My husband wanted to come here for his birthday so my daughters and I reluctantly obliged and granted him his birthday wish. It was a beautiful fall day and the weather was perfect. To my surprise, my teens enjoyed walking around the grounds as well as the "wheel of fate". I enjoyed the scenic views while capturing the joy our visit to Fort Meigs brought my family. Came from NY to check out Fort Meigs while we were visiting family here. We came on a Thursday and it was slow. We didn't make it in time for the tour, but there are tours here! Just make sure to check out the schedule ahead of time! Family friendly-with lots of activities for adults and kids. We did a few photo hunt for the museum and the fort, which was entertaining. Wheelchairs are available-at no additional rental cost. read more

This fort is fabulous. It's restored. Outside the wooden fence is a large treed area for picnics and relaxing. The visitor's center has a museum about the Revolutionary War with posters and artifacts. The fort has four exhibit blockhouses. This is the largest restored stockade fort in North America. Special re-enactments and events take place throughout the year. Tours are daily at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The center is opened all year round. The fort is open April through October, for ghost tours. This is near I 475. Do a visit. read more

I'm here visiting from The Great State of Texas and happen to discover this hidden treasure. Why not stop by and check this place out. It's incredible, you walk around and get a real feel for what life was back in the day. The walk is filled with historical facts and the feeling I got was as if I was walking back in time. I did a self tour but I would recommend a guided tour. After plenty of walking I went into the indoor museum where there was a lot to see. A special thank you to Ashley. I used to sled here as a kid, no better place. Very frowned upon these days. I was also married under a giant tree here and had our reception under a big tent we put up in the fort overlooking the river. It's really quite lovely here and an excellent location for an outdoor wedding. There is a small museum that shows the history and a gift shop. It's something you should go see at least once if you live in the area. read more

Located in Perrysburg and not far from I-75, this is a wonderful family-friendly place that recreates the former War of 1812 era fort on the same location. The recreated fort (admission sticker required) is full of vibrant informational signs and the wooden structures are used to educate about the life, hardships, and mission of the soldiers that once occupied (and often died at) this fort. Flags fly above silent cannon, gun loopholes remain quiet but ready, and the lone obelisk memorial stands proudly in the center of it all. Some of the fort's former soldiers and officers are buried in/around the fort as well. Check the schedule (online) for special events such as demonstrations and historical reenactments throughout the year. The visitor center includes a gift shop, museum, and a friendly help desk. Worth the $8 admission (regular adult fare) to help this good cause. TIP: Don't judge this place by it website! As of 2012 the website presentation needs to be updated because it makes this great place look a bit comical or tacky and doesn't do it justice. read more

Absolutely AMAZING!!! This is a MUST for anyone going to Toledo! I'm not a huge history buff, but this tour is absolutely unbelievable!! You really get a true sense of what it was like!!! Real artifacts, clothing etc on display. It was quite surreal. There's even a guy in one of the buildings that is dressed in full war attire and has all the answers to all of your questions! He was extremely fascinating!!! He went outside and shot off one of the guns for us. You won't be let down when coming here! It's worth every penny!!! read more

The museum has a large variety of items and explains the war. They also have blockhouses with more displays. The cannons are awesome! I went to First Siege and they have a huge battle at that event. I have also been to a timeline event they have where they have soldiers from all wars and so many things to see! read more

Touring Fort Meigs is particularly interesting now because of the bicentennial of the War of 1812. The fort played an especially important role as a turning point for the Americans during the war, and there are lots of events planned to commemorate that this year and next (much of the action at Fort Meigs took place in 1813). We tagged along for the first part of one of the school tours and caught up with another school tour partway through our own tour of the fort. The costumed reenactors leading the tours were very knowledgeable and held the attention of the elementary-school classes throughout the hour-plus tour. It is about a mile walk around the perimeter of the fort with several stops along the way at blockhouses set up with exhibits about military camp life, the building of the fort, and other topics. The visitors center has a small museum focusing on Ohio's early years, Ohio history and the story of how archeologists unearthed a lot of the 1812-era artifacts on display. A small memorial garden dedicated to the memory of those who died at the fort sits a bit off of the path between the visitors center and the fort on a bluff overlooking the Maumee River. It's a nice place to end your visit and relax (we sat there a spell to let a school group get into the museum ahead of us). The reconstructed fort is open seasonally (not open during the winter months), but the visitors' center is open year round. Good for families, military and regional history buffs, photographers. read more
