Although my son never had any issues with his teachers and had a positive experience participating in athletics, those positives weren't enough to outweigh the school's larger issues. The biggest concern is the lack of stable leadership. The school can't seem to retain principals, and the constant turnover creates inconsistency for students, teachers, and families. It's difficult to build a strong school culture when leadership is always changing. I believe the school is on their 9th principal in 6yrs. This is a major red flag and a huge concern about what the board is doing behind the closed doors For the tuition families pay, the quality of education simply doesn't meet expectations. Many of the school's strongest educators have already left/retired or are nearing retirement, and it raises concerns about the future of the academic program. Another major concern is the Board of Directors' involvement in day-to-day school operations. I've never heard of board members walking around campus writing up students for behavior--that responsibility belongs to school administrators, not the governing board. It blurs the lines between governance and management and creates confusion about who is actually leading the school. It's also concerning that board members appear to be making significant educational decisions despite having little or no professional background in education or business. Families entrust the school with their children's education and expect those decisions to be guided by experienced educational leadership. My son made great memories with his teachers and teammates, and I'm grateful for those experiences. Unfortunately, the school's leadership, governance, and overall educational value make it difficult for me to recommend it to other families. The school is located in a beautiful area and has great potential to thrive and be amazing. But it needs a new leadership and new board and for Lori Kirk to fully step away from this school. I would seriously speak to other families who have left the school prior to investing thousands of dollars into your child's education I've had 2 children attend this school. Such an amazing Christian school! I went here from 3rd grade until High School graduation. (left the school for my 5th grade year, long story). The teachers deeply care about you and include biblical info into what they teach. I made so many great friends and have beautiful memories I'll have with me for the rest of my life. After 12 years of education my oldest is so thankful for his experience, how well he was prepared for college and the staff that invested in him. My youngest is at the beginning of her journey and loves her teacher and friends. A true reflection of a teacher and coach are their students. Hi, I wrote a Niche review about this school but had a word limit. Here is the rest of my post: For ten thousand dollars per year, your child receives a marginal education, at best. As a previously excelling student with a 4.0+ GPA and multiple AP courses completed at this institution, I needed to prepare for college readiness and further academic pursuits, which is an incredibly appalling idea for such a costly investment. During my junior year, I intentionally withdrew from this school after finding out from a separate tutoring center that I was illiterate with subpar reading comprehension and intermediate math skills. It was a demoralizing and disheartening time for someone like me; their identity revolved around academic excellence. As a result, I ended up properly studying and educating myself with my elementary, precarious foundation. I strongly urge and exhort you to homeschool or use the ten grand to incorporate multiple tutors for a more holistic approach. Additionally, if you, as I purportedly assume, are a parent deeply interested in your child's faith, do not go here. This place has a strange miasma of apathy; you can tangibly recognize it during Wednesday's chapel-previous principals lamented this issue during chapel! Moreover, the bible classes are a joke, neither will the course challenge nor uplift your child's faith. Alternatively, your child will most likely become disinterested in their faith with the constant, jejune, and bland commentary-not truly diving or providing informative explanations to the true depths and beautiful scripture. Bullying is a significant and overlooked issue. The administration will disregard and relegate problems until they "magically" disappear. If you join this school, it is better than your average California public school. Safety and education are more acceptable. However, is it truly worth ten thousand dollars in this economy? As I student who attended Forest Lake for 7 years I would not recommend. The staff/teachers are bias and show absolutely nepotism/favoritism. All of the boards' decisions are made not with the intent to enhance the students' education but rather to benefit the teachers themselves and the people who are paying their salaries. The curriculum is poor and is in no way a college prep school. Classes offered are poor and they barely offer any AP and no dual credit classes. If you are looking for a private Christian school go to Adventure or St. Francis. read more

The school has some amazing teachers and staff who truly love the children and represent Christ in their day-to-day interactions. However, there are serious issues when it comes to how the school is run from the top. We know many families and people who worked for the school and left, pulling their kids out after becoming aware of the un-Christlike actions of the board and administration. I would highly recommend having serious conversations with current and past parents before sending your children here. I would say go to a board meeting and ask lots of questions but they do not hold open meetings. This school could be such an amazing place to teach the values and love of Christ, unfortunately like most of the world there is deep seated issues behind closed doors. read more

I saw this post on Facebook written by someone from Paradise Adventist Academy after last night's Women's Volleyball NorCal Quarterfinal tournament. I was so touched by the love your school displayed, I wanted to share a portion of what they wrote. Way to go Forest Lake! Thank you for your love, and for being "the hands and feet". "Last night, the Paradise Adventist Academy Cougars girls VB team travelled to Auburn, CA to play the Forest Lake Christian HS in the quarterfinals for Norcals. This is their division's version of a state championship. Some on the team did not have VB gear - they need shoes, socks, knee pads, shorts, jerseys - since it was lost in the Camp Fire #campfire. CIF was willing to postpone to Monday, but the girls wanted to play. When we arrived, we were overwhelmed with the love of Jesus by these amazing people, now friends! FLCHS had asked their families to help us. Here is what they did: - donated money so no one had to pay a gate fee (required by CIF) - provided all new uniforms so that all the girls would wear a team uniform (socks, knee pads, shorts, jerseys personalized with Paradise and each girl's own number) - gave each girl an envelope with $300 in gift cards - gave each girl a gift bag with pillow, blanket, toiletries and more - donated more than $16K to PAA - provided a meal for all the families after the game - escorted all of us to a room full of donations (clothes, toiletries, shoes, backpacks, jackets, . . .) and told us to "shop" - gave us warm, welcoming hugs - provided free food at their snack bar Their love of Jesus overflowed and completely drenched us last night. We are overwhelmed. Thank you is simply not enough to express the gratitude we feel. My heart is full." read more

Unfortunately FLCS is not what is was several years ago. Their school board is still run like a secret society with the meetings, minutes, budget, etc... (everything basically) is still run under a steel veil of secrecy. Staff and teachers all tow the party line so to speak. No transparency or sharing whatsoever with parents who pay a lot of $$ to attend here. There are also very serious issues amongst students---Bullying, extreme elitism, only wealthy students & faculty/staff students are listened to ... no true heart held Christian values... all phony and for show. I also do not agree with the way their AP program is handled- quite sub par and ridiculous. I can't even believe they claim to offer an adequate AP program. Also, beware playing sports at this school too... it is a Pay big or give nice little incentives to the current AD and her family in order to have very favorable results in the sports arena. I question the sports stats that are given to Max Preps -- highly suspect. Imagine these stats drive which students are given college scholarships?? Can you say !!Fraudulent !! If you speak out you are dealt with harshly and nastily. There is such corruption...a good ol' Christian brothers & sisters network for sure. This was once a highly regarded private school of faith... no longer. I would not recommend this school at all !!! There are much better alternatives elsewhere. read more

I had all four of my children graduate from Forest Lake. Now I have a grandson there in the 2nd grade. I have nothing but the highest regard for the board of directors, the staff, and especially the founders, Mr. & Mrs. Schoellerman. They are committed to providing the best possible Christian education they can, but even more, they are committed to seeing the young people have saving faith in Jesus Christ. read more

As a parent who has had five of her six children attend with two graduating from forest lake school I have nothing but the heist marks for this Christian based school. We cam from our church based school which had problems that were unresolvable and had a fantastic 8 years at the school. Unfortunately we have had to make other plans this year because my husband lost his job two years ago and we lost our daughter to suicide at 21. The school does not offer finical assistance as it is self sustaining by tuition only. My children were devastated to leave the only school they have ever known. One who entered 6th grade this year and the other entering 5th. We will miss our school but God must have another plan for us. God bless forest lake!!! read more

I was a student at forest lake for 2-3 grade and looking back on it, the experience left some major room for improvement. 2nd grade was great, but the 3rd grade teacher was degrative, manipulative, and an overall horrible experience especially for an eight year old. So if you want to look into this school for the early years of elementary school, please keep this in mind.
