I had so hoped I'd be able to write a positive review of Huntington. Our initial experience, where…read moremy husband and I had had small individual checking accounts, was positive enough that we decided to transfer our main checking and savings accounts to Huntington. We spent a lot of time getting our electronic transfers and auto pays established at Huntington, ordered checks and looked forward to a good experience. We received confirmations that the transfers/autopays were in place. Imagine our surprise when Huntington canceled two of our electronic transfers without advising us. This created major problems and embarrassment as those on the receiving end were denied their money, even though there was more than a sufficient balance in our account. We also incurred fees from the receiving institutions due to Huntington's actions. We called the bank's customer service line and were told we needed to provide paper copies of the other banks and credit cards we had linked to our account but could not tell us why, or who would see this confidential information. When my husband went to the branch with these documents, no one knew anything about this "requirement." It took us a long and frustrating experience to finally get access to our transfers. I wrote to the bank President, since the branch and customer service couldn't tell us why this had happened and how future similar issues could be avoided. I wanted him to know the experience of a new customer. I did not hear from him but a few weeks later, I had a voice mail from someone from Huntington. He did not leave his name and when .I returned the call, his voice mail did not identify his name or the bank's name but I left a message anyway. I received a call back from Ryan Mahargh (though he never gave me his name and I had to ask). He had no information to share. I really don't know why he called me. He said he was a regional director over the retail branches. He was unable to explain what had happened, telling me that "that is part of security and they don't tell us about that." He said my experience was unusual. He expressed no apology for inconvenience, appreciation that we were customers or any of the niceties that would have helped smooth things over, such as covering the fees we incurred due to the bank's mistakes. He told me he would send our situation to the "Escalation Department" and told me I'd hear from them with 5 business days. When I asked if he would be following up with them to be sure I heard from them, he told me no, that once he turned it over to them, he was finished with it. When I asked for a name/phone number of someone in that department in case I didn't hear anything, he told me he couldn't provide that to me. This call was more than a month ago and I have never heard from anyone from the 'Escalation department", Ryan Mahargh or anyone else from Huntington. My recommendation is to avoid this bank if you value customer service and a positive banking relationship. You won't find either here.

Even though it sits in a busy area with tons of nearby businesses, the interior never felt chaotic or overcrowded. The staff seemed organized and kept things moving smoothly during my visit. Parking was easy and there was plenty of room to get in and out without stress. The lobby felt safe, well maintained, and genuinely welcoming, which makes in-person banking a lot more enjoyable. They take care of their customers and no one is a number, but soon you become a name. Check out a credit union. I believe they are better and safer than a bank if there is a government money issue. The app and the hotline were two TOTAL DIFFERENT BALANCES, when I KNEW what was suppose to be on there. Because I KNEW the balance that was suppose to be one there, I tried to use it and it still wouldn't let me purchase it, at all. After DAYS of this happening...... the app & over the phone banking was finally FIXED, and I COULD FINALLY USE MY CARD AGAIN....... Here's mine…read more Getting a hand written thank you card from your neighborhood bank branch is good enough reason to stay loyal, but my relationship with BMO goes a lot further back and I will never switch banks if I can help it. Here's why: I've been a BMO customer since they bought Marshall and Ilsley Bank. I was a Marshall and Ilsley customer since they bought First Indiana Bank. Before I became a First Indiana Bank customer, I had a variety of terrible banking experiences with mega banks where I paid out hundreds of dollars in stacked overdraft fees at a time. I thought all the banks were out to get me. Way back when I had little kids we were victims of a vehicle break-in and the person who busted into our minivan ran off with a checkbook. The thief wrote $4700 in bad checks within two or three days. I mostly went to the Nora branch back then and there was a gentleman who took care of us through our mishap. We never had to worry about our bank account being drained. We didn't have problems with a single payment we had to make. Not a mortgage payment. Not a utility payment. Not even a cell phone bill. When this break-in occurred, I wasn't too far removed from those scrappy, youthful days where I *did* have to make choices on what bills to pay on time, and which ones could wait. I was quite relieved. After all, I had just bought my first house not too long prior and I did NOT want to screw that up. Lots of overdraft fees would have likely sunk me. That gentleman at the Nora branch said hello to me by name when I walked in from that incident onward. Eventually I moved to Carmel and the people at that branch got to know me by first name, too. I went on to pick up a (now closed, thankfully) HELOC and they were very helpful throughout the process. Now I live in Broadripple and I get thank you cards that not only come in adorable sizes, but also identify me by who I am; not just by my name. I've always felt respected as a BMO customer but this just drives the message home. I appreciate the card and Starbucks will be on me in the very near future.

Closed my account after they changed their policy to require members to pay their arbitration costs…read moreand legal fees. Really? I hold credit unions to a higher standard. They also posted the incorrect interest to my account and also failed to tell me about a premium money market account. That was enough. When I called on arbitration, they said the new policy was to "encourage" members not to go to arbitration. I get that. Who else has such an anti-consumer policy.

Mr. Parker was helpful, thorough, and super-prompt throughout. He was courteous. He explained things clearly. He came with us to the closing and offered moral support. He even answered questions we had after the process was completed--never had that happen before. We read a couple of the other reviews of Star Financial from people who hadn't had good experiences, and we wanted to offer our experience. Hope this helps complete the picture.
