Flight

Awesome place, what a great space. Really friendly service and welcoming atmosphere. Their beers are excellent and there are generally plenty of options for styles. Creative beers that are well executed. Great patio. A true gem for a small town brewery, it doesn't get much better than this for a "remote" brewery not close to any big cities

Flight!

Great local spot! Love the outdoor patio that looks over the lower patio. They had a great live band on the Saturday afternoon we were there. No food but they have a next door food spot that you can call and order food and they will walk it up. Great variety of beers!!

Such a cute modern brewery! Stopped with my husband on a daydate while visiting the area. Started with a flight and settled on the coffee cake (him) and the feather fall (me). Lots of outdoor seating plus a very aesthetically nice indoors ! Friendly staff and great beer. From our seat we could see leech lake! The table over from us ordered food from a nearby restaurant since Portage only had pretzels avaliable! Would definitely come again!

Six of us stopped in recently for some dinner and beer. Between all of us, we tried most of the beers and kombucha. I especially enjoyed the summer stout while we all ate delivery from Piggy's out on the patio. It was a great experience. I really wanted to try the "Black is Beautiful " stout but we didn't have time. So we went back two days later and I got to try it and the Coffeecake Blonde. We really enjoyed the beer and the atmosphere.

Best place in the North Woods?

Portage Brewing is a gem in the North Woods. We love the beer. We love the staff. The serving hall is beautiful. We are counting the days 'til June 2023.

Clean Covid-conscious brewery that has quite a few good brews, especially if you like coffee flavor! I tried both raspberry & peach kombucha (awesome & flavorful!).

Family time in the bar area. Spaced apart and lots of covid precautions. Loved this place

We had a great time at Portage! We really loved the fact you could order food from area restaurants and get it delivered! The beer flight was a great way to help pick the perfect choice! Would definitely go again!

Bar

Great rebuild, simple and quick service. Did a good job on sanitation. The building has a much better indoor and outdoor seating situation as compared to the previous build.

Tap Room

Was pleasantly surprised to find a craft brewery in Walker! Beautiful location with an abundance of indoor and outdoor seating. Great beer selection. Highly recommend!

Relaxing space and fun atmosphere. Enjoyed the beer flights for a good taste of most of the beers.

Very friendly staff & outgoing gregarious brewmaster made for a pleasant visit the evening we hit…read morethem up just before closing time. We got some of their Mud Lake Brown, as it was the only dark'ish brew they had on hand. As someone whose libation du jour is porter or stout, this paucity of dark brews is notable. Nonetheless, the Mud Lake Brown proved to be a fine draft. It has plenty of roasty notes in its flavor profile & a slightly yeastier than expected front end. Body was light, so could make a pleasant all-afternoon sipper. I've had a taste of their limited run Thin Mints brew, which is their Mud Lake Brown doctored with the Thin Mints GS cookies. I've only two words on that selection: "Amazing!!!" and "Exquisite!". It's a shame the Thin Mints brew isn't a full time player on 14 Lakes' roster. Reports on their Peanut Butter Porter were also solidly in the positive realm. So this little gem of a craft brewery hidden away in the north woods is producing some mighty tasty alternatives to the commercial big boys' generic offerings. Check them out if you're in the area, but be aware their hours are somewhat limited.

For a BBQ place, there wasn't a smoke smell, but the food tasted smoky which makes us wonder if it was liquid smoke being used vs smoking the meat. I had the pulled pork sandwich and my boyfriend had the create your own bowl (Mac and cheese with burnt ends). While I thought my sandwich was great, his bowl was pretty greasy and wasn't his favorite meal. The house chips were good though. Our server was really nice, and the food came out fast for being busy. We could only find street parking since it was in a "downtown" part of town.

The bar service was attentive, helpful and lovely to make small talk with while we waited for the food. The ambience was fun - great music, clean bar and they offered clever merch. The food ended up just ok. We ordered multiple pulled pork and a few beef brisket sandwiches. Corn bread, coleslaw and Mac Cheese. The meat was dry - we didn't have any sauce. The coleslaw was good. The kids liked the Mac and cheese. Overall our rating was ok and decided that eating in the restaurant is likely a better culinary experience.
