The cavernous drill hall and structural interior designed by Tiffany, Stanford White, and other famous names is a marvel of engineering. If you are a history buff, and military aficionado they offer guided tours here. The armory is a designated National Historic Landmark and on the National Resister of Historic Places.

I have also been through the historic landmark at a time when access was easier. You will need to contact them for tour information. Things have changed during the pandemic. It's a love-hate relationship I have with this historic landmark. I'm not a fan of looking at mainly military portraits. I usually don't look at them when I go to an event. I did take these photos for you to get an idea of the decor. I love the old radiators and lighting fixtures. I also like the wooden railings. The furnishings take me back to another place in time. I'm not fond of the dreary dark lighting. It's spooky leading me to believe I wouldn't want to be here at night. There is a woman's shelter located somewhere in the building it's a huge place. If you enjoy this sort of thing check it out.

We've visited both in the winter and recently in the spring, and each season offered a different experience. On our latest visit, we took the short, manageable trail to the beach area with our dog. Walking among the towering hundred-year-old trees felt magical, almost like stepping back in time. The beach views were incredibly serene, and we even got to witness two deer running freely through the forest, chasing each other. This place is more than just a historic site, it gives you an awe-inspiring feeling. Between the peaceful scenery, rich history, and natural beauty, it felt like we were transported to another time. The house itself can be toured with timed guided tours Friday through Sunday. These open for reservation 9:30a online for the same day and ate usually sold out in minutes so plan accordingly! I can't comment on the house since I did not snag tickets when I naively went. However, the grounds are beautiful and the walk down to the forested loop trail with the beach outlet to the harbor is stunning. There is also a museum onsite that is free to visit and enter. It contains history of the family's home life, initial political career in NY state, and Vice Presidency and Presidency, issues he championed, and post Presidency conservation work and legacy.

This is "grab a fancy snack because you're already in the building" territory, not "do your weekly shop" territory. Your wallet will feel the difference. Worth knowing if you're looking for it today: this got renamed the Deutsche Bank Center back in 2021, though the shops and that pricey Whole Foods are all still there. Nice place to wander. Just maybe eat before you visit the grocery store.

Even Time Warner changed its name to Warner Media after it was acquired by AT&T, so I guess I have to get used to it like most things I hate. I just think Time Warner has a certain snap to its name and the mass media cachet that a multinational bank simply doesn't. The Shops at Columbus Circle are gratefully still here, especially to people who actually buy stuff, although some of the shops have left like Amazon Books. Thomas Keller's Per Se is still there though it's as unattainable as it's always been. Whole Foods has also survived in the basement because presumably the filthy rich owners of the luxurious residential units above still need a convenient place for their domestics to get their groceries. Jamie W. and I are just grateful the public restrooms are kept in immaculate condition. They're making new laws all the time! This morning I was looking for the law that requires landlords to keep the heat on through May 31st. I'm glad when it's turned off. My apartment is small and gets the morning sun so it's hot until sundown. There's flexibility in the law but in a high rise turning the heat on and off when the temperature whiplash comes is just not possible. Believe me I asked! So I'm hanging on looking forward to June 1st. In the meantime my daughter is going to help me get the insulation out of the window so she can also help me get the window open!! I've been all around this country as I'm lucky enough that my career has offered many chances to experience other cities. Many other places have their pro's and are terrific cities in their own right, but none compares to the vibe and feel of New York. The first thing I do when I get back from a trip is to hit my local NYC pizza joint or get some bagels as its a must. Plus, New York is a huge state. So many cool town and cities to explore north and west of NYC by train or car. Plenty to do and experience. Summer and Fall in New York up there is beautiful. Yeah, NYC can be a bit dirty, grimy, a bit brusque and at times aggravating but that's part of the charm. If you can't handle it you don't belong here.

(if you walk your dog, pls pick up after it) it is also a great place to trick or treat! the neighborhood has an annual halloween parade on Albemarle Rd. built by Dean Alvord in 1899, the neighborhood contains Prospect Park South Historic District, designated by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1979 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
