After standing around and looking at the menu a bit we were seated and handed menus and quickly placed our orders. The inside of this place is massive and features two different seating areas, a state, and a full bar (seriously massive). We all ordered our meals and after about 15-20 minutes or so the food started coming (very fast for the 8 people in my party). I ended up ordering the lemon chicken (the Italian name is slipping my brain) and it was pretty good for what it was, not something that would have me wanting more. My main issue comes with the side dishes and that's what is really dragging the experience down. I ended up ordering a side of French fries which another member of my party also ordered. He got his French fries at the same time the meals were served, while mine came roughly 40 minutes later after 2 reminders. Another member of my party never got the broccoli he ordered and when he realized that it was too late and we needed to leave for a tour. The French fries were fantastic, I'll give them credit for that. However I watched them serve 3 other tables French fries who all showed up after us, and even after we reminded them so I'm not really sure what the issue was. Overall, the food here was pretty good, the bartender working the first night was great, and the building itself is pretty massive. While the experience ended with mixed feelings, i can't say I would never come back.

But the salad tastes marvelous! When my son sees the price for his pizza is only 10 euros. He screams:" Mama, is this a charity place?!" lol! Our waiter is a fairly young boy. He speaks a little English. But his body language shows us all the hospitality. We absolutely love this place! Beautiful outdoor setting too! Romans don't believe in eating dinner until well after sunset and it gets dark. I'm more of the "Early Bird Special" type. A casual atmosphere. I was overdressed wearing a sport coat and tie. Jeans and polo shirt was the norm. It's fair to say the focus was on food rather than decor. The three types of bread presented a challenge: it was so good I was worrying about leaving room for the all the courses in the tasting menu. I ordered the ten course tasting menu with wine pairings. The amuse bouche was excellent. Five bites of various things, including carbonara in an egg shell that was stellar. The first course was cuttlefish sliced thin like pasta in Marina sauce. It was good, but now a common fine dining dish in Rome. Next, scallops in chorizo sauce with chard. This was an outstanding dish! Mantis shrimp in broth followed. Also outstanding. This was followed by ricotta ravioli with mussels and mussel foam. It was an unusual but flavorful combination. The subsequent spaghettini and clams in almond milk was also outstanding. I'm running out of superlatives. Fagotelli came next, stuffed with pork belly and in a broth with apples was quite good. But, nothing I've had anywhere can compare with Fagotelli La Pergola, which is in a class by itself. Squid was the first main course. It was good and cooked perfectly. But, I'm not a big fan of squid/calamari/cuttlefish. The next dish was pork belly or some other fatty cut of pork that I didn't care for, but this was a matter of personal taste not preparation. Dessert was a cinnamon cream with raisins and frozen apples and grapes. It was light but tasty. Petite Fours and cotton candy to conclude. Only one of the wine pairings was a palpable miss, but all of the wines were from small, iconoclastic sources. Only the Sangiovese seemed typical of the varietals. Service was impeccable throughout, even after the restaurant filled up a couple hours after I arrived. But, did seem to tail off towards the end. One complaint as so often occurs: after dessert, offer me coffee or offer me the bill. Don't make we wait 15 minutes for one or the other. The food was excellent and service was otherwise also excellent, until my last course or two. Really, why does it take 20 minutes to get the check?

It was unique but I was not blown away. The secondi was pigeon with celery root and pigeon liver served with a lovely decorations of edible leaves. It was a lovely presentation and it was cooked very nicely and I got it because I had never had pigeon. It was good but I was not blown away. The dessert was ricotta cheese with pear gel and chocolate crumbles and it had the right amount of texture and sweetness, not being overly sweet. I was a huge fan and would come back just for dessert! The amuse-bouche was also really fun and surprising. I do not think a description would do it justice but look at the photos I posted. There were amuse-bouche appetizer as well as amuse-bouche dessert. There was also homemade bread--the focaccia was the best but the others were okay (I am a total bread snob, however).
