I am at Forest General Hospital for over 9 hours. I am a double heart valve replacement patient and am defibrillator dependant for my heart rate . After COVID I developed defibrillator symptoms in the ventricular side of my heart and they can not correct so I take a medicine Mexilletine to help. This last couple weeks I developed a terrible cough. I went to an urgent care for it it and got some relief so I bought Mucinex Dm Max and unknown to me the active ingredient dextromethorphan interacts in a potentially deadly manner. Increased Toxicity: Because mexiletine inhibits the metabolism of dextromethorphan, the latter can build up in the body. This can lead to increased side effects, including hallucinations, dissociation, and central nervous system (CNS) toxicity. Serotonin Syndrome Risk: Dextromethorphan is a serotonergic agent. If combined with other drugs that increase serotonin, or if it builds up due to decreased metabolism, it can cause serotonin syndrome, a potentially life-threatening condition characterized by high body temperature, agitation, tremors, and coma. Cardiovascular Effects: Mexiletine is used for arrhythmias, and increasing its toxicity by interfering with its metabolism (though usually caused by other drugs reducing its metabolism) could lead to serious arrhythmia or cardiac side effects and possible coma. My experience with Forrest General was as a family member of someone with a very complex health problem that resulted in life threatening issues. Because it was not my medical problem i will not share specifics but I will share how happy I am that Forrest General is where we ended up. There was a significant amount of time spent there and every single person was very thorough, professional and kind. From the emergency room, ICU, med surg floor, and after care follow up and discharge planning. I even got support from the front desk in the ER at a very hard time for me. Non of this will be forgotten. This much smaller hospital totally rocked and outshined a much bigger hospital. Forrest General will be my hospital from now on. How is this hospital still up and running I don't understand it...... the wait time is absolutely ridiculous.... all these bad reviews and nothing is going to improve. Quality of care in er was down right disrespectful . I'm 56 and I had a terrible kidney infection in both kidneys. They wrote me off right away. No water or fluids for eight hours and then gave me strong pain medicine in which I asked the nurse not to put in my IV they figured ignoring me and throwing pain medication will make me happy like some drug addicted people. I just wanted to know what was going on with me because I was so sick. Three days later at home I became septic and still sick today trying to get rid of something that would have been easily done at the er. All I wanted was help and some respect from the prn, doctor and nurses but got the opposite. I even looked at my test results and mentioned one of them to the doctor and they said no that's only a trace of infection. Thank you so much for almost killing me because of ignorance. read more

Forrest General has the best Physical therapist Asad. My mother had not walked in 3 months and Asad encourage her to get up out of bed, the first time seeing her and she stood up with a walker and took 5 steps left to right. She was a CARE CENTER OF LAUREL MISSISSIPPI FOR 20 DAYS AND ONLY GOT OUT OF BED 3 TIMES. They didn't want or encourage her to do anything or eat .She was very weak and Dehighrate after leaving care center on February 21st 2023. She also felt out of the bed and the didn't take her to the hospital. read more

I brought my extremely lethargic 19 year old in Sunday morning at 2:30. We DID NOT even see a doctor...only a NP and RN. They did bloodwork and I could see on the results that her sodium was very low. Which made me think she was dehydrated. The NP was saying "she just feels cruddy bc of the pollen or whatever" and basically trying to cut us loose. I said "Can we give her some IV fluids?" He said "Sure, I can order that". After getting the IV fluids THAT I HAD TO ASK FOR, she was feeling closer to normal again so we left. I will never go to that ER again. The NP wasn't even going to offer fluids as an option to get her feeling better. When you go to the ER at 2:00 am, you are not there for the heck of it and should be taken seriously and seen by a real doctor! The NP wasn't even trying to get to the bottom of why she felt so bad. She had an infected finger that was healing and that's what her diagnosis was. They didn't even touch her finger because it was better and not the issue! It was dehydration, and they were going to let us walk out of there without treating her with fluids. What a joke this place was. NEVER AGAIN. read more

I visited er with conditions associated with diagnosis confirmed by my neurologist. Ms Angela Hales, DO ignored that diagnosis, insisted on her own and eventually discharged me with unconfirmed diagnosis. She also gave me an antagonist to the medication that would have helped me, resulting in my ending up back in the er the next day. Thankfully a doctor that respected me was on duty. Horrible care in the ED !!! Very rude triage RN wanted to do my lab which I appreciated to get things going but wouldn't let me lie down on the stretcher for the blood draw. I explained that I get a little dizzy and faint but recover quickly. She said, "forget it I won't draw it you're going back to waiting room you can wait. " I waited 4 more hours with acute abdominal pain , vomiting, and nausea. I finally got in the room it took another 45 minutes to get my labs drawn and results. My IV was started but I had to go to CT and they disconnected it not covering the connection to insure sterility. I got nothing for pain nothing for nausea even though severe pain and vomiting. I was Diagnosed with acute abdomen and told I needed continuous IV's , antibiotics, pain medicine, nausea medicine, NPO, and to be admitted. My saline bag was empty and I had to call 3 times and the 4th time the Charge Nurse Nicole to try and get another one hung. Was told she would tell my nurse Dianna but it still took an hour . I was NPO and with vomiting dehydrated. Seems to me fluids are essential without fail . I still 11 hours later in the ED no antibiotics, and no IV saline hung since initial one and it's supposed to be continuous. This is the worse care ever how is it you can be treated so horribly when so very sick. Absolutely no continuity of care and zero quality or care. I pray I get a room soon maybe it will be bettet . I heard Forest General ED was not good from the community but now have experienced it first hand. read more

I'd give them zero stars if I could. I waited 5 hours to see a dr for a serious MRSA (methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus) in my temple. I've had it since I was 23 so when I go to the er I know what to typically expect. The infection was so bad that I had a migraine for three days from the pressure on my temple and when they looked at it they originally didn't want to drain it. I basically had to demand that they drain it. They were worried that I'd have a scar. That's why they didn't want to cut me. The nurse didn't pack it properly and didn't bother covering it either so by the time I got home I had yuck running down my face and had to cover it myself. The packing came out when I was changing the bandage the next morning and it looked like she just shoved it in there and hoped it stayed. It shouldn't have come out when it did. The nurse I will say tried to be as gentle as possible seeing how she couldn't numb me all the way. I was then instructed to continue taking the same antibiotics that I had been on for 3 weeks that were obviously not working given pain meds and told to take bleach baths which I tried telling the lady I have a stall shower. The entire time that I spoke to the dr he was very dismissive and didn't seem to care and just wanted me to leave. I left my home at 10:30 pm and didn't get home until 6am and all they did was drain one abscess which took 5 minutes. Don't go her for anything serious. They won't help you and they have no idea what they are even talking about a majority of the time it seems. My bf went to this hospital last year for breathing problems because he has COPD and they should have given him a COVID test but they told him that they don't do them there and basically said yep you're sick sucks to be you and sent him home. My aunt went the next day for an issue with her nerves and they gave her a COVID test and didn't do much else accept tell her to see her pcp because they didn't know what was wrong with her. So my mother has been seeing the wound care at Forrest general hospital. They are the worst every. I tried for months to get my mother to change doctors and finally she did. Best thing she ever did. I would not take a wounded dog to them. The lady doctor or what ever she calls herself is a joke. Her nurse is a bigger joke. I called him a tool holder cause basically all he did was hold her tools. Basically nothing, about like titts on a boar hog. She would see 6 different people to basically unwrap her wound look at it and re wrap it and say see you in two weeks. If that's not a money making business what is. As a Paramedic, I had a unique peek behind THAT particular curtain. I arrived due to an acute case of food poisoning. It was bad. I was so badly dehydrated that nobody could find any veins to start an IV. They tried and finally got one. The staff was very friendly! Very courteous and professional. They did take very good care of me and by the time I was discharged, I was feeling much better. Once the ball was rolling, my care was more prompt but they were a little slow with the anti-nausea meds. I was on about my third vomiting episode while being there before the Zofran arrived. Not a moment too soon... I sounded like an angry seal the way my throat was raw from the puking and dry heaves. Two liters of saline and I did feel better. However.. one concern. They did send me for an ultrasound. After being wheeled through the hospital (those twists and turns do WONDERS if you're nauseated), get to ultrasound, get in the bed, confirm all your information.. I ask what they are ultrasounding? Gallbladder and possible stones? If you find any.. I call dibs on writing the paper! My gallbladder was removed 20 years ago! Needless to say, they were quite embarrassed. It was all good and we all had a good laugh about it. These people work hard, especially now, and deserve Kudo's. Thanks! read more

HORRIBLE RUDE PEOPLE! My fiancé went in for extreme back pain and numbness! They acted like he wasn't in serious need for help. Barely checked on him and were more concerned over talking about their day. He needed an MRI. But since he wasn't and I quote "a stroke patient or having paralysis" it wasn't needed. Aug 15 I called the ambulance to come get me after 5 days of throwing up and heaving I couldn't take it anymore. after arriving i explained my symptoms and my medical history after the ct scan dr told me I had an inflamed gallbladder. after I met the doctor that was going to perform my surgery I was sent home 12 hours after my surgery with some pain medicine and told I can eat a regular diet after I get home I eat a hotdog that evening. I wake up Thursday morning I am in severe pain in my neck in my head shoulders. I called the doctors office to try to get someone to see me because the pain medicine that they sent me home with is not working, and I had head trauma from a previous abusive relationship from a couple years ago and I had told the doctors in the ER this the doctor and the nurse basically said they tried to call me. Call me back all day Thursday, but they were calling the wrong phone number I was in told to come in and meet with Dr. Wesley at the Hattiesburg Clinic that Friday morning around 830. I get there at 8:30 but when Dr. Wesley walked in I told him that I was in a lot of pain around my neck and my head and my shoulders felt like I had a pulled muscle in and my chest and shoulders area and he basically just called me a liar. He said I had no pulled muscles. There's nothing wrong with me. He looked at the the stitches said everything looked fine. I'm not giving you any more pain medicine Tina so basically he just shot me down and called me a liar so I ended up having to come back home and called an ambulance at 4:30 that afternoon and was admitted in that night my potassium was very low anyway as it was kind of the same story and then I was it had to call an ambulance again this morning, and I have herniated discs in my neck that were aggravated during the surgery but the doctor did not explain any of this to me. He just basically just called me a liar and just so eager testicle not on top of that but I was also asked after my surgery if I would have used meth before never use meth in my life and I asked him why would you ask me that he said because that can tend to cause gallbladder issues well OK so does abuse when you're physically abused for a couple of years so that was kind of his ego when I came in he thought I'm there seeking pain medicine and basically calling me a liar very eager, testicle very rude never again I would never go and see that man ever again, and yeah and I'll be finally more complaints because it's called adder all and it's my prescription and he knew that before even asking me but never again he was awful. dr. Very simply, this is the best hospital in the Pine Belt. It is a 512 bed facility that offers excellent care to its patients. My mother was here for two extended visits in ICU and I was impressed with her level of care. The doctors, nurses and staff are all professional and the facilities first rate. I think this facility would equal any other hospital in MS including Jackson and the Coast. read more

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr.Amrullah Alsatu for treating my husband who had covid. His expertise saved my husbands life. We are residents from Gulfport. I took him to Memorial Hospital in Gulfport and they released him with medications that did not work. He was in terrible shape. If it had not been for your professional staff, I really believe he would not have reached a speedy recovery. When we arrived at your hospital we were greeted by the security guard who escorted my husband to the ER. He was very friendly and he answered all my concerns. My daughter was injured and had two seizures from the injury. I took her to the forest health in Picayune (highland) her head injury was never assessed. they just stuck her in an mri and told us it was norma. The nurse putting her iv in DROPPED HER TEGADERM DRESSING ON THE FLOOR and then proceeded to put it on top of her open iv wound. Id have come unglued on him if I knew I had enough will power to not get us kicked out before my daughter was "treated". this place is a joke. unless you are actively dying right that moment, they do not give a raggedy flying hooya about anything but their paycheck. My husband took a friend of his to Forest General hospital today for some tests, and while on the elevator, trying to figure out where the needed to go, a nurse started making fun of the way his friend talked. Came here a few months ago to visit my dying grandmother, and Forrest made us feel so loved. They made sure to take generous care of my grandmother until she passed. And since we were there for so long, the doctor even gave all of us (5+ people) free food vouchers for the cafeteria downstairs. About 1 month ago I came into the emergency room with shortness of breath2 ER doctors I was not a big fan of because they tried to send me home when I'm going into sinus tachycardia but then my mom which is an ICU nurse used to work at this hospital which will never work there again,mom told the doctor know you're not sending my son home with a heart rate of 157 beats per minute he said to her in a rude disrespectful way. Excuse my language, okay ma'am have it your damn way just admit him my mom and sister were not happy at all with the way he treated my family and I if I were you I would go elsewhere this place is a joke I would not come to this ER again despite waiting an hour and 30 minutes to be taken to a room and instead of giving me xopenex which is always been my go-to they gave me albuterol twice which one made my heart rate go up the roof. Worst experience ever! I took my 44 yr old husband into the emergency room, he has relapsing and remitting multiple sclerosis. We got there at 8:30 pm last night. We were took to the back to triage fairly quick.! Once they got his vitals we were put n another room where we sit for almost 3 hours. The doctor doing her residency came in introduced herself as Meagen Taylor. Asked all the normal questions. Smacking on her gum the whole time (this is very unprofessional and uncalled for). My husband has been having this relapse now on day 10, he has eaten no more than a handful of food during this time. He's having trouble getting up and his legs being steady. The " doctor" said once we told her everything going on from the vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite... She had the nerve to say we will figure it out.... After another 30 minutes of waiting on them to " figure" things out, we left. We do plan on going back in the morning after shift change and hopefully it will be with an experienced doctor and hopefully not a repeat of last night My husbands multiple sclerosis is relapsing and remitting multiple sclerosis.. It's not that hard people , he needs the 5 days of meds they give thru a iv and a medrol dose pack ! I have done diagnosed and treated him in way less time then 3 hours.! Also, it should be a rule no gum or candy in your mouth while entering a patience room. It's disgusting and very unprofessional. When I took my husband to the bathroom. There were a couple of aides sitting at the computers with there backs to one another. The black guy told the white girl when working the night shift it leaves no sex life. This is crazy... Between the long wait, a doctor that is very inexperienced and the two conversing about there sexy life, we left. We are going back in the am and hopefully there will be other doctors real " doctors " I sure hope we do not get billed for this little emergency room visit cause all we did was entertained one another. Forrest General Hospital has a We CARE policy... unfortunately Im pretty sure that they don't really care about anything other than the paycheck that they are receiving from being employed. I have been to this hospital several times myself, with my child, with my husband, brother, mother in law, and i worked for them several years ago. The problem with The hospital isn't so much the floors after being admitted into the hospital, the problem is in the ER (which is the busiest place in the hospital) when people are hurting or very sick, the staff at the hospital are rude, and inconsiderate. They sit behind their desk talking about what they did over the weekend or what they plan on doing their next day off. i hear more laughing and giggling out of the employees then necessary when the most important thing to them should be the patient they are giving care to!
