Drinking on a double date with great friends makes for a fantastic evening of laughter! We made a reservation and then we all were running late, because I'm on Cuban time and they have kids, the host was gracious enough to switch us with a table of 4 that was early! So that was pretty cool! We started with drinks, mules and kung fu girl Riesling. We then got 3 appetizers and shared all of them: pork belly with braised kale, hot brown dip and fried corn on the cob. All were delicious! Great flavors and fun presentation. We kept drinking as one does on a double date and ordered meals. I had the Stroganoff and it was delicious rich flavors homemade pappardelle pasta, the herbs are all from the chef's personal garden and he told me himself how he grew them once we had gotten through our meals. That was a lovely way to reinforce the lack of hype for the wrong things. Our waiter was phenomenal and didn't mind walking up to the wrong sentences of the stories every time he came to refill something or take a plate away. We had to try the desert menu and enjoyed the bourbon truffles and apple crumble. Both were gone in a matter of minutes! The deserts and appetizers were reasonably priced. I love the classy feel of F&B. They put a lot of thought and effort into creating an upscale atmosphere. From the decor to the staffs apparel, it all exudes class. The two times I've been here, service has been pure perfection. They have a good mix of options on the menu from vegetarian to meat lovers to fish dishes. The crab cakes appetizer was good but pretty standard. The burger my husband got was "the best he's ever had". It was flavorful and juicy. My prime rib was good but could have used more flavor. On a business trip, colleagues and I enjoyed a fabulous dinner. We were greeted by Chef Geoffrey Heyde, who is supported by a wait staff who is engaging and pleasant, especially Savannah. As a group, we shared appetizers- chicken livers dusted in cornmeal, and a Caesar salad. The table shared a lovely bottle of Crozes Hermitage. I had French onion soup, and my main dish, the short rib which was delicious, the meat tender and savory and the gnocchi and vegetables well cooked. Desserts for the table included brownie served on a bed of fluff, and the dessert special was lemony pie creation in honor of 3.14! Chef Heyde visited our table and explained his philosophy and the tweaks to traditional dishes. I plan to return here on my next trip to Louisville! read more

My boyfriend and I had been wanting to try Fork and Barrel for a while, and we picked the perfect day to do it! We serendipitously walked into one of their themed brunches. It was a pajama party with a DJ. SO MUCH FUN. The whole environment is so fun. The music was amazing, all the customers were having a great time, the staff was very helpful, the chef even came out and talked to each table. BEST SUNDAY BRUNCH from my four years in Louisville. In addition to how much fun we had, the food and drinks were amazing. $1 mimosas, $5 bloody mary, and $10 BLT mary (bacon, lettuce, toast) which was definitely worth it! The toast was so tasty, can't even describe why. And the bloody mary was very shrimp cocktail-y. Delicious! For food, my boyfriend got the chicken sausage and waffles and I got the brussel sprout salad. I am one who has a natural aversion to the word salad, but this was amazing. Flavorful brussel sprouts with goat cheese, almonds, onions, bacon, and strawberries, all topped with a fried egg. An explosion of deliciousness for your mouth. All the different flavors came together so well. The chicken sausage and waffles was of course tasty also, but I only had one bite because I couldn't stop eating my sprouts. Love this place! First time here, and really enjoyed it! We have a monthly dinner group (great friends), and this month we chose to do a brunch. We always make sure we pick a place most of us have never been to, and never pick the same place twice, so we can get a chance to try many new places. Nice feel inside, loved the wood tables, casual feel. We had a group of 10, and we were able to sit in an area off to ourselves, yet still have a view of the rest of the restaurant. All open, divided by half wall. The staff was great, very attentive and friendly. Great variety of unique brunch style meals. I had the Biscuits and Gravy. Delicious southern style breakfast that I love, sausage gravy over buttermilk biscuits with two fried eggs on top! Great addition to a comfort food! Others in our group had the Veggie Scramble (Scrambled eggs, goat cheese, mushrooms, tomatoes, fried kale, and hash browns), and short rib benedict (braised short rib, hashbrowns, poached egg, bernaise). Everyone really raved about their dishes, and they looked delicious. OH, did I mention the $1 Mimosas!! Keep 'em coming!!! Very much enjoyed the meal, and the feel of the restaurant. Fork & Barrel is great. We recently visited this spot for a date night and really enjoyed it. We were having dinner before a show at Actors Theatre, and Fork & Barrel was a perfect option. Throughout our meal we tried several cocktails, all of which were tasty. We had Geoffrey's Spicy Margarita, A Bird in Hand, the Kentucky Mai Tai, and a F&B Mule. My favorites were the Spicy Margarita (Spicy Sauza Blue Agave, Agave Syrup, Lime Juice, and Strawberry Rhubarb Syrup) and the A Bird in Hand (Basil Hayden's, Strawberry, Basil, and Simple Syrup). I would order both again. We started our meal with the F&B Dip, which is a play on a Hot Brown, and the Crab Cakes. I didn't enjoy the dip as much as I expected, but the crab cakes were delicious. I just wish they had been a bit larger. For $12 you get two very small crab cakes, but the flavor was definitely enjoyable. For my entree I opted for the Fried Brussels Sprout Salad and B chose the F&B 10 Ounce Blackhawk Burger. The salad was great! I really love Brussels sprouts, and this salad was no exception. It's a hefty serving of friend Brussels sprouts tossed in mustard-sherry-bacon vinaigrette, and topped with strawberries, red onion, Marcona almonds, Capriole Farms goat cheese, and an over-medium fried egg. All of the flavors meld together perfectly for a rich, savory and sweet, experience. B's burger was served with Kenny's white cheddar, crispy shallots, horseradish aioli, and arugula; as well as a side of seasoned pommes frites, pepperoncini mustard, and ketchup. I didn't try the burger, but he enjoyed it. The fries were tasty though. My coworkers and I ate here while visiting Louisville for a work conference. There's only street parking available. The interior decor is warm and inviting. Our waitress was good and she did a good job hyping the evening specials and recommending the short ribs to our table. Two of us ordered short ribs, which were indeed delicious (I know since I helped my coworker eat hers when she got too full lol). My other coworker ordered the mahi fettuccine pasta special and said it was too salty and the pasta was undercooked in certain places. I ordered: CHARRED OCTOPUS - 3/5 Presentation was ok. I'm a big fan of octopus and was disappointed in the flavor. The octopus itself wasn't too tender and the "charred" flavor was more overpowering than it needed to be. Portion was also kind of small for $16 compared to other octopus appetizers I've ordered that serve an entire large tentacle. SWEET POTATO GNOCCHI WITH CHICKEN SAUSAGE AND GOAT CHEESE - 4/5 The cheese really made the flavors pop! Wish there was more of the chicken sausage. Harry Potter themed brunch?! Yes please! I went to Fork & Barrel's Harry Potter brunch today. It was amazing! The meals and drinks were all names from the movie. The Rum Butterbeer was fantastic and I loved the Weasley's Cornes Beef Hash. The "hall" was decorated and the servers had on their house vest. The movie was playing at the bar. Moaning Myrtle was also hanging out in the bathroom. Our service was not the best but our server was kind. We were seated promptly and waited a bit for a server when we were seated and towards the end of the meal. I can't wait to go back! Went there today for the first time. It was one of their monthly themed brunches and luckily enough for me it was the Harry Potter one. The atmosphere was amazing. The staff went all out from decorations to costumes and ambience. From things as small as Harry's potters signed hogsmeade permission slip to the menu items all being named appropré. On top of that the food was absolutely mind blowing. It was definitely one of the best brunches I've ever had. The staff was courteous and friendly. Okay, so a week ago I asked for recommendations for my wedding night dinner that would seat 7 people. Overall, Fork&Barrel was the highest recommendation. We've been there once before and had a great experience so this was a no brainer. Let me tell you, the experience started last Thursday when I made the reservation. The manager, Tyler, called me and asked me how he could make my night extra special. He asked what type of cake I liked and told me if I could think of anything else I wanted, to let him know. So the wedding night arrived and we showed up for our reservation. Let me tell you that this was the best restaurant experience my husband and I have ever had! From meeting Geoff, the chef, and Tyler, everything was perfect. We were greeted with flowers and a card signed by the staff. Everyone we encountered treated us amazing! Oh and to top it all off, Tyler (GM) personally baked us a wedding cake!! Hands down best experience and it was truly meant to be for us to celebrate here! Had Sunday brunch - yes they are now serving brunch - recently at Fork & Barrel. First let me say I love the vibe of the restaurant's remodeled interior. It is a great improvement! We were greeted and seated quickly. Our waiter was great and a manager and the owner both visited our table to make sure we were having a great experience. Their bloody Mary is amazing!!! This one was hard to judge. Parts were very enjoyable and others not so much. Seating was fine but as the place filled up it got very loud. The service was friendly but very very slow. They have a tiny kitchen and I think they struggle to keep up. The bar service was also very slow. The food was very good. I had a mixed greens salad and the octopus app. for dinner. It was very tender and tasty. This is a place I probably won't go back to due to the noise level. I can't hear when there is a lot of background noise. Great experience at Fork and Barrel. Wife and I made reservations for our anniversary and really enjoyed not only the food but service and atmosphere was awesome. We shared a great bottle of wine from the very diverse selection on hand. The owner, and chef, I had met on another occasion came to table to check on us himself. It felt like he was genuinely interested in our thoughts and not just fishing for compliments. Try the zucchini fritters or the spinach artichoke dip for starters. The filet I chose as entree was well cooked along with the au gratin potatoes on the side. The absolute hit of the evening was the dessert. Family was passing through Louisville last night on vacation and went to Fork & Barrel for dinner, it was a truly great dining experience! We were checked in on constantly by the General Manager Tyler and the Executive Chef, and GM Tyler even offered and recommended some bitters to go with my mom's cider. Our waiter Kerry was also extremely hospitable and constantly engaging in conversation with us. The restaurant has also adapted to COVID protocols really well with very distanced tables, so we felt extremely comfortable dining inside there. All the dishes have a Southern feel and are prepared so freshly and excellently; everyone in our family got addicted to their fried brussel sprouts (which show up in many of their dishes and as a side) quickly. We had the hushpuppies, crab cakes, pork belly, brussel sprouts salad, and tomato basil soup as apps - the only issue was the pork belly wasn't crispy as promised, but it tasted great nonetheless. Our entrees were the beef filet, shrimp and grits, vegetable plate, and the ruby trout special, and once again, everything tasted perfect-ruby trout was one of the best fish we've had. The s'mores brownie and chocolate chip cookies finished everything off really nicely. Would recommend this place to any local or anyone passing through the area, you will get great food and the star treatment and real Southern hospitality to go along with it. read more

I loved the octopus and polenta in my appetizer, but found the goat cheese and strong olives overwhelming, I would suggest a Mediterranean creole over polenta; octopus was tender and delicious. I also loved their wedge salad with a surprisingly spicy tomato jam and spiced pecans for a kick. My husband loved his mussels and the French onion soup was terrific. We went to celebrate our anniversary. We were one of only 2 couples in the restaurant for a 7 pm reservation on a Thursday evening. Place felt "Lonely". Cocktails were great. Had the fritters. Mostly breading. Very little taste of the shrimp, country ham or the cheese. Meals were ok, but as others have stated, nothing outstanding. Though our reservation listed special occasion as Anniversary, no one recognized it to us. Probably will not be a place we return to. read more

Came here on a busy Saturday night with some friends (so glad they could fit us in!) and had a great experience! We started off by splitting the pork belly and the crab cakes for apps, and both were delicious (esp the pork belly - YUM!). Both couples got the stroganoff (highly recommended, and we highly recommend!) and the burger (perfectly cooked, absolutely delicious, served with delicious seasoned fries). This was our second visit in two years and we're kicking ourselves that we haven't eaten here more often. Our dinner was incredible. As soon as we saw grilled octopus on the menu we knew we were going to go for it and we're glad we did! The last time we had grilled octopus was our trip to Turkey seven years ago and it was out of this world. F&B's dish took us back to that time. Magnificent! We wanted to like this place so much. We had heard good stories about other's experiences here. But we didn't. We started out great with a couple of the best Manhattans we've ever had. But things turned sour after that. My companion and I had salads but the lettuce looked like the bag salad you left in the very back of your refrigerator. More like icky soup than crisp lettuce. My chicken livers were way overcooked and nearly edible. We brought these issues up with our server (who was nice enough) and they said they would speak to the owner. We never got a response to our complaint and mentioned it again. Finally we got one salad removed from our bill. Probably go back for a drink but will eat someplace else. read more

We went here for burger week so it was packed. The server was friendly and everything came out fairly quick. It was the best burger I have ever had. The drinks were good and even though they were busy, they made sure we got proper refills and service. We started with the pimento cheese dip which was delicious. My wife & I stopped into Fork & Barrel while visiting Louisville to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. In the current time we are in one of the stages of Covid that had the KY governor making the restaurants work in a 25% capacity. We were very appreciative that we were able to book a dinner in such wild times... but boy... did we pick out a shining star of a restaurant to eat at. The service was amazing. The food was impeccable. The staff truly made us feel like we were special... like we were celebrities! My wife and I have very similar tastes and we both got the filet of beef. The steak was perfectly cooked and the merlot butter was perfect touch. The Brussel sprouts were also delicious. I washed this delightful meal down with The Cardinal Gentleman! This morning, on a whim, I decided to try one of the most awesome restaurants in the metro and try their breakfast brunch. I was not surprised to learn that their food and service were 5 star. The cornbread hot cakes, breakfast burritos with a side of chicken sausage were a perfect way to begin my day. I enjoyed them further while watching football later in my day, as the portions are generous! I will definitely sample other dishes, in the future, as the service and decor beckon for my return. read more

UPDATE 6/3/2018: Returned to Fork & Barrell for my daughter's graduation party. They handled a party of 15 seamlessly. From the very beginning, Fork & Barrell was all about accommodating us in whatever way possible. They were very patient as my guest list grew from 8, to 14, to 17 and finally back to 15. Emily did a great job communicating with me and confirming the changes, and also communicated with the chef to arrange for an OUTSTANDING chocolate layer cake as a special dessert. Arriving at the restaurant, the table was ready to go. The house manager greeted us and was solicitous throughout the event. We were so happy to have Josh as our server again! He is a real pro- so personable and so good at what he does. No one had an empty glass or a mistaken order. We were impressed at how quickly the kitchen was able to turn out our meals and to present them at essentially the same time. The new menu is great. The beef stroganoff was our favorite. My scallops and pappardelle were delicious, but the sauce could stand to be a little lighter (and I would prefer pancetta to ham cubes). I know that seafood in a landlocked location is always questionable, but the crab cakes really are as good as advertised. Everyone had a great time and my daughter has a great memory. Blech!) and the parking situation is confusing (someone had parked in a way that blocked access to the rear parking lot, and it wasn't clear is parking beside the building was allowed), but walking inside was like stepping through a gateway into an entirely different place. I love the "rustic chic" look of the interior. The wood tables and rose/wildflower arrangements set a beautiful mood. There is more light inside than I expected. The tables are well-spaced (packing in too many tables is a pet peeve of mine!). Josh was our server, and he had $1 mimosas out to us almost before we sat down. We were waiting on friends and he was very patient as we had a long chit-chat before placing an order. Our table tried a variety of dishes. The short ribs Benedict was my favorite, but the biscuits and gravy were also divine (and very traditional. I don't go for the "chorizo/peppers/weird cheese" variations that chefs sometimes go for to edge it up). We also shared a short stack (which was still enough food for two people to share as a complete meal!) of the cornmeal flapjacks as an appetizer. My table mates didn't like the texture/density, but I loved them...only complaint was that they didn't use real maple syrup. I know real maple syrup is expensive, but Aunt Jemima is out of place at a restaurant of this quality and it felt like corner cutting...charge me the extra dollar for real maple syrup! We took a good long time eating but were never rushed. We will definitely return. read more
