its clean. Ive seen a lot of empty shelves in Hilo but I feel like this one carries more merchandise in stock. The lady who helped me at the register was super nice and polite. Foodland is known for their Poke and a lot of locals say that their poke is better than Suisan. I have had both but I cant tell the difference, haha. However, since Foodland is a lot closer, I would come here more often than Suisan for sure. All in all, its a great location, well-maintained. Parking lot can be a little too crazy since its somewhat narrow but shouldnt be a problem if you be extra careful! read more

We frequent Foodland quite a bit on our home turf (Honolulu) - primarily for the poke. And thank goodness that the Foodlands here, on the Big Island, offer the same quality poke that our home Foodlands do. This location is in Keaau. Near Kurtistown. Just south of Hilo. We found this particular location to be very busy and very "aloha speed" (SLOW). Parking lot was also super crowded and busy. But, all in all, it is a great place to pick up the bare necessities of life (especially poke). read more

It's a nice store. If you shop carefully you can find good deals here. The employees are all very nice and they carry a nice selection of products. The poke section is really well done. I also make use of the frequent shopper rewards. I save them up for special times like turkeys at Thanksgiving and corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick's Day. If you are a Ben and Jerry's fan there are frequent sales where you can get great prices. It's convenient to Keaau and lower Puna. I like this store. read more

One of my favorite Foodlands because their poke is the best! Everytime I go the poke tastes so delicious and fresh. Only downside is stuff adds up here. I usually get a range of items and my total is always higher than expected. Was looking for a certain item and asked for help and was very pleased when the worker escorted me to the location of the item. Some places I go they will just say things like "oh that's on aisle 3" and go on their way. So I appreciated the customer service. read more
