I've been going to this gym for about a year now and it's honestly one of the best decisions I've made for myself. When I first started, I was really nervous about joining a gym and worried that I wouldn't feel comfortable, especially because I had basically no experience. But everyone there made me feel welcome and comfortable right away. I personally train with Mikaela, Dwayne, Jason, Christie, and Chris, and they are all amazing! They push you to work hard and you really get a lot out of their classes, but they also make sure you feel comfortable and confident while doing it. The environment is super supportive and it's never intimidating like some gyms can be. Something I really appreciate is that they don't just help you during workouts. They also help with things outside the gym like meal plans and guidance, which has helped me so much with staying consistent and actually seeing results. When I first started about a year ago, I was around 170 pounds and a size 14. Now I'm about 146 pounds and a size 8, and I feel so much stronger and more confident. I really credit a lot of that to the trainers and the support you get here. If you're someone who feels nervous about starting at a gym or doesn't have a lot of experience, this is honestly such a great place to start because everyone makes you feel so comfortable and supported. I had been dealing with lower back pain for a while, even though I was regularly working out at different gyms. About 2.5 months ago, I started working with Coach Mike, and it was actually my first time using a personal trainer. Within the first month, my lower back pain was reduced by about 90%, which honestly surprised me. Mike is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to sports injuries, mobility, and proper movement. One of the first things he noticed was that I had very limited ankle mobility and was constantly pushing off my toes, which was putting extra stress on my lower back. He's worked with me on improving my ankle mobility, teaching me how to use my heel and midfoot properly, and helping me engage my core more effectively during exercises. The difference in how my body moves and feels has been huge. I'm also a tennis player, so having a personal trainer who understands movement and injury prevention has been really valuable. Mike emphasizes mobility, core strength, and proper mechanics, which has greatly improved my overall movement. Jason has been working with my 14 year old son for the last 6 months. The physical change is noticeable through better posture and a stronger physique. UPDATE: I have been a member at this gym for the last couple of years and I can honestly say this place has been a life changer for me. I have been working with Michael for the last 3+ years and he's honestly one of the reasons why I fell in love with fitness in the first place. For one, he's one of the most knowledgeable people I've ever met in the fitness industry. I've done almost every type of exercise with him; powerlifting (deadlift, squats, bench press), weight lifting (arms core, legs), mobility (dynamic and static stretching), calisthenics (dragonflies, levers), landmine work, kettlebell flows, HIIT, as well as nutrition (macro counting and reverse dieting) and even sleep tips. After working with him for so long, I feel like he knows how much my body is capable of more than myself. I'm always being challenged with something new, and NOT ONCE I've ever had an injury working with him. He's extremely personable, understanding, and someone I can always count on. He's also extremely punctual and has never cancelled on me last minute. He also goes above and beyond for his clients even squeezing me in when he doesn't have to. I joined formula fitness around May of 2025 and it was the best decision- a true investment in my health and well-being. Formula Fitness is the real deal. - I was a professional dancer and my injuries and body pain caught up to me. Knee, hip and foot pain. Working with Mike Olivas at Formula Fitness has been a game changer. He's an expert, professional, knowledgeable and caring. I hit a season that required specific attention to deficiencies due to running and skiing injuries. Specifically, in my foot/arch that caused imbalances and weaknesses in multiple muscle groups. Mike is highly knowledgeable in foundational movement. He's been able to target the issue's starting day one. It's been under 2 months and my balance and strength has improved where I previously could not balance on my left foot and felt I could be a fall risk to now being able to balance and hold it. There is still more work to do with Mike completing assessments and check-ins during and outside of workout sessions. He knows exactly when and how to progress in motion and foundation. He ensures recovery and nutrition and addresses activities outside of the gym making recommendations to run on rubberized surfaces to support further healing. I just wanted to learn the foundations of weight training, and decided to give Formula Fitness a try with a 6 month program. Little did I know Formula would become my home gym for the next 1.5 years! Everyone on the Formula team is so genuine about your health and well-being. At Formula, it's not just about getting a specific aesthetic result (although you definitely can achieve that if it's your goal) - but about learning to take care of your body for longevity. The team caters exercises and routines to fit your own personal needs and limitations - even in small group classes. It's never a one size fits all type of deal at Formula, and it teaches you to be mindful of the uniqueness of your body and learn a routine that works for you. They also emphasize recovery after each exercise - never have I had unmanageable soreness or pain even after a hard workout at Formula, only the good kind of soreness that tells me I worked hard. I went from having no knowledge in weight training to developing a strong foundation that allows me to workout alone, without fear of hurting myself or doubt on whether I'm doing things right. I am so glad that I found Formula Fitness. I started a year ago because I needed some motivation and personal training. I had a lot of intimidation when it came to working out by myself at the gym, so I wanted to have a trainer guide me on proper form and body mechanics. I love that the group classes usually only had about 4 people. It was very personalized and I loved having my community here. I worked closely with Jason and Christy, and I could not have asked for better trainers to be with. They always pushed and motivated me just the right way. The care and attention this entire team has for every single client is incredible. Formula Fitness made working out fun and challenging. I really enjoyed using the MyZone monitors to track my heart rate/intensity during workouts, so I'm really glad that Formula Fitness utilized this! I learned so much on how to fuel myself to not only lose weight, but also gain muscle. Formula Fitness has an InBody scan so that I could visualize my progress. I love it here so much! all the trainers are really nice and very helpful. I started in September and now it's December and I've lost already 29 pounds and I'm still going. I gained a lot of weight in the years after graduating college, and every time I tried getting healthier it would only last for a little while before I regressed to a place worse than before. The quarantine years didn't help either. But in January of this year I started training at Formula Fitness with Chris Wahlsteen and it was the best decision I could have made. The business owners, Amber and Tony Tran, are great. They're both always friendly and it's great seeing them in the gym so often. Tony gave me my first assessment and explained in great detail what they could offer me. He was open to all of my questions about the program and worked with me to make sure I was choosing the right option. I was a little intimidated, and my first session with Chris all but confirmed to me just how incredibly out of shape I was. But he adapted the workouts to where I was physically and encouraged me to push myself, but not too far. He developed workout sessions for me to do on my own outside of our appointments, as well as meal plans and recipes that I could pull from to follow the suggested dietary changes we discussed. I never felt like I had to eat anything bland to stick to a better diet, either. I learned better eating habits through all of this which feels invaluable. Chris developed my regimen based on my own personal goals, and was always really open to amending what we worked on if needed. I had a general weight goal in mind, but I mostly just knew I wanted to lose weight and feel more confident. Chris's consistently good attitude and genuine encouragement make getting your ass kicked in the gym an enjoyable time. He was really good about demonstrating each exercise, explaining the specific movements and what muscles they were working, and correcting my form when needed. I never felt like Chris was taking it easy on me, but I also never felt like I was being pushed too hard. We stayed on a healthy, tough, and consistent path toward my goals. The recovery sessions at the end of each workout are great, too. The gym itself is always clean and tidy, and while it's not a large space it seems like they set the schedule so that it never feels crowded. They take cleanliness seriously and all of the equipment I've used has been good quality and in good shape. It's a great space to work out in. Aside from building confidence in how I look, the time I've spent here has also helped me build confidence in my own ability to take on hard challenges and I know that I have the necessary discipline to do so. I'm really proud of what I've accomplished here, and very grateful to Formula Fitness for being the environment and push I needed. Everyone that works here, hell even all of the other clients I've met and seen, are always kind and in good spirits. I lost 57.4 pounds and had a decrease of 16.3% in body fat. I joined this gym 3 months postpartum, struggling with overeating, fatigue, and ab separation, all of which made it very difficult to take care of my son and just cope with life. It is the only gym I've been a part of where a recovery session (not a 2 minute "cool-down stretch") but an active hands on recovery session delivered by your trainer is built into the allotted time and is not an "add-on" service. My wife & I came to Formula Fitness with a strict deadline in mind (a little under three months to our wedding), but Tony and his team were very understanding of this and were able to help us make great progress in the amount of time we had. I was assigned to Parker and my wife was assigned to Roger, and I can honestly say that we genuinely enjoyed working out with our trainers. Parker was a true professional and really great at helping me gain strength and size in a short amount of time without having me lift excessively heavy weights or do anything that would cause any unneeded risks before the wedding. All of his exercises felt approachable yet challenging, and he was very knowledgable when explaining the proper postures and lifting forms. In the end, I can say for certain that even after only three months, I felt way better and more confident in my physical condition. The gym is always in pristine condition, and often times there will be no more than a handful of people there so sessions will never feel crowded (which is especially nice during COVID, and also trainers are always wearing masks so that is nice as well). My husband and I came to FF to get tone (me) and stronger (husband) before our wedding. We were paired with Roger & Parker who are the best trainers you could ask for. They made every session fun while engaging. For me, Roger would have different exercises prepared for me to do. I loved that it didn't get stagnant and I got stronger in my 3 months at the gym. I was able to reach my personal weight lifting record which was a huge accomplishment for me as I came in with very minimal strength. Overall, I really enjoyed my time there. It is an intimate sized gym so you start to recognize all the trainers and fellow gym members. First, I'm a gym lover. I have 4 memberships in different places back home in Denver just to keep things interesting. I come to Cali every summer though with the mindset to challenge myself in a new way to see how I can transform my body. I thought I pushed my body to the limit, I thought I knew what a full body workout entailed. Wrong! This summer, meeting Tony, he challenged the way I workout, and how to push myself beyond what I thought I could do. I lost only 10lbs total (counting from my home scale) in the 2 months I trained with him, but what was more impressive is for the first time I have abs peeking through! I am one of Tony's newer clients and I just had about a handful of sessions and my jeans have already started fitting better and I've dropped 5 pounds within a few weeks without changing my diet (yet)! Tony is very passionate and knowledgeable about health and fitness. He is extremely encouraging and he makes sure that you are doing okay during your exercises. His goal isn't to burn you out and he has very long term goals in mind to help you with your fitness journey. I have plantar fasciitis and it has been extremely difficult for me to go to a regular gym or any cross training gyms because my feet would hurt way too much. By the end of a 50 minute training session at a standard gym, I wouldn't be able to walk because my plantar fasciitis would act up really bad. Although, since Tony is very knowledgeable, he has been able to restructure my workouts so that my plantar fasciitis would not bother me and his stretching techniques have made it so that I could go push myself in one of our workouts and still be able to walk immediately after! In fact, my plantar facilities has gotten better and not so bothersome ever since I've been working out with Tony! Tony is amazing at what he does as a trainer (and even a life coach which is a great perk) and I highly recommend him!!! read more

I've been training with Tony Tran/Formula Fitness for almost a year now. His recent move into a private gym has made his great work even better. Tony is a whiz if you've got issues from injuries. For example, I've had two back surgeries and have some permanent nerve damage leaving a part of my foot numb. When I started with Tony, it was about three years after my last surgery. I was still having problems with general soreness in my back and a ton of pain when driving for more than about 30 minutes. Since starting with Tony, the back pain has gradually been getting better. Two days ago, I had to drive 90 miles to Ventura for a meeting. For the first time in years, I drove without back pain. I liked working with Tony so much that I also started sending my grown daughter to workout with him because of her back issues. She has seen marked improvement as well. And on top of that, I've started to regain a good portion of my muscle mass that I had 20 years ago when I was a gym rat. I thought those days were gone at my age, but Tony has reversed that as well. Now that Tony has his own private gym, things have only gotten better. He's doubled or tripled the amount of equipment he has and increased the space by the same amount. When you first walk into the gym, although you're not necessarily going to see all the equipment that they have in big commercial gyms, don't be fooled--Tony is so good he can get you an excellent workout with a giant rubber band and a medicine ball. But he's got way more than that. It's obvious after just one or two sessions with Tony that he's got fitness knowledge far beyond your average trainer. Fitness is his passion as well as his profession. He knows how to work you hard but in a way that is going to avoid annoying injuries and problems. I am so glad I decided to train with Tony. He is very knowledgeable in all aspects of fitness and truly wants to help clients with our fitness goals. The main reason I decided to seek a personal trainer was because I was having excruciating shoulder, neck, and back pain. I had already seen a doctor and received physical therapy with only temporary relief. Since I have been training with Tony the pain is 100% gone and I feel stronger and with increased energy!! Honestly, Tony is teaching me to be the best version of myself (now concentrating on my nutrition)! The exercise sessions always have a warm-up and cool-down. Tony always demonstrates the exercises (sometimes multiple times) and ensures I am using correct form. Routines are always changing and he even tailors the exercise to specific areas I want to work on. Sessions are always fun and very challenging but never impossible. Tony always keeps me motivated to make it to the end and I feel great afterwards! The facility is very nice, spacious, and clean. It is well equipped with exercise equipment. I started last year in August and I am so blessed to have found this place . I developed Arthritis in both my knees and developed High Blood Pressure as well as diabetes as well was doing physical therapy with my doctor but was not helping me much so I decided to work on myself and found this this place . Tony who is the owner who is very experienced in this field understood my physical issues and worked with me set me up with the correct trainer and today I am happy to say I am far long better than what I was .
