The store is well organised, so it is easy to find things within it, and there is a clear sign which states what you can find on each level by the staircase. They do have a habit of moving things around though, which makes it slightly more difficult to find things if you always expect them to be where you're used to. The move of the Woking Post Office to the lower concourse has been controversial, and arguably not beneficial to either the post office or Whsmiths. The service is generally slow and crowded, with few windows open at the same time. It is also poor to access for less able people, such as children or the elderly. The staff have always been friendly and helpful to customers.

Yes, they have a fantastic magazine and greeting card section. The other sections of the shop suffer somewhat though, in my opinion. The book department is average and can't compare to Waterstone's. The toy department can be messy and most board games are the full RRP, so you'd go elsewhere. Same with their music and computer games. Unwanted old items, or popular things at the full RRP. Now, I've always found the staff lovely, happy and cheery. But the poor staff are victim of the shop's biggest problem. Which is... Why, oh, why can we not simply pay for an item at WH Smith's without the staff begging us to buy some reduced price chocolate bar? Would you like to buy a half-price bar of chocolate, sir? They ask this while pointing at the tired old boxes of chocolate swarming all over their counter. For a start, it looks a mess. Secondly, it's irritating. And most of all, it's a cheek because more often than not, the same items are cheaper (without pretending to be on offer) at Sainsbury's just several paces away. So, please, WH Smith managment, stop embarrassing your staff and your customers by desperately hawking chocolate bars for a quid, reduced from two quid, that are 90p anyway at Sainsbury's right by your shop. Clear the counters, grow up, and take pride in the stuff you sell well. Great magazine and card departments. Friendly bright staff. Stupid and insulting attempts to fob us off with dubiously reduced choccy bars. My opinion, anyway.

Having said that they do have probably the best selection of magazines and newspapers in town, and my son loves it for the cheap pocket money toys they often have. One of the only things that has changed since I worked there is the counter, it seems ridiculously high, I have seen some adults srtruggling so the kids stand no chance! It is handy for the sainsburys car park and never seems to have long queues.

This branch has the full range of magazines, with an audio and DVD section, as well as an extensive range of the expected stationery and cards. I fled there after fighting in vain with the excitable 14-year olds in the adjacent Clinton's for a Valentine card for my other half, and here found both better choice and a comparative oasis of calm. The only criticism is that they didn't have enough staff on the tills.
