OTOH, it is more often than not filled with insufferably loud, obnoxious teenagers and adolescents. I love the idea of kids pursuing knowledge, but too often it's used as a pretext to turn a building utilized by many others for its intended purpose into a teen hangout. It's worth visiting if you're in Stapleton, but be warned. Don't go there for an hour of quiet contemplation and study. At least, not after 2 PM on a weekday.

I got to know all the old library workers and they treated us like family (there were a few who were nasty, but every place has one of those). I loved it there. It was like a second home. When it closed down for 'renovation', I was crushed. I didn't think it would ever open back up again, but just a few years back, I noticed they fixed it up and hired an entire new crew. I have to say, though I loved the old time-y, rustic feel of the original library, the new version isn't all that bad. It even comes complete with some really nice librarians. Well worth the visit.

The library has two floors and the second is designated to be the Children's Library with reading content suitable for the younger set. The main floor has computer access and complimentary WiFi for those who wish to bring their own device in and have some relative quiet surroundings. It's not too quiet on the Children's floor I am afraid and it made me laugh at how much has changed on that since I was that age and in the library. I've not taken any books out of a library in many years but still have a library card just in case I need something. My reason for being here was for the WiFi and to sit for a few minutes to update my work laptop with some information on the work I was doing. The staff seems very friendly and helpful which is always good to observe.

When I approached the employee about getting a replacement card, she didn't seem overly eager to assist. Nonetheless I got my replacement and when I went upstairs, I noticed how loud it was. Kids running around, loud voices from kids and parents, one person cells was going off very loudly. I ventilations I got fed up, and departed ewrlier than I had anticipated. In my former library staff would gently walk around and ask people to please lower their voices, maybe said policy needs to implemented here because this isn't an environment that would allow kids to be in a peaceful and normal library setting.

The NYPL isn't just loaded with books they have CD's, DVD's, magazines, newspapers, copiers, computers, and most importantly printers for when you run out of ink at home (happened to me countless times). I think what sets these locations apart is the size of the library, how quiet it actually is, whether or not its clean, and how dated its become keeping in mind that these places are publicly funded and change is hard to come by. I find this location to be pretty clean, quiet, but it is sort of dated. The building looks like it was influenced by some sort of 80's architecture. All in all this a good library but certainly not the NYPL's gem. I'd suggest this place and look forward to more reads!

After having a grueling year in public school my daughter thrived at BAA. Noah is a real gem and always has a cool project or game up his sleeve. At BAA my daughters engaged in geocaching, tree-climbing, Lego-building, improv games, music class, swing-building, glue-gun projects, woodworking, painting, running a real restaurant, capoeira, yoga, fort-building... not to mention the awesome field trips around NYC and beyond. If you are considering taking your child out of the school they're in or already homeschooling, take a look at BAA and it will expand your mind as to what children are capable of and what a school can be.

Currently this clean, open location is a hub for Covid vaccines for seniors. The staff is solid, the vast gym hall has spread out seating for safe and quick treatments. There are working water fountains and spotless restrooms. This was a safe and good experience today. There is a private parking lot adjacent to the building. Loved that there were 4 spots open when I pulled in today at 12:30 pm. The Community center has been a Voting location, hosted basketball tournaments, had naturalization ceremonies, seminars, health and exercise classes and social get togethers. A Universal center with multipurpose functionality!! I did not see anything closely resembling "Brownsville is the murder capital of New York" or "Brownsville has consistently held one of the highest poverty and crime rates of any neighborhood in New York City" today at or around this location or at the restaurant that served us a memorable meal a mile away. I just got another great taste of one of the five boroughs of the City that I love!!

To this day, a highlight was walking to the library, on my birthday having turned 12. They finally gave me an adult card. One of the happiest days of my life.
