Garden City Park is located on the northeast corner of Merriman Rd and Cherry Hill just behind the…read moreGarden City Post Office. There are entrances to the park on Merriman Rd or Cherry Hill. The park is open daily until 10pm. There are many amenities including a civic ice arena, playscapes, picnic tables, covered pavilions and baseball diamonds complete with bleachers and lights for night games. My favorite feature is the 1.2 mile asphalt walking path that circles through the park and accommodates bikers/skaters in one direction and walkers/runners in the other. The only drawback is the squirrels who people have fed over the years to the point now where they walk right up to you asking for food. There are always people in the park but it's never too crowded. It is well kept and even has bags conveniently located for dog owners to use to clean up after their pets. If you live in the Garden City, Wayne, Westland, Inkster or Dearborn Heights area and enjoy outdoor recreation then this park should be on your list.

Bumpiest Ice Rink Ever I'm a decent skater. I only really…read morefall when I push myself too hard. However, this rink is incredibly bumpy, even for an outdoor rink. When I was by myself on the rink, I was able to maintain a speed that took away the majority of the bumps effects. However, when others entered the rink, I had issues. Of course I had to slow down but then my blades caught every bump. I ended up taking a huge fall that caused my ankle to sprain. If I were at a standard indoor ice rink, I wouldn't have fallen. If there is no one at the rink and you are a confident skater, then you might be fine. Though it is not meant to have a bunch of people on the rink.

It is a beautiful park in downtown Detroit (at least in the day time) and with the shaded tables, a perfect spot for a bite or a drink on a super hot day. Named Campus Martius for "Field of Mars" it is the reference point for Detroit's "mile" roads. Look for the Zero Mile Marker on the ground - Seven Mile and Eight Mile are precisely seven and eight miles from this spot, respectively. It was originally a militia drill ground back in the 1800s and the First Michigan Infantry Regiment departed from Campus Martius in 1861 for the Civil War. The park opened in 2004 and includes the beautiful Woodward Fountain, a seasonal ice rink and a seasonal beach. The - Michigan Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument is also here.
