Martins, as it is now known, is a typical suburban chain newsagent. It sells all the bits that you'd expect and a few more besides. The newpaper and magazine section is huge and compares well to small WHSmiths and the like. It's easy to browse to see what you fancy. Newspaper delivery is available. There is a toy section with a reasonable range of toys, games and children's craft material. Prices are good for some items and expensive for others - you need to know what you are looking at. Stationery items are stocked but personally I find these quite expensive. Odd items include seasonal goods, fancy goods, cake decorations and books. The card section is reasonable (certainly more selection than Waitrose opposite) and they have started to respond to pricing of the cheaper shops with some card bargains to be had. Staff are OK although can be a bit grumpy. A full range of lottery services is available. The sweet section varies in size but is good for kids. read more

Not even two minutes inside the store and we were harassed by one of the most insufferable people I have ever met. We went there to mail off a parcel and treated us with utter disdain. He could clearly see we were trying to mail off something important and large, but instead of telling us immediately that the main post office was closed, he proceeded to ask rudely what we were trying to mail (even though it was clearly displayed in my hands). My partner then asked him why he was being so rude to us, which created an even more unpleasant situation, with him telling us to leave the store. I then asked him why he was talking the way he was, which he responded to with 'that's how I talk son'. I let the 'son' comment slide off and mentioned that he was in customer service and surely he should adapt his tone and responses to the situation and customer. Needless to say, I will never return to this store and I hope that others will avoid such an obstreperous person. read more
