While not particularly vain about these things; a summer of slathering on industrial strength sunscreen (I work outside) and being lax about my home regimen, my skin was looking a bit haggard. I made my first appointment at the end of September and I have ceased to think of facials as a luxury. My skin looked amazing after the first visit. I have been back three times, most recently after a little surgery, anesthesia and heavy antibiotics. My "normal, good skin" erupted into an angry mess and for maybe the forth time in my life, I was really self-conscious about it. Julene came to my rescue! Here are my qualms: 1. the light for the magnifier during facials are extremely bright like shines through whatever she "protected my eyes with" and was uncomfortable multiple times. 2. There was too much conversation for me about my eating choices and things..I appreciate them during a consult but not during my facial. I also prefer not to talk too much during my facial, there was a lot of that here. At one point she asked me if I wanted to "zen-out" ..which wasn't possible considering the circumstances. 3. I had a facial about 6 weeks prior and they performed extractions in a great way, Donna chose not to and said my skin was too sensitive which I found odd. So basically just a deep cleanse for 85 dollars. I really just felt like since I already had 90% of the dermalogica products at home that I could have gotten similar results at home. Lastly, I didn't like how tiny the room was that I was in, had I known this was a more disjoint experience (the facial room wasn't in their little office area) I probably wouldn't have booked to be honest. I was expecting a spa-like atmosphere and I felt like I was in a closet, I actually think I was. She didn't hurt my skin nor did she truthfully improve it too much and her advice was noted and received. I walked out with just more hydrated skin, but what I was looking for was a spa-like experience with glowing, exfoliated, extracted skin...things I can't safely do at home (specifically the extracting). A very rare, not well-understood chronic nerve pain issue that was threatening to keep me debilitated for the rest of my life. The MDs I had were at a loss for how to help. I am a dancer, and extremely active in my hobbies so to say the prospect of not being able to move freely or use my foot again was terrifying and traumatizing, is a gross understatement. In my first acupuncture session with her, I went from not being able to touch ANYTHING to my foot, to being able to place it on the floor of my car (which was previously unendurable due to the vibrations, pressure, and swelling from not being elevated) and drive myself over an hour to one of my favorite places. It was like a miracle. Every time I had a session with her, my baseline would improve immediately, and those changes would hold. When people ask me what treatments made the most difference, the two answers I give are acupuncture from "this truly extraordinary practitioner named Krishna", and an anti-inflammatory diet. I deeply believe I would not have recovered without her, and to be frank, that thought terrifies me on behalf of all the people who do not have the chance to receive help from her or someone like her. That was just the effect of the acupuncture. She also did several Psych-K sessions with me over the years. The Psych-K is one of the coolest treatments I have ever had (and I've had a lot). It is amazing, and so relieving to have an experience that cuts so deeply be transformed so that those emotions are processed. I would leave feeling like an elephantine weight was lifted from my shoulders. Around that time, I was having a lot of issues with my mom. Lots of love, but something in our relationship was off and causing some very big problems. We did the relationship balancing Psych-K together (although you don't need both parties for it to work), and it made a world of difference. Of course, our relationship work is still ongoing, but that session was a huge turning point. I live in a different state now, but every time I have an issue it is Krishna that I wish I could see.
