Well, we've been back again, and thankfully there's no drama to tell. No, this was merely a check…read moreup -Milly had evidently gotten into some kind of mischief as the other day she came in with a wee scratch on her back paw. Since it was still giving her a bit of jip a few days later I decided to nip her over to the vet just to check it was healing well, and pick up her favourite (or not so favourite) worming and flea treatments whilst we were there. Of course, despite the three minute journey, she cried all the way there. But as soon as we sat in the waiting room, calm descended. After about 10 minutes, and a warm welcome from the receptionists, we had our appointment. The vet was just so lovely and friendly -I had a lot of questions, as Milly had put on a bit of weight and I was concerned, and everything was answered to put my mind at ease. Her weight, heart rate and all the other regular bits were checked. We snipped her claws back, as I'm too afraid to do it myself, and we checked the aforementioned paw. Everything is healing fine, I'm glad to say, so she's fighting fit. It was fantastic to take her in and know that everything is dandy, and have such a friendly vet talk through everything I should look out for-essentially, I know a few Doctors who could use some lessons in bedside manner from this lady, she was that lovely! We had a minor incident returning to the reception, given that a humungous and nervy Rottweiler had a bit of a bark as we came back through, which unfortunately resulted in Milly producing a rather large and pungent accident in her box. I wasn't sure about the protocal, but mentioned it to the receptionists when I realised, and quick as lightening one of them got up to take her and get her cleaned up! I was so impressed and grateful, especially since I'd be taking her home in a taxi as I don't drive. After five minutes she came back with Milly, her blankets bagged up, and having hosed her down. Amazing! I was just so delighted that they could do that for me. All in all, I'm really lucky to have such a fabulous Vet near by for my cat, and it's pleasure to have to take her in! As for Milly, she's already settled down on my clean pile of washing, so clearly hasn't been traumatised one bit... Hooray!

I came back to Pets At Home finally for the purpose of my own pet. I've recently adopted a rescue…read morecat and of course there are many things that we needed to purchase to make the wee one at home. So we decided to make a shopping tip to Pets At Home to grab everything we needed. Although the store is huge and has a large dedicated cat section I found that the range was a touch disappointing. The selection of toys wasn't all that impressive for starters - the catnip toys were all a little expensive, though I may come back for one to see if she likes them. The other toys included a short stringy bit of felt on a stick, with feathers and a bell, some plastic balls, little material mice and a few other more expensive options. I wasn't much inspired, knowing what my cats at my Mum's house like to play with, so bought a few balls and the felt string thing. She's a bit non-plussed with them sadly! The food section didn't appear to sell Iams biscuits either, which my Mum feeds our cats at home, only the Iams soft food in small packages. Arg. We opted for Whiskas but sadly they too appear not to have agreed with her! Hopefully it'll just be the move and change in food which is bothering her. Other than that there is a large section for litter and most other things, scratching posts and the like. It's not that the store is lacking anything major it's just that I didn't always find the precise item that I wanted. I didn't find any cat beds, for example. Perhaps they were out of stock - it was a Sunday that we visited! Staff were friendly enough this time, but unfortunately it wasn't quite as useful as I'd hoped! It won't stop me from shopping there again, however, as it's still a great shop with lots to choose from. I'll have to be a little less picky, is all!

My poor cat has had more vet trips this year than most do in their lifetime. After what seemed like…read moremonths of treatment at our local vets, who happened to be fantastic, we finally had our beloved pet back in our care. After a few weeks he started to get ill again, our hearts sank. Thankfully our vet is open on a Sunday (it always seems to be a Sunday) and after a quick trip he advised us that our cat needed filtered water and a special diet. Not just filtered water but a water fountain for cats, where on a Sunday afternoon would I find one of those? Racking my brain I remember passing by this retail park in Meanwood and vaguely recalling there was a pet superstore there. At this point I must have looked quite distressed as I flew in through the door repeating water fountain over and over again, but the staff showed no sign of being alarmed. I was taken over to the cat section where a choice of two awaited me. I instantly relaxed now my quest was over and as the sales assistant took over the rather cumbersome box my water fountain came in I went to have a look around. They have everything pet related you could ever need, obviously I had to treat my cat to a new collar and some treats after all he had been through. They also have some cute bunnies (can you have ugly bunnies?) and sleepy hamsters, I was very tempted one animal to look after is enough for me at the moment.

I was skeptical, but on our first meeting, Misha was professional and asked all the right questions. My puppies took an immediate liking to her, so I felt comfortable leaving her to watch them in my home. While I was away on holiday, Misha sent text messages and emails with pictures of my little darlings, ensuring that I knew my puppies were well taken care of. On my return home, the house was in good order, puppies had been walked, bathed, groomed, and were excited to see me, but also seemed relaxed and content. Even my house plants were thriving. I will definitely be using Petsparkle again.

My friend is into her weird (sorry unusual) pets though so Pet and Garden World was a good choice. It's a fish lover's heaven and not like the Cat off Red Dwarf. I'm talking for people who like their swimming things to be kept alive. They've got loads to look at. From different species to all the stuff you need to keep them. Next it's the wonderful world of the reptiles and they seem to know their iguanas from their well erm other iguanas. I don't mind admitting my reptile interest and knowledge is somewhat limited. If you like more conventional animals you'll still be fine here and get your laughing tackle around things for a host of creatures including dogs, cats, parrots, small birds, hamsters, rats, mice, rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas. My dog Rosie had cancer for about a month in her bladder unbeknownst to us til we felt a strange lump, they managed to remove only some of it as it was so deep set, the vet did warn us that it may come back at some point. Unfortunately it came back a year later with full force, there was nothing they could do other than put her down due to her constant high temperature, her constant vomiting, incontinence and on and off appetite. We were mentally preparing for the day for a week since we got the call and a couple of days before she was due to be put down, we enquired if it's possible to put her down in her own home where she's comfortable as she doesn't like the vets, and to our surprise they had the nerve to say "well come round to fit the cannula in and then drive her to the vets to FINISH HER OFF". I was absolutely disgusted by them and thankfully found another company used previously by a family friend who came round to our home and put her down with respect and dignity We now have a puppy called Angel who we decided to never let her step foot into Kingsway out of respect for Rosie, instead we've signed her to Ashlands which are amazing and so sympathetic to both the animals and their owners.

We set of but unfortunately Gus our budgie passed away on route. On arrival at Skipton I phoned and the vet answered who was very supportive and asked if there was anything they could do. The reason why I gave 5 stars is that Kingsway were able to give us such a quick appointment even though we had not been before or registered and also they were so supportive also a few days later we received a lovely ...with sympathy...card from the vet and all the team at Kingsway .Being short of staff they still found time to send a card...which touched us.
