Like, Oh cute, a slice of starch on starch. Bread with potatoes on it. For when your body is craving a food coma. And then came the Marinara, my personal Roman romance. No cheese, all attitude. Spicy, saucy, simple. Like that one ex who was too intense but kind of unforgettable. Let's talk style: Roman pizza is not your floppy Neapolitan mess that folds into a pizza burrito the moment it hits your plate. No no, Roman pizza stands its ground. It's a little thicker and definitely crunchier. You don't need to roll it, cradle it, or whisper encouragement. It just is. And I love it more than I probably should. Another stop during our food tour led by Valentina with Tasting Europe. At this bakery, we got to taste a pizza filled with pork and Italian beer. Omgosh, what a treat! If I didn't know that I needed to leave a lot of room in my belly since this was only one of the many stops, I would've eaten more! They got some damn good pizza! I didn't even know the names and pointed at the slices, but I literally could've eaten anything since everything looked fire! The ingredients are fresh, the pizza is hot, and I love how light and crisp the crust is. They do sell by weight, but the price is very reasonable. The best pizza we had in Rome was found right in Trastevere. The crust was light and crispy and the toppings were excellent and fresh. You pay by weight here so I would suggest trying different pizzas of smaller portions. We always get the rosa pizza so we can really taste the pasta sauce and bread! OMG - the best place to get Roman style pizza in Rome. OK for North Americans who may not know any better, the round pizza disks we know are inspired from Neapolitan-style pizza, from Naples. Roman style pizza is made in large rectangles and is cut with scissors. The crust is also usually super-thin and the toppings are heavy. You are charged by weight. The pizza selections here are the kind of stuff you'll never, ever see back in North America so I jumped on those varieties, specifically the one with zucchini flowers, anchovies and fresh melted buffalo mozzarella or the one with chickpeas. They also put potato slices on their some of their pizzas. Who cares? It's all good and the pizzas here were tasty and cheap. Everyone is eating here, local Romans, tourists, local workers, everybody. It's very casual and reminds me of the kinds of places back in Montreal where bike couriers would usually eat at. Service is friendly, prices are lower than McDonald's. They need to have Forno La Renella all over the world. I look forward to that day. read more

Excellent pizza by the slice (sold by weight). The Forno la Renella pizza with tomato with large dollops of ricotta is extraordinary. I liked every style of pizza that I sampled here, except the Squash Blossom with Anchovies pizza. I'm not a fan of anchovies. We tried a chain that also sells pizza by weight and there is really no comparison. The pizza from Forno La Renella has much better crust, better flavor balance, fresher ingredients. We were picking up pizza for a quiet night in our AirBnB in Trestavere, the quality pizza from Forno La Renella made it a memorable meal. read more

Sweet! If you're craving something sugary and need something to fill your sweet tooth, definitely check out the pastries they have in the front. They also had mini-pie/tarts that looked really good. I didn't get to try the pizza here since I already had dinner plans, but it was awesome to see them freshly making and baking it in the oven. YES. YES. YES. We just happened to pop in here for a snack while popping around Trastevere, but we found it was one of the most unique spots we went on our entire trip pizza-wise. We had this amazing red pizza with a bunch of herbs on it and it was our most talked about pizza through all of Italy. Also, their baked goods are nice. Super casual place full of locals coming in and out. If you've been to Rome, you know how hard it can be to find a genuine place to eat, but Forno La Renella is it. If you go, grab a crostatina. This is one of my "go-to" place for "to-go" pizza! Service is quick and the pizza is good. You know the place is legit when you notice the cracked glass wall that looks into the kitchen. Stores with too much decoration and lighting = an overpriced tourist joint. If there are Italians, great. Old Italians? You're in the right place. Service depends on who you get. Depending timing and their mood, you could walk away with a dried husk or a delicious filo di pane (baguette) fresh from the oven. Prices can be a bit high depending on what you order, but it's overall a little above the "average" range. I try to come by here to have some quality pizza/bread, not the oily or greasy kind served in the roundabout "pizza a taglio" joints. read more

I love Yelp so much, especially when it sends me to wonderful eateries like this one! We were taking an audio tour of the Trastevere and so I checked reviews of restaurants around that area. Thankfully I saw this place with good reviews. We walked in and it was crowded, we waiting a little bit but when it was our turn we were helped by a friendly woman. We pointed to the pizza we wanted and she asked how big a slice then weighed it and heated it up for us. We ordered the sausage and potato pizza, potato pizza, and focaccia sandwich with salami. It seems like a lot of food but they were small pieces. The pizza was delicious! Just what I imagined italian pizza would be like. The bread is so delicious! I am disappointed that I found this place this far into our trip, I plan another visit for sure before we leave. We got a large slice which was cut into 4 pieces of the sausage and potato pizza, a medium slice that was cut into 2 pieces of the potato pizza, and two small salami sandwiches with two pieces of their fresh focaccia to go with a coke zero for 12 euro. I love the feel of this place. Definitely come here if you are looking for an authentic Italian experience. Very little English is spoken and my friend and I were the only non-Italians. The only reason I gave it two stars is because, in comparison to other pizza places in Rome, the pizza here is mediocre. I like that some of the pizzas are on their delicious breads, but they still aren't anything special. If you do stop by, the best pizza is the sausage and potato pizza. It's one of the best bakery to get fresh right-out-of-the-oven bread in Trastevere and they make pizza too. They don't sell pizza by pre-cut slice here, they sell them by kg. Just tell them the size of slice you want and they just cut the pizza and put the slice on the scale. Love their varieties here. Their pizza bianca, potato pizza and zucchini flower pizza are genuine and delicious. I can't say they have the best pizza in Rome but it's a perfect place to have quick meal or get bread to go. It's always a good sign seeing kitchen staffs from the neighborhood restaurants popping in to get fresh loaves by dozens during the early evening hours. read more

Everything here is delicious. The bread is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside and very affordable. I have yet to try their pizza but it looks amazing. The customer service is outstanding as well, twice now I've gone in asking to try a small cookie and they've given both to me for free.
