However, our caregiver that arrived did not seem prepared for a hospice situation (which is what the job always was always described as) and also made comments and asked questions of the hospice nurse in ways that were very insensitive to our family. To make matters worse after the nurse confirmed these to likely be final hours the caregiver asked if since the family was still awake she could just go now as her stomach hurt and essentially she quit mid-shift. The management team did apologize that their employee "got sick" the next day and refunded the prepaid portion of services which were not rendered. We were of course less than happy with the service of the caregiver provided and in fact have gone another direction for care now for my father rather than hiring this company for long term care.

During my search, I have realized that most of the agencies have dealt with difficult situations from their own pasts, which seems to create a certain familiarity.. I know it will be challenging trying to find the right agency, and finding the right caregiver that will want to help us out on the weekends.. Erika was very helpful, but also very upfront that because of the shortage of workers, it may take some time to find someone. I am glad I called.

Not returning phone calls, out of the office, etc. My husband's bed ended up infested with bedbugs, which I believe must have been brought in from one of his caregivers, as he is bed-bound and the only time he leaves the home is to go to the doctors. He had no appointments during that time. I called the company, as a courtesy, to let them know of the issue (which most people wouldn't do because of the stigma). I sprayed the room, hired a professional company to come spray the whole house, bought new sheets and bedding. I never even insinuated for them to pay for it. The company stopped services until the issue was fixed, which I completely understood. I called them back after the bedbugs were gone to find out they had to contact the main office on how to proceed. They were supposed to call me back, never did, so I made numerous calls to them...no answer, no return message, nothing. By chance, I called back late afternoon, only to find out they canceled our contract with the VA because," we might get them again ". Seriously?!?! Told them it would have been nice for them to return my phone calls with some response!! Very unprofessional when dealing with situations!

Nope, Sutter Care did not listen, the patient attends dialysis Monday, Wednesday, and Friday every week. It was requested that services not be provided on these days due to the fatigue caused to the patient. Either a nurse, aid, OT, or PT would continue to show up on these days. The final straw was the last time the patient was bathed was 4.18.26, family members were not advised. When this was discovered 4.29.26, Sutter Care was immediately contacted. The response was we do not have an aid at this time to provide these services. No calls were ever made to the family to advise them so they could make other arrangements. It took us from 4.29.26 to 5.7.26 to get a new referral to get our father to another provider. 5.7.27 our father has open wounds on the outside of his legs and his buttocks. The person came to the house, documented in the chart that wound dressing was changed, no infection, etc. This clinician did not look at the buttocks wound or change the wound. The next day, 5.8.26 this wound is now bleeding and has a green discharge. In the past, we have communicated with Paula Ketchum, RN, Administrator of the inaccurate chart documentations being made, lack of instructions left for family members when ointments are changed, and nothing has changed. I would highly recommend finding a different provider than Sutter Care at Home.

If I had the opportunity to choose another hospice organization, I would. Their hospice chaplain, from the Rocklin/Roseville area was most gracious and caring.
