We had a great time and were treated very well. We visited the Military Museum and afterwards attended a gun show of antiques firearms. Some of these items are so intricately made and engraved, they're like works of art. They had antique firearms and more recent displays from all over the world. Been here a few times and most recently we were lucky it had just snowed the day prior, so we enjoyed ourselves in nice cold weather! Fort tuthill offers cabins, hotel rooms, camp sites and yurts. We rented the A Frame rustic cabin which has a bedroom with 1 large bed, another bedroom had two twin beds upstairs and a pull out in the living. Full restroom and full kitchen. Prices have increased substantially in my opinion, but there is plenty of space so you could split the costs if you have to join you. They have Peak and Off-peak rates.... It's only for military and families (active, reserve, retired, etc). They also have smaller studio cabins, a larger cabin that fits up to 12 and some pet friendly units. The grounds are beautiful...for the outdoor enthusiasts, hiking, skiing (seasonal) nearby.... Staff was friendly, large fireplace in the lobby, along with a small convenience area where you can get snacks, beer, coffee and more. Great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors! read more

We have stayed at Ft Tuthill a couple of different times and each time is pleasant and fun. I like that the site is limited to military personnel and the prices are a lot more reasonably priced. We have stayed in a couple different RV and Tent sites and all were nice and well maintained. I also like the addition of a playground, dog area and coffee shop if you like that. Came to Flagstaff on a MLK Holiday Weekend, and Snow Bowl wasn't just in the cards for us this weekend. Lift tickets $150 each! So, we decided on trying some other fun snow play activities. We pre-purchased our tickets online, and the snow park was sold out for day and night tubing. So, there were no walk ups available. Highly recommend pre-purchasing, especially with such a strong season of snow this year. We were signed up for 6-9pm session and they do not open up the check in windows until 6pm ON THE DOT! Although the evening sledding was sold out, the sled lines were very reasonable and not long waits. There are NO magic carpet rides up the hill to the sled starting point. The tubes all have leashes, and there are turf mats that help make dragging up the tube easier. But some of the runs can be quite the workout just getting to the top - TEAL!!! But of course, what goes up must come down, and the ride down is fun! The staff were all very attentive on the runs ensuring all tubers were safe. There is an outdoor food truck on site that provides hot beverages - hot cocoa, cider and special coffee drinks. S'mores packets to make at the outdoor firepit. And picnic tables. We had a great time. We'd definitely come again and recommend. read more

We reserved a spot here to get away on a couple of days of furlough from work due to covid. We could not stay the first night because my husband had an adverse affect from a medication the doctor gave him. He felt better the next day, so we came for the second night. On the way, I noticed on their "policies" sheet that if you don't come the first night, they will give the spot to someone else with no refund. I called the number on the policy sheet handed to us by the camp host when we came to check the place out a month earlier. The number got me to another campground manager, so she contacted this camp host's wife who called me & said they will not keep your site unless you show up within 24 hours or call - none of these new instructions were on the sheet that was handed to us. When we arrived, there was trash at our site. The camp host showed up at our site after he received a phone call from the original woman who explained they used to be affiliated with them. It's all very confusing. I explained the sheet was not updated with the correct phone number & pointed out the trash. He responded by saying' "I'm sorry our camp is sub par for you." Really!? I went onto correct him about the trash in the site & the poor, outdated information given of which they've had 9 months to update. . Not sure he heard that the second time. I also handed him the sheet without his number on it - the same one he said their direct number was on. I'm afraid it fell on deaf ears..& eyes. But he did have a mask on which they are very particular about here in the outdoors. Our neighbors had a German Shepherd not on a leash. That was a nice touch with our 2 dogs on leashes. read more

We really enjoy coming up to Tuthill a few times every year to enjoy the snow or escape the Phoenix heat. We've stayed in the "hotel" and a Yurt, but our preference is the cabins. They're not fancy or opulent, but they're quite cozy and serve our purpose. The staff is always great, and the lobby area is well stocked with most things you could need. They have rental sporting equipment, and the area is beautiful, quiet and relaxing. There are plenty of trails for hiking and biking, an archery range, Frisbee golf and the Flagstaff Adventure course is right next door. There's something for everyone to rnjoy here. Someone in the party must have a military ID of some form to access the area. If you need a quiet getaway, I highly recommend it. read more

This review is for the Fort Tuthill MILITARY campground located at the Fort Tuthill county park. It is managed by the Luke AFB intended for active duty, retired, or service-connected disabled non-retiree veterans only, civilians cannot use unless as guests of the above. They have a LARGE single family home, cabins, yurts, a hotel, RV camping and tent camping available. They have excellent services for all and the rates are excellent. It's not the Marriot but most of the guest services personnel try their best to make your stay comfy and convenient (not all, but most are pleasant and so their best to help). Bathrooms, showers and laundry are included for campers. RV sites have full hookups (20, 30 & 50 amp). You're surrounded by Nat Forest with miles of walking and cycling trails. And best of all - to me - the Pepsi Amphitheatre is less than 100 yards away where great bands play thru the year. During my last stay, invited a few local friends and we saw 311 in concert! Highly recommend this place - a gem for military connected folks. read more

First time here at this campsite. Heard so much about it from friends & I am truly impressed with the place. It's not too big or not too small but it's the perfect size. It is well laid out for people to navigate to get to their respective locations. They offer yurts, cabins, A-frames, tent sites, RV parking & even has hotel rooms. I'm surprised by how few reviews are actually written here about Ft. Tuthill...(Military Campground) For starters, It's not the upper northwest so don't expect the spacious freedom of the camp 'spots' you might expect. You're cramped to say the least and everything can be heard; be mindful! We've stayed in the Yurts and for a measly $50.00 you get two windows, electricity, a fridge, a stove (only useable based on the amount of water the local area has in rainfall) and a microwave. Restrooms are Port-a-Johns nearby. The Yurts aren't sterile, they are however, a step up from building your own tent/campsite and get a lockable walk-in door with a sky light that is for some, openable. Our was defective. I love these Yurts though some may not! What's nice about the interior is you're equipped with two bunk beds and if it gets too chilly at night, stop by the Main Desk and ask for a complimentary plug in heater that works silently and perfectly at night. If a Yurt doesn't work for you, don't worry, they have 'A' Frame cabins or just bring your own tent or RV. The 'RV sites close by Oct 15 and reopen on May 1st. The campgrounds ALSO close in the winter but the cabin and hotel part still remains open. The showers for campers are definitely adequate and allow you to clean up and brush your toofees and help get a good nights rest. Often, there can be a local attraction (like a beerfest or concert) just aside from the campground which is cool because it's walking distance obviously. This review is simple and to the point for the fact that Ft. Tuthill, as far as military campgrounds go is a nice break from the heat of Phoenix and Tucson so take it in that sense and enjoy it, we sure did! read more

The campground is weirdly set up and is lined with chalk but there's plenty of things to do. Looks like they were having a musical festival the day I was leaving. Picking pines bluegrass. They have wood available which is nice and convenient. The only negative thing I have to mention is the camp host riding around on the golf cart patrolling asked us multiple times how many nights we were staying and don't forget to check out on time? Check out is 11:00AM and we are traveling so we were out early. We were also outside enjoying the fire and the camp host on the golf cart seemed to be watching us! I was invited to the Blues Brews and BBQ event recently, August 2021. The blues band was set up center stage with many chairs around the stage -- most spectators opting to grab a chair and cluster into their formidable parties on the very open and spacious lawn. The band played great! I don't listen to the blues often so that was awesome and very relaxed. We sat under a large porched area against the back entrance to the hotel. The beer vendors were set up perfectly for us to sample beer and see the stage with plenty of shade. We ended up spending about $50 for admission and beer sample coupons, $20 for two six packs of beer, $40 on bar-b-q, $130 on the king size hotel room. When it got darker the fire pit was lit up and about half a dozen of us hovered here quite a while. We enjoyed the safe, open, clean and friendly outdoor environment from the moment we arrived at 4pm until we headed to our room at 10pm. Our room was very clean. The sheets smelled clean. The fridge stored my left over bar-b-q and there was a microwave to heat it up... the shower water stayed hot and nice! There was not air conditioning in the room but the high was around 80 low was 71 so no big deal because the ceiling fan worked great and was not loud! We were facing the parking lot on the second floor but it was not a stress at all because the lot is secured and contained with no busy roads or streets nearby (and in the trees). I left a $5 tip for the housekeeping, the entire staff deserves a tip, and more than $5, honestly. They seemed like a great, happy and knowledgeable team. read more

Had a big family vacation here last month! Beautiful place to stay & very close to all our favorite things! I stayed in the yurt which was AMAZING (def my favorite way to stay). Very spacious & got a nice breeze (it was very hot out but perfect inside the yurt). My sister's stayed in the cabin... Cute, small, had a swamp cooler to keep cool, & a kitchenette to have family bfasts! My grandma stayed in the hotel... Great for her who wanted her own little space. My Aunt & Uncle stayed at an RV site... Level, shaded by trees, & near all the amenities! Kinda bummed the prices have increased by so much but really nice to have so many ways to stay! Ft Tuthill military lodging is ridiculously overpriced. No AC, no pool, no fitness center, no continental breakfast nothing for $130 a night. Complete rip off of our retirees. We really enjoyed visiting this park for some easy access cross country skiing. On a Monday in January after a decent snow, the park was quite busy with families using the man-made hills for sledding, people were also using the tree platforms for rope walking - quite a slight, I had no idea the park had these overhead platforms. Despite the sledding crowds, we only saw one other cross country skier. We headed north on a portion of the FUTS trail in the center of the park near the main parking area, then went along the northern and western boundary following the Soldiers Trail. The trails were not groomed but were well marked at intersections and we followed one set of pre existing tracks. Unfortunately the previous skier did not do the whole ~4 mile loop and it was our first time in the park, so we also cut our ski excursion short. I would definitely come back here to ski in the future as it is easy to get to and is open every day of the week. We love the Flagstaff Nordic Center for skiing but it is only open half of the week so this is a good option for a quick Monday-Wednesday ski. read more

This campground is a military campground right next to the county campground. Our dogs loved it. The spots are wooded and all different sizes but we were in site 3 pull thru. Water and electric only but the is a dump station on site. The camp host (Paw) was super friendly and helpful. He helped us pull in without overwhelming my husband and was friendly throughout our stay. We felt like we were family! Our only regret is that we did not stay longer. This campground has been built to try to maximize the existing trees. Because of this, it's heavily treed at each campsite and the roads are a little narrow and squirrelly. Each site had a picnic table and fire pit. The camp hosts are very attentive and friendly. The trash receptacles are large enough that nothing is overflowing. I do recommend that people be very careful maneuvering around the site. A few years ago we brushed a tree limb with our motorhome and busted the side - this most recent visit we saw someone back into a tree. I also wish that the campsites and road were more clearly distinguished. read more

My family gathered at Ft Tuthill for the past 16 years for our annual family reunion. As the retired military person I reserved all units required. Usually 6-7 different units. This year the new manager stated there is a limit of 3 reserved units per sponsor. Also, the "no smoking anywhere on property" will be enforced. I've stayed here maybe 5 times over the last 15 years and each time, I leave feeling grateful. This incredible camping ground offers excellent pricing and a place for military to get away from the heat and noise. I've met amazing people every time I've been here. I recommend brining an extra blanket or pillows if you are a little fussy like me and want more than a few, but they have all of these. Stayed here two nights in a yurt. The campground is pet friendly & it was easy to take our dog for a walk behind our yurt in the trail. The shower building was clean & convenient porta potties nearby too. You could borrow board games from the hotel. We stayed at the civilian campground and were very disappointed. The campground spots are very close together, hosts don't enforce noise violations and the aroma of portable toilets wafts throughout. I honestly don't know what you get for the money it costs to stay here. Might as well just pull over on a random forest road. I guess if you are going to the adventure park or the biking park it's convenient, but that's about it. Maybe the military side is better because it couldn't get much worse. read more

Needs a serious cleaning.. My family and I enjoy staying at Fort Tuthill for the surroundingamenities. We have stayed here twice already this year, once in November and once in December 2020. Each time we stayed in a different A frame. The structures are old, but the bathroom was updated a couple of years ago. We appreciate they provide an oven, microwave, decent sized fridge, dishes and utensils. I would advise anyone who uses the tableware and utensils to complete a thorough cleaning prior as guests are asked to clean them. It's clear that the guest prior to us did not clean them well at all. The coffee pot did not work and you'll need to provide your own coffee. If you prefer a clean place to stay, we cannot recommend anyone stay here. The pictures speak for themselves (filthy oven, caked-on dust inside the loud heaters, dust build up on window sills, shower grime, grease buildup on cupboards, etc..). Also, the bedding is in poor condition with holes in the blankets. The twin bed is falling apart so metal is hanging out from underneath the bed. The kitchen sink drips constantly. Light bulbs are missing from lamps. Also, if you need to use the restroom after checkout, good luck. I was told by the female employee there were no facilities I could use. Therefore, do yourself a favor and ask for the bath house key code when you check-in. I hope this review helps both facility maintenance personnel and potential guest. read more

Great site, reasonably well laid out. Good filtered shade from the pines. Our site was near the rear, adjacent to the adventure zip lining - this was very entertaining for the kids. Lots of good hiking trails not too far out. Seems to be a wonderful place for bicycling - lots of people were prepared for that. My husband is a medically retired army combat veteran. We just had things fall on us very spontaneously, and we will be in Northern AZ for a long period of time. Adrian/Adrianna, was very rude to us on the phone when asking questions. She was short and had a tone that came off as if our questions annoyed her or she just didn't have the time. When I asked for her name, she seemed very hesitant. I just would expect to hear more friendless and politeness, especially when someone is employed to work with our country's military. I had more questions for her, but I could tell she didn't want to help over the phone. I wanted to check more dates of availability, but I didn't want to continue to converse with someone who seemed to be having an off day. So, alas, my husband and I will not be staying in Ft. Tuthill. Perhaps she was just having a bad day, or maybe my high pitch voice annoyed her, regardless, I'm embarrassed and upset that I couldn't retrieve all the information I was trying to get from another adult. I feel as if this instance was devoid of compassion or understanding. It's completely different than any experience we've had before; most military lodging employs kind, rational, and accepting individuals. I've never had a problem like this before, so I genuinely hope someone talks to her, or perhaps she just had a bad day.! read more

Just realized I haven't given this place a review which is crazy since my husband and I have stayed here numerous times and have always had a blast! We have stayed in a yurt numerous times. The yurt has electricity, microwave, small refrigerator, a table with 4 chairs, alarm clock, a wood stove and two bunk beds with plenty of bedding they keep in a plastic tub for you to use depending on how many are staying. They have a few garbage cans. Basically the basics. The mattresses are something you might find at a summer camp but my husband and I always take two mattresses and just make a nice cozy bed on the floor by the wood stove. If you get a yurt they will give you a key so you have access to free firewood that they keep chopped in a shed close by. You also get a key to the washrooms located across from the lodge where they have showers and bathrooms. They also have a few port a potties close by. Outside the yurts they have a picnic table and also a small charcoal grill to cook on. They are spread out just a little bit from the other yurts and campsites. We have stayed in the one room cabins a lot also. One bed with a pull out couch sleeps 4 comfortably. The cabins have a kitchen with pots and pans and utensils. There is a coffee pot but bring your own coffee. They have a bathroom with standing shower and heat that works amazing! Small tv with some basic channels. A DVD player. They also have a picnic table and charcoal grill outside. We have also stayed in an A Frame and have even went in with some friends and got the big cabin and had a blast. The A frame and big cabin are beautiful and amazing. The big cabin has a huge kitchen with table and an outback fenced yard. It has a separate living room with a tv, chairs and couches that have two double glass doors that open up to a beautiful wooden deck with a picnic table overlooking the area. There is free coffee in the lounge and a small store with limited supplies. They also have a cabinet with games that they loan out for free on the honor system. The lodge is beautiful with a huge fireplace and sitting area. They have a place next to the lodge where you can rent sleds for the snow also.We have never got a room in the hotel so cant say much on that. Great military place. I was here this past weekend for a wedding, and it was an awesome place to hold such an event! The wedding ceremony was held at a lookout spot about 10min away, but the reception (a chili cook-off) was held at the Fort Tuthill Recreation area. There was a kitchen and conference room for our use, and the grounds for playing on. There was a basketball court, volleyball court, tetherball and a nice gazebo where they set up the bar. After the reception, the after-party continued in an A-Frame Cabin, which was very roomy and comfortable. We stayed the night in a hotel room in the main building, coincidentally a handicapped-friendly one with one queen bed, since it was the last one available for the night. It was $65/night, and very large. The bed was very comfortable! Everything was clean and well-kept--the only complaint I would have is the walls were very thin and I could hear every footstep on the floor above. The staff was very friendly, and the wedding party had an amazing time at Fort Tuthill. We will probably return on a future date, possibly to try out their Adventure Course... read more

Ft. Tuthill's Lower Gorge rafting trip was FANTASTIC! The trip was incredibly well planned, the food was amazing, and the guides were outstanding. Not to mention the splendor of the Grand Canyon! Tips from a first timer: 1. Call the moment registration opens or you probably won't get a spot. 2. Check the weather link that comes in your welcome email, don't try it yourself. The weather in the gorge is different! Mother Nature wins! Be ready! 3. We were given a Ft. Tuthill coffee travel mug in our room upon arrival. Be sure to take it with you or you won't have a coffee cup. No cups/glasses are provided during the trip. 4. Don't forget a large water bottle. 5. Wear shoes that will go directly from the river to an uphill hike to more water. The hikes aren't overly strenuous but you will need tread on your shoes, water sock type water shoes are strongly discouraged. 6. Pack sunscreen, bug repellant, lip protection, a wide brim hat with a strap, sunglasses with a strap, and have a lightweight button up type over shirt available anytime on the raft as the sun is HOT! 7. Snacks are provided on the rafts and meals are delicious and plentiful. 8. Pack a towel to improvise a pillow or a blow up type pillow if you're a pillow sleeper. 9. Arrive expecting to meet amazing people from all over the world. We made friends of a lifetime type friends! 9. ASK THE GUIDES QUESTIONS! They are so full of facts and stories!! 10. Have a little money to buy a snack or sodas/beer etc. on the way to the Grand Canyon, money for lunch on the way back from the Grand Canyon. I recommend buying extra beer/wine/tequila/your drink of choice as, at least for us, it was a very hospitable crowd and everyone was generous to share and share alike. 11. Pack money to tip your guides. You will feel terrible if you aren't prepared to tip them after you see the extent they go to to ensure you have the experience of a lifetime! read more

Tired from a days driving, we decided against staying in the Grand Canyon's campgrounds and opted for a location closer to flagstaff. After a quick google search I discovered this campsite was nearly empty and we could easily get a space wherever we desired. Pulling through the fairgrounds parking lot I should have realized that this was the wrong week to come as they were preparing for the fair this upcoming weekend. This was omen number 1. Next we came to the camp host's booth. Completely empty. No one on staff. Considering it was a Monday afternoon we figured they might just have been on break so we grabbed a form to fill out for a one night stay which it said was a-ok to do...Omen number 2. At this point we drove around the site to look for a nice spot. A giant crow, or so we thought, was perched upon a the firepit at campsite b13 so we chose a neighboring site instead. OMEN NUMBER 3. Setting up our tent it started to thunder and I looked into a parting in the sky, thick black clouds began to roll in. We quickly set up the tent and hoped for the best, but expected the worst. ANOTHER OMENS? Got pizza (see fratelli's review) and then came back. Tried to make a campfire but everything was soaked. We said, "screw that" to the fire. Due to our expert placement got in the now smoke filled tent. OMENS A PLENTY. Finally lightening struck in the forest six or seven times and we bolted to the car. Soaked in the car we decided to hotwire a hotel instead of waking up on a floating air mattress in the middle of the half assembled fairgrounds. This is the only place we ever stay at in or around Flagstaff. Military only, and the prices are out of this world. No tax or extra fees. We have stayed multiple times in the campsites, yurts, small cabin, the hotel itself, and the large A frame cabin. The only one we have yet to get is the giant family cabin. The bathhouse with showers and restrooms for the campers and yurts is always clean. The hotel rooms are half the price of anywhere in flagstaff, yet are twice as big and have a kitchen. The small cabin is small and cozy, perfect for a getaway for 2 and was only $45 per night! When splitting with friends we get the two bedroom Aframe which is two stories with a huge living room and full kitchen. Only $140 per night split with a friend only cost us $70 and easily had room for 8 people. the firewood is free and the lobby has a shop with food and beer if you don't want to leave to get food or forgot something. The place looks amazing in the snow and my kids and I took a walk one morning in the snow and walked right up within 10 yards of 3 large bucks. Recommend this place to anyone, anytime. Recently we attended the Coconino County Fair that was on the grounds and we could walk back and forth from fair to cabin every day. Was amazing. It was a little strange at first when I realized this was an Army Fort, ran by the Air Force, guarded by Marines, but whatever they are doing works!! I feel really bad about the Person who left the 1 star rating simply because the weather was bad the night they chose to stay there. The Air Force, as far as I am aware, haven't figured out how to manipulate the weather for better camping. The only issue that I have ever had in almost 20 visits was when my daughter left an old iPad there. They put it in the safe, yet only one manager could get into it and he was gone the next couple times we stayed there. One day we will get it back lol. read more

We stayed at the Luke AFB Recreation Area in Ft Tuthill. For the money it was a very good place to camp. It did not offer full hook-ups, but did have a dump station. Some sites offered no services. That said, the laundry facilities were good as well as the showers & washrooms. The place was quiet and offered significant shade from tall pines. Most or all sites had picnic tables and barbq's. However Fire Danger conditions precluded their use during our stay. Overall this was a great value! I would absolutely stay here again! read more

We stayed at the cabins here and the front desk attendant was so rude to us yesterday morning (Mar. 30, 2018. She rolled her head, rolled her eyes and just didn't care about being polite at all. My sister got made at the way she was treating our mother, she started arguing with her. My mom told my sister to leave and then my mom asked for the manager and of course the manager wasn't there. She so rudely said that the manager wasn't there and that shed make sure she called us over the phone. My mom asked her name and she said in such a horrible way COURTNEY COLLINS. We waited a little later in the day and spoke to manager and the manager claimed that Courtney said my sister treated her as soon as they started talking and that she felt threaded. We were so surprised and shocked that Courtney lied on us and that the manager herself was rude and took up for Courtney 100% and didn't believe even 1 part of anything we told her. That was the worse service we have ever had and we will never go back and we will make sure to complain to everyone we know that this place is the worse. read more
