Parking in the area was $20 at a lot across the street. Not terrible for a Friday night in LA, but still worth mentioning. Your ticket includes skate rental and one drink, so we grabbed a Paloma (the other option was not available) which hit the spot. Unfortunately, the skating surface was a bit of a letdown--treaded hard plastic mats that didn't offer a smooth ride. It took a lot of effort to move and wasn't beginner-friendly. Plus there was a tricky spot that tripped up more than a few skaters. The biggest surprise was the low energy overall--music was pretty quiet, and the vibe felt more relaxed than festive. We expected more of a party atmosphere for a Friday night rooftop in the heart of LA. It was still fun to do something different and hang out with our group, but unless they upgrade the floor or amp up the energy, it's probably a one-and-done for us. Boasting over 110,000 square feet of exhibition space, the modern and curvy building spans over 900 feet in length, standing 30 feet above ground and bridging over Wilshire Boulevard. It's open and spacious - I love their placements of many art pieces on tables with no casing! You can get very close the the objects ... ALMOST touching them. But don't worry, there are plenty of security officers around to ensure all visitors stay away from the art pieces. The collection in this gallery is huge - like an encyclopedia museum, encompassing arts from various period and all over the world -- more from Latin America than other regions, it seems. If you are the kind of museum goers who must see famous pieces, you may be a bit disappointed here - though there are a few impressionist pieces by well-known artists. If you go without too much expectation and let whatever meets the eyes delight, entertain, amuse, or educate you, then you just might have a pleasant visit. Do plan a day - the Geffen gallery alone can take 3-4 hours! Other buildings may take another few hours. Except for LA county residents -- you can get in for free after 3PM so come enjoy this great place for 2-3 hours before closing, as often as you like!! My one wish is if they could be a bit more considerate to seniors -- the Geffen gallery is huge; when it was 3 minutes before closing, a group of us (very tired at this time) were near the south exit stairs, but were told we have to use the north exit and shoo'd away from the stairs that were right in front of us. I thought it would be similar to the Museum of Illusions in New York, but rather than a museum feel, this was purely just photo ops. You can rent tripods at the front for $10. They also provide free lockers for your bags and stuff- which I would highly recommend. I didn't take up the offer in the beginning but soon realized that was a better option. I would also like to highly recommend and thank Tim! He showed us the ropes of how to take photos and he took some photos for us. He was friendly, professional and patient with my two young kids. He definitely knows his way around an iPhone camera and showed me some tricks I didn't even know. Tim's photos came out a lot better than mine as you need to find the perfect angle for the pictures to have that illusion effect. The tickets I purchased online also allowed us to go to the giant house next door and the upside down house. Tim came to the rescue again and took some amazing photos for us in the upside down house. It felt a bit too expensive for what it offers, especially considering the bundle included all three exhibits. The experiences are fun for photos, but they're fairly short and limited in activities. For the amount you pay, it would be nice if there were more interactive things to do or more areas to explore. Overall, it's a good spot if you're really into taking fun illusion photos, but if you're expecting a longer or more activity-filled experience, it may feel a bit overpriced.

I lean into the doorway and see the rest of the tour - 4 other women right there. So half the tour was 3 minutes "late" and they decided to start, weird but moving on. The woman leading the tour was really quite lovely and I wasn't expecting the house to be so amazing since I was focused on the garden part but I really loved learning about the house and original inhabitants. We are asked several times if we want to join the meditation but I'm getting culty vibes and we keep politely declining. Once we are outside, we are asked again if we would like to join the meditation and now the gray haired man is with us again and I said, "No, we really just wanted to see the gardens." At this point he says, "Oh the gardens are closed." I'm completely confused again and said, "What? But that's why we came-- to see the gardens & labyrinth." He then says, "Oh! well the labyrinth is open but the gardens are closed." At this point I think they asked us to join the meditation again. I asked when they expected them to be opened and the response was June of this year, maybe because there have been a lot of delays. Again, weird, but okay we just want to walk the labyrinth. There were a couple of other women walking it and then our group of three joined too. I'm halfway thru it and I look up and see the gray haired man STARING at us - which included 3 preteens/teens in halter tops posing and taking pix - and I was so incredibly creeped out. I had no idea what to do, cross the labyrinth? ask him what he is staring at? I came to this place to ground and do something calming and now I have a man staring at me and other women but since everyone else was looking down or at their phone, they didn't notice so I didn't want to disrupt THEIR experience. Eventually he went away, to join the meditation I guess. We finished the labyrinth and left. It was only $6 but since it didn't mention the gardens were closed on the website or ticket, I am asking for a refund. Would I go again when the gardens are open? Yes. Would I recommend to others? Yes. Would I advise against it as a single woman? Also yes. I will update if they refund us or not.

The entrance ticket includes a short tour showing part of the downstairs house and after guests can walk around the meditation garden with the Labyrinth. I thought it was peaceful and calm, it was like a very small version of Self-Realization as there were grassy areas and benches to sit and relax and meditate. Griffith Observatory is one of the most popular attractions in LA on TripAdvisor. And it's a landmark that has appeared in quite a few movies over the years. I stopped by on a Sunday morning. Let's start off with the challenge. If you're down for a long walk, you can get free parking. I am, but I was with my mom, so that was off the table. If you park at the observatory, it's all paid parking. And you have to pre-select the amount of time you'd like to pay for. Which is a bit annoying as it's tough to predict exactly how long it'll take to explore the attraction to the full extent. I did three hours, which worked out, as some parts of the observatory were a no-go since it was a cloudy, foggy, and rainy day. You also have to pay for admission and a surcharge for shows in the planetarium. Now, let's get to the good stuff. The Observatory itself is quite impressive. It's a major observatory with some pretty awesome equipment, artifacts, and more. You learn a lot about astronomy and the Observatory is well laid out. I recommend paying extra to see a show in the planetarium. The one I saw was educational and entertaining. There's a lot to explore and they also have a cafe on the property if you get hungry (I didn't check it out). And here's another highlight...Griffith Observatory is a great vantage point to see the iconic Hollywood Sign. You can find it to the right of the entrance of the Observatory (facing the Observatory). Since it was muggy when I was there, I only had a partial view of the sign. Bad luck, but it was still cool to see it. Despite some of the logistical challenges, and the fact that it's a popular spot, Griffith Observatory is well worth a visit!
