The people here are humble and nice. The food is prepared pretty quickly. My experience today was pretty painless. The customers at this establishment are diverse and order a lot of food. I tried the number 146 Squid with black beans and vegetables. The garlic sauce was absolutely delicious though and the squid was cooked perfectly. Just a bit chewy like I love it! But there really wasn't much beans in the dish. Just a few, like 10 bean beans laid inside. My friend had the number 171 Beef with fried noodles. He seemed to enjoy it. The menu here has a lot of options. I think this restaurant is a 3-4 stars place. read more

This was by far the worst service we have ever had at any restaurant. The food was bland and tasted burnt. Service was horrible. Waited for over an hour. They screwed up our dishes twice. When I finally asked to cancel my order all of a sudden all the dishes came out. Manager was an 80 year old man who came to speak to us. Didn't speak English at all. Sum Hay fans who were heartbroken when Sing sold the business were overjoyed to learn that he was back, with a new place in a less scary neighbourhood. Same awesome chow though. Highlights of the menu are the Ginger Beef (best in the city, hands down!) and Singapore Noodles, as well as insanely great BBQ Duck, Chicken and Pork. Other good stuff is Honey Chicken (basically a chicken version of the Ginger Beef), Almond Shrimp, Mooshu, and Chow Mein. But the really good stuff is right at the beginning of the menu, from number 6 down to about number 12. These are customizable dishes - you choose your meat, either single or combinations of two (pork/chicken/duck in various permutations), which you can get as soup with rice or egg noodles, or on rice, or on fried Chow Mein noodles, with vegetables. The best dish in the restaurant, therefore, is "#6, Fried Noodle, Black Bean Sauce" - try it, you'll be amazed, and it's far superior to the BBQ Pork Chow Mein elsewhere on the menu. Alternately, you can get the same thing with Pork & Chicken, Pork & Duck, Chicken and Duck, etc... This has been our go to Chinese restaurant for awhile now. The food and service had always been really good, until lately. The last three or four times the wait time has been intolerable. Tell you half hour, get there and then have to wait another half hour for your food. The quality of the food has slipped lately as well, the worst being what was supposed to be Hot and Sour soup but was more like dishwater than soup! Winnipeg is not the mecca of chinese food so it's difficult to find a good place. The restaurant was almost full for dinner and you an hear the sizzling hot wok in the kitchen. 3 star because this seems to be the only very-close-to-authenic decent chinese food restaurant in town. From the outside, it looks like a hole-in-the-wall. Inside, it's typical of a hole-in-the-wall; but I didnt come here for the decor. Didnt bother taking a photo inside. Sitting at the bar area waiting for my take-out order, I could watch and see the 2 wokers cooking up a storm. I can see the preppers working away next to the woks in the kitchen chopping away. The establishment was about 3/4 full with families; including asian families...hint, hint, enjoying their meals. The aroma coming from the kitchen was good. I ordered the traditional food we're accustomed to; house special chow mein with crispy noodles and the sauce on sauce on the side, mixed veggies #159, crispy chicken, and black bean garlic shrimp. Thumbs up on the dishes; the only complaint - crispy chicken was somewhat dry. Service is good; no complaints here. It was definitely comforting to eat here, while they played chinese tv up on the flatscreen, and I can speak chinese to what seemed like a mom and pop shop. I got a bbq duck with rice noodle. It was a HUGE portion for $10. It was quite good and a familiar taste. The decor was kind of bland. But the prices are good. I would come again, and grab take out. read more

Went there with a friend and was extremely grossed out. Here's a hint, the food has taste because they use MSG on their food. When you tell them you don't want MSG on your food, they look disappointed. Owner hangs out and takes the order, but also just lingers. I will recommend chow mein de luxe, wanton soup deluxe and bbq fried rice. Food taste great and best value for your pocket. Servings are good for 2-3 people. The only thing i don't like is their washroom because it can only accommodate 1 person at a time. read more

We were given the table at first and then when the server start to set up,the table, the owner and i guess the daughter ordered us to vacate the table because according to them ,our table and the table beside us are reserved fro the other customer. We came with no reserve notes in the table and the table they're pointing us to transfer not even prepared yet.Rudeness to the max,lying in our face saying it's reserved for others.they make arrangment to accomodate late comers but no sweat to inconvienient us.Food is affordable but attitude is atrocious and no customer servie skills. Real Chinese food for Chinese people or for connoisseur. I would have given 5 stars if it was a bit cleaner, but I really enjoyed the food.

Food is ok and cheap. Staff are ok. Certainly a no frills atmosphere. Nothing special. Low on our return list.
