The Hilo Farmers Market offers a large selection of locally grown fruits and vegetables as well as ready to eat snacks and beverages. The vendors sell similar produce but the quality and prices are different so shop around and ask questions before making your purchases. My favorite fruits to buy are lychee and longan because it's cheaper here than on Oahu at the Honolulu Chinatown. Most of the vendors are cash only so stop by an ATM before you come here. If you go before 9AM on a Saturday, it is crowded and gets hot with all the people around. I prefer going after 10:30AM. They have free parking in a private lot but that fills up quick and your other option is street parking. I usually spend about 1 hour - 1.5 hours here.

The farmers markets are always a joy to wander around. I love buying the local fruit, exploring the local vendors booths and listening to the local music dance in the air as it sets the vibe for each market. Every vendor is ready to greet you and show off all the delectable treats or handmade gifts. I can never resists and never leave empty handed. This is a great way to see all that the island has to offer. Each farmers market is slightly different and showcasing locals all over. I was a little bummed as I was searing for a white pineapple but couldn't find it anywhere. Until next time I got more fruit than I could handle during my trip life of a hungry hippo lol. Parking was plentiful and plenty of places to walk around in the area or to see the water across the street. This was a great way to start my morning. A hui hou!!!

This a covered market spanning 3 street corners. Half is dedicated to fresh produce and half is comprised of vendors selling souvenirs and crafts. It was a fun stop while strolling the streets and shops around Hilo. The fruits and vegetables were abundant, looked incredibly fresh and not bad prices. The vendors selling merchandise, u found it to be your typical farmers market - mostly junk with some interesting handcrafted (and expensive) options. There was a guy selling mason jars of fruit preserves that was really good. We paid $15 for a 12oz jar of pineapple strawberry. It also happened to be a good place to take shelter during a typical Hilo downpour. If you are around hive it a shot!

Great variety of vendors, Super awesome service, and best of all no inflated prices. Right in Hilo town, conveniently located near shops and restaurants too. Local vibe without being chaotic and noisy. We bought a fresh soursop, mountain Apples and lychee. Prices are very cheap, and there is a slight chance of being able to bargain for the best price. We also had poke and acai bowls at nearby Poke N Sides and Kula Shave Ice, then spent the morning walking around Hilo Town. Do not miss the best farmer's market in the entire 808 State!

DO NOT BUY COCONUT FROM THIS LADY SHES A SCAMMER.

I love it here the prices are WAY CHEAPER I found mangosteens $5 per lb lanzones $8 per lb. I would give it a 1 star because of the lady selling coconuts that also sells orange juice I think that is. I asked how much is the coconut she said $7 as I walk away she says I give you $5. So I approached her she asked what you like more juice or more meat I said more juice. She picks the smallest coconut a little bigger than my fist. I said no I'm not paying $5 for a small coconut she then says you want more juice. I said yes but I want a big coconut with juice. She said the big one no more juice. In the end I bought the big coconut that had little juice. I was upset yelled she was a scammer because she doesn't even ask if that coconut is ok with me she just cuts the top open and adds a straw. Never will but from here should have bought from the other coconut stall that looked more organized.

Hilo farmer's market has an amazing selection of items especially fruit. I finally had the chance to try two fruits that I haven't had yet: durian and rolinia. The rolinia I got was huge and perfectly ripe to eat the day we bought it. The durian was disgusting because a vendor handed us one that ended up being rotten and gray inside. Hopefully I'll get the chance to try one that is ripe sometime. Definitely come here if you're into trying new things or just love fruit you'll most likely find something you haven't eaten before.

A lot of options here, fruits, veg, tea (I bought a lot of tea) handy crafts. It's mellow and serves locals and tourists alike.

So my experience here is that the vendors are rude not helpful and we bought bananas that were pretty tasteless from one vendor and the next vendor was great. So maybe do more research then I did and figure out who to buy from and who to pass on. Next time I will do my research before I go for sure!! The three start are for the avocados and the one vendor with the good banana

If you find yourself in Hilo you need to come on over to the farmers market!!! Saturday is the day to go!! Not only do they have the most amazing fruit and veggies, but they have some prepared goodies as well. Each time I have gone I have found different treats. Fresh spring roll, stuffed sweet bread, fresh press juice, and more. You can also find things to buy like souvenirs, clothes, jewelry, bathing suits, art, the list just keeps going. All I can say is go, explore and BRING CASH!! It helps,.

Hilo Farmer's Market Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Hilo Farmer's Market

Whats the average price of produce (fruits and vegetables)?

    Most things under $3: Papayas $1, dragon fruit $8/lb, lemons 2/$1, limes 3/$1, tomato's $2 pack of 4, lettuce $3/pack, kale $3 bunch, zucchini $2 each.

I know Wednesdays and Saturdays are the bigger markets, but what exactly is the difference vs the other days? I'm mainly interested in the differences of the produce available on regular days vs the big days.

Wednesday/ Saturdays usually have food trucks, and other days are less busy with customers and vendors, so probably less variety of products available, though when I went on a regular day they seemed to still have plenty of produce.

What fruits are available in end of February and early March? Specifically exotic, tropical fruits like rambutan, longans, lychees, mangosteen, mountain apples, star apples, durian, soursop, etc?

Hilo Farmer Market security guards are rude, bad-mannered, not polite, and not gentlemen. He showed me his fuck finger . He should not do like that to his customer. Right !!! I told the owner But nothing else happened. He just stays quiet inside…

Can I bring all the produce on the plane to Honolulu?

Yes, to the other islands but not to the Continental US

Can someone list the truly organic produce vendors?

Aloha Bella, There are two organic farmers that are the most consistent at our Hilo Farmers Market. 1.) Josannas Organics Hawaii ( Wednesday) and 2.) Waiholokui Garden / the Salad Experience. (Saturday). Mahalo for your question and hope to see you…

Will i be able to weigh the produce myself before purchasing?

Many of the owners sell by bunch or piece so you do not need to weigh the produce. Very few have scales but if they do they will let you weigh. It is very low key

How is it during the week? Is it just as crowed as the weekends? How is the parking during the week?

The Hilo Farmers Market is opened completely on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I have noticed no difference in crowd sizes. Parking can be a challenge sometimes, but if you are willing to walk a few blocks, that is not an issue. Some stalls appear to…
