A Transportation History and Auto Evolution [Fairbanks AK] I don't know much about automobiles and am not a car enthusiast. As long as I have a reliable, decent car to use that will take me from point A to point B then I'm good... but wow! what an amazing display of car history at this museum. I learned a lot at the Fountainhead Auto Museum as my hubby and I marveled at the stunning showcase of cars from the late 1800's to 1930's. Before we started our self-guided tour we were given a brief history of the museum. Alongside the cars are the fashion corresponding to that era starting with a history on bicycles which paved the way for automobiles. General Admission is $18 (adults 13+). The cars were beautifully restored and I believe all of them (except for 3 cars) are in working condition. The period dresses worn back then were gorgeous making this a museum both me and hubby enjoyed -- cars and fashion. Each display had a description. So much to see! The employees were there to answer questions and talk about the history of the cars. I enjoyed the history on the electric powered cars... I'm not referring to a Tesla. No, these are from the early 1900's -- the 1912 Rauch & Lang and the 1913 Argo (Model C). These are Cinderella coaches and would appeal more to women LoL! We spent about an hour or so in the museum. It was a one of a kind experience for us. A classic gem and a must do when visiting Fairbanks AK. Review #3123

Our group of 7 had a nice time learning the history of car manufacturing and the fashion of that era. The cars are beautifully maintained. There is also an area where you can dress up in vintage clothing and take photos. That was a lot of fun.

This place has a huge collection of antique cars, many from the 1910-1930 era. They are all wonderfully cared for and restored in house. Almost all the cars get driven once a year on the roads, which would be such a cool sight to see. There are 80+ antique cars and clothing from the same times. These cars are absolutely beautiful to look at, and I learned so much from the employees/volunteers there. Winter hours are limited but I'd highly recommend going out of your way to check this place out. $18/adult and we were there for 1.5-2hrs.

Very extensive collection - don't miss this on your visit to Fairbanks ! Very informative docents and ask the front desk to honk the horn cause you know you want to! Read the stories and have a good laugh at the feats of these ancient automobiles and Alaskan history.

AGH! I completely forgot to leave a review for this place but I came earlier this year with my older sister and mom! I grew up loving cars, especially vintage ones, and learning the different mechanics from different time periods. My dad raised me like that, and it's one of the things that brings us really close together :) This car museum was BY FAR the best one I have ever been to in my life, and I wouldn't be surprised if it forever stays this way. Never in my life have I seen such an incredible collection that's full of so many FULLY RESTORED RARE cars, that I only ever got to see in magazines as a kid!!! The people that work there are so kind too, and they are all friends with the owners. The owners are an incredibly interesting couple, with the husband's passion being vehicles, and the wife's being fashion. Due to this, their collection TRULY stands out and allows you to immerse yourself into the past. Through the dressing and transport. Furthermore, the two older men who walk around answering questions are SO genuine and so fun lol I felt like I had stepped into a Hallmark movie. I wish I could remember their names! But I'll never forget their faces!! Overall, I will be returning as many times as I can in this life, and I highly recommend that you do too!

Great collection of antique cars and old era fashion clothes. The kids had a lot of fun learning about the automobile history and the host was very nice and friendly.

Great place to visit! A lot of Alaskan history, cool vehicles and period costumes. So far best part of our trip

Amazing collection of antique vehicles and garments. The staff was super friendly and educational. Very nice put together museum for a reasonable price. Next to the antique automobiles were garments that were commonly worn during that era. Not a car guy, but definitely enjoyed coming to see some of America's oldest and rarest cars!

An amazing collection of vintage cars and clothing and even accessories from the Edwardian era through the 1920s and early 30s. Definitely worth a visit.

Fantastic car and fashion and history museum. Great docents with deep knowledge of the cars and the impact that the cars had on Alaska history.

This place is very cool! Almost all of these cars still run which is amazing, they even have one available you can sit in. These are the most beautiful cars I have ever seen, they are immaculate and stupid gorgeous. They are also amazing feats of engineering, there is an electric car from 1913 and even a car with a magnetic drive mechanism from 1917. The accompanying clothing from the era is stunning and legit. They had one of Bing Crosby's suits on display from 1923. There are approximately 120 outfits on the floor at a time and they rotate through 700 different pieces so there is new stuff to see! It was definitely worth the stop and we look forward to going back!

    1933 Auburn! Stunning.

I'm not an auto enthusiast but I admit I enjoyed my time here. The exhibit is exquisite, cars in tip top shape ready to drive off the showroom (exhibit) floor. I imagined a time when those who could afford a car, purchased one of these vehicles. They were likely wearing their finest - many examples of vintage finery were dispersed throughout. The beading and details on the gowns and shifts is something to see. You can have some fun slipping on some of the costumes and accessories that are available. You can even snap a photo or three in costume IN a vehicle. Kinda cool for the kidletts, no? Who am I kidding, the adults were the ones having fun. Hours are limited so check the website. Affordable too. Great way to spend an afternoon with family or yourself...daydreaming about yesteryear.

Took my wife here for the first time and absolutely loved it. Loved all the old cars and the clothing that they had on display.

After getting our tickets, we walked through the set of double doors behind the ticketing area. The environment is really old and run down. It's cold, of course, but everything smells musty and kind of reminded me of standing in a corner of the cold dairy section in Costco where there happens to be an entire pallet of expired milk (I know you wouldn't do that to me, Costco). There is a large open area where I assume you can sometimes watch artists create their sculptures. But beyond that is a tiny room where some of the ice sculptures live permanently. Most of them looked like they had been there for a while. And it was very underwhelming. The best part was the tiny ice slide that my husband insisted on going down multiple times in an attempt to get our "moneys-worth". What a shame. We were both excited to be here. If it weren't for the slide, the entire experience would've lasted less than 10 minutes. The young lady at the ticket counter did tell us, "it's mostly here to take selfies and some photos..." I guess she wasn't wrong. When we walked out she was asleep at the counter. I wish that were the case when we walked in. I would've known to turn around and leave. The gift shop didn't have much to offer either. The shelves were pretty bare besides a few of the basics. We had a lot of fun in Fairbanks - I'd recommend checking out your options - especially if you have young children who get bored easily.

This is a FREE museum that was recommended by our local rideshare driver and offers a bit of history of Alaska and dog sledding. Sure, it's small and a bit run down, but it's got character. My favorite was the "101 Things To Do in Fairbanks Alaska", which actually listed 101 things to do infused with some wit such as "complain about all the tourists asking about the northern lights ". I can't help but appreciate the locals' humor which I encountered throughout my visit to Fairbanks. It's located upstairs in the Co-op Plaza. Whereas, in the summer, the museum is open everyday from 11am to 5pm. Even though the museum is small, I discovered interesting facts about dog mushing. Before it became a sport, the indigenous people used dog sledding for their transportation. Dog mushing is also another term used for dog sledding and there are specific dog breeds and sled models that are suited for the sport. Other areas that stood out to me were the indigenous artifacts, photos of the Fairbanks community, and '101 Things To Do in Fairbanks, Alaska'. As a visitor of Fairbanks, the Community Museum may not have much to showcase, but is informative nonetheless.
