There's a big salsa scene in Melbourne and this is where Melbourne Salsa comes into its own (the clue is in the name). Beginners can buy a five-class starter card for $45 (at the time of writing this) which represents good value. The classes are manageable in number and take you through the basics. As somebody without any Latin dance experience at all, I was a bit anxious I'd be clumsy at starting this journey, and maybe I was, but I was made to feel accepted and welcomed and that makes me want to go back and keep improving! I can't be the only one who liked Annika's teaching style, as can be attested by the other 20 or so ladies in attendance. Unlike other samba schools that build on a choreography each semester, the classes are designed so that you can attend any class at any point of the year and still learn the basics and learn a quick choreography without having had to go to the past 3+ classes. The website is always up to date with the current schedule, and they are very active on Facebook. If you want to become a member, you can get discounts on classes with a one-time registration.
