Francisco, the owner/instructor is a very experienced fighter and makes you feel very welcome from day one. He pushes you to improve and is very hands on when coaching you on your technique. The Muay Thai classes are organized into levels so beginners work with other beginners and you don't feel out of place. I have learned quite a bit in my 1.5 months and am looking forward to more time in this gym. Whether you want to become a serious fighter, lose weight, or just beat the hell out of something to relieve stress, NWC is definitely worth a look!

Very reasonable pricing, no contracts, tons of class times, and great people. All levels, from beginners to black belts, train here. The environment is very welcoming. Competition is encouraged but not required, and there are many very successful competitors here in different age ranges, weight classes, and belt levels. Focusing on the kid's side for this review: Started about 3 years ago with my 4 year old daughter. We came for a trial class and enjoyed it, so decided to keep training. Another big factor was the female ownership and strong female membership. I wanted my daughter to have those examples to look up to. We have never done any martial arts or wrestling before, so I wasn't sure how either of us would fair. My daughter loves her coaches and they really do a great job of keeping things fun yet disciplined and engaging. They all genuinely care about their students. They make sure everyone is safe and working together in a controlled way. Coach Jen and Coach Kat started her off with Wee Warriors and the basic skills. She has been able to move up and promote into the more advanced classes with Coach Kari and Coach Eli. She also loves helping with the younger kids whenever she can with Coach (and owner) Karen, Coach Eli, or Coach Jen. It's nice that all of the coaches generally work together and help eachother, and there are many other coaches that I am sure I am neglecting to mention who have contributed to my daughter's progress. The lessons are consistent no matter who is leading the class, and generally build on the previous lessons or review skills already taught. Plenty of private and small group lessons available as well for extra training if desired. The more my daughter participates and engages with her coaches, friends, training partners, and other competitors, the more she enjoys being at Genesis Jiu Jitsu. They teach that it is not just about self defense, but that it is about a change in how you live your life and act on a day to day bases. Furthermore, they are an integral part of all their students' lives. My boys were very interested and I was unsure. When we sat down and discussed this, I found Hwang Martial Arts to be very affordable. Not only that, but my children had no male role model in their lives at all. Now they have incredible male teachers, who demand respect, but at the same time, give positive motivation, teaching the kids the most important principals of being a solid person. Not only did my kids take advantage of Tae Kwon Do, but I attended the Muay Thai classes for fun and exercise. I had no idea that Mr. Weeks and Mr. Hall would change my perspective completely on physical fitness and how much my mind, body and spirit require physical exercise. My confidence level was very low when we started and I didn't see anything extraordinary about myself. All of that has changed drastically in just a year. Now, when I talk about my life, about fighting techniques and working out, people are very intrigued. My passion and zeal for life have skyrocketed. The QiGong portion of class is very calming and grounding. If you aren't able to stand for the entire session there is an option to sit in a chair and achieve the same energetic benefits. The Tai Chi section of class is split into beginner and advanced levels. Sensei Nishida is great to make sure you understand the concepts and forms in order to attain the maximum benefits from this healing martial art form. The dojo is always clean and lots of windows and beautiful trees. My favorite part of this community is the diversity of ages, races and backgrounds who all come together to focus on making the world a better place-starting with ourselves. The combination of physical and mental challenge appeals to the novelty seeking part of my brain in a way that pure strength training never has. I have found a tangible peace and calm through the combination of striking and grappling training that is offered here that I almost can't explain but everyone I train with seems to understand because they feel it too. The sense of accomplishment earned from a challenging roll, the thrill of perfecting a technique, the peaceful exhaustion (endorphins anyone?) after classes all work to counteract the general stress and anxiety of life. Something else that really speaks to me about The Forge is the way that the classes accommodate all skill and strength and age levels. The way that Krav Maga is trained here allows each individual to know their own capabilities and walk through life with awareness and confidence. My kids are not only getting a better version of their Mom as I train, they are experiencing the same mental and physical benefits that I am through their own classes. They started in the Brazilian Jiu-jitsu program and we enrolled them in the kid's Krav Maga classes as well when that became available. Watching the all the kids in class increase in confidence and skill, seeing them gain greater control over the movement of their bodies, has been amazing. They look forward to each of their classes with a miniature version of the same supportive and inspiring type of friend group that the adults have come to rely on here.
