What makes Stormbreaker different is that it was specifically created to solve frustrations that parents and players commonly experience in club volleyball. One of the biggest issues in club volleyball is roster size. Many clubs carry 12-14 players, meaning some girls spend large portions of tournaments on the bench, players worry about being substituted out after mistakes, and teammates feel like competitors fighting for the same playing time. Stormbreaker intentionally keeps rosters smaller, typically around 9-10 players. The girls are not only on the court more often, but they have a defined role and purpose. They are part of every match and rotation rather than wondering if they will see the floor. That consistency allows players to develop confidence through real game experience instead of constantly worrying about being replaced. Another major difference is training volume. Most clubs provide two practices per week. Stormbreaker provides three, plus additional opportunities for clinics, scrimmages, and position-specific development. More touches, more repetitions, and more feedback lead to more growth. Practices are also structured differently. Stormbreaker often has multiple teams training simultaneously with four or more coaches actively involved. Athletes are divided into position groups. Setters with setting coaches, hitters with hitting coaches, liberos on defense and serve receive, middles on middle-specific skills. The specialized instruction and repetition the girls receive is dramatically higher than what we experienced elsewhere. Stormbreaker also has something most clubs don't offer: a dedicated strength and athletic development area called The Vault. The girls participate in structured conditioning sessions focused on athleticism, explosiveness, core strength, injury prevention, and volleyball-specific performance. We've personally watched players become stronger, jump higher, and gain confidence over a single season. We also appreciated that development was built into the club experience rather than requiring constant outside lessons. Between three practices, specialized coaching, strength training, clinics, and additional opportunities for extra reps, our daughter received far more development within the program itself than we experienced elsewhere. Stormbreaker is also not built around a single coach. Jonathan, the club director, is deeply involved and genuinely cares about players and families. He has invested tremendous time studying collegiate, Olympic, and high-level volleyball development systems so coaches work from a shared philosophy. Unlike many clubs where your experience depends almost entirely on one coach, Stormbreaker has worked to build a consistent developmental system. The goal is that players continue progressing regardless of which coach they have because the training philosophy, skill development priorities, and expectations are shared across the club. What impressed me most, however, is the culture. The emphasis is not only on volleyball skills but on character, confidence, resilience, leadership, and personal growth. The club's mission and core values show up in how coaches interact with players, how families support one another, and how girls are encouraged to grow as athletes and young people. Our own team faced plenty of challenges. We had players learning new positions, several first-year club athletes, and periods of instability that could have derailed development. Instead, we watched the girls improve dramatically. They became more skilled, more confident, more competitive, and more resilient. Our daughter gained meaningful court time, developed confidence, and grew more in a single season than we expected. More importantly, she genuinely looked forward to practices and finished the season loving the game even more than when she started. We've spoken with many families from other Stormbreaker teams, and our experience is not unique. Parents consistently share that their daughters improved more in one season than in previous years elsewhere. No club is perfect, and Stormbreaker is still growing. But it was intentionally built to address problems many families have simply accepted as normal in club volleyball. They created an environment where athletes can develop, compete, build confidence, and genuinely enjoy the game. Instead of them understanding and allowing me to reschedule for the following week, they told me too bad. Emailed to try to get someone to understand that tantrums are unpredictable and again, they didn't care. Kept throwing their 24 hour reschedule policy at me. Next time, I'll ask my three year old 24 hours before If she plans to have a tantrum. Definitely not a place for kids younger than 5. Don't waste your money.

My 4 year old doesn't really listen but they truly have been super understanding. My 6 year old loves it and actually looks forward to going to class. Both my son and daughter go here…read more There are many types of martial arts with their own inherent benefits, but from my martial arts backgrounds, I chose this style for my children which is more of a blend of the styles I studied. My son's journey started 14 years ago in San Dimas where he studied under Grand Master Petermann, then Master Petermann, at 4 years old. We only went two times a week, but I liked their style and adherence to the traditional ways of Hapkido. When the San Dimas studio closed, they moved temporarily to the Masonic Temple in San Dimas. We later moved to the Pasadena studio (this is when my daughter started), then South Pasadena waiting for Arcadia to open. My son got his black belt under the training of both Mr. Tomas and Master Kim. His early training was from Grandmaster Peterman and Mr. and Mrs. Clark. My daughter is training for her black belt--some 10 years later, under the tutelage of Mr. Tomas, Ms. Kelly, and Mr. Salazar. WHAT A JOURNEY!!! We followed Mr. Tomas because he cares about his students--they are NOT dollar signs as some studios see them. He wants them to succeed but does NOT baby them. He teaches real world experiences that one would face with which Hapkido can help--it is not just fighting. These are life-building transferable skills you can use anywhere--plus defend yourself. I am a veteran high school teacher, and I can almost always tell a student who has been or is in martial arts. Confidence. Respectful, Perseverance. Control. Calm. Independent. She then prepared us to be academically ready for the private school curriculum, and even now, we are doing remote tutoring 3X a week and my son is really excelling. He received high honors (3.74 GPA) on his first report card in middle school n before that was just a B level student. This school pushes challenging academics and they really make their students earn their grades. We would never have been prepared for this type of curriculum had we not been constantly receiving enrichment from Elevate. I've told Serena that I was willing to pay full price even though we are totally remote and still it is so worth it. She's accommodating and extremely organized with scheduling while working so hard to advocate for both of my kids. Don't get me wrong, we have found a handful of really excellent tutors to work with us in person while we are in Hawaii. However none of them offer the services that Serena does, STEM classes, coding classes, book clubs, contests, pre-k tutoring, and she even worked to throw a private party for my son.... as that is what he wanted. He is caring, knows how to make the little kids focus. He is gentle yet firm. He has a lot of experience with small kids since he used to be a elementary school teacher. At this age coming here is more for fun than really expecting your kid to be a Karate master. They learn fundamentals of how to protect themselves, how to fall correctly so you minimize bone fracture and how to coordinate their bodies. We have all heard wonderful reviews from other parents as well. In the little dragon class (4-6yrs) they are about anywhere from 8-13 kids. Our son loves the class and we Would recommend it to any parents that would like to start educating their kids about self defense. Several of the techniques are also appropriate for adults to learn.
