What a wonderful experience! I cannot say enough good things about this must do activity for anyone visiting Alaska. The staff is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the techniques required to recover gold by panning. What I really appreciate is they not only have "seeded" dirt for panning, but they also have a practice pile where you can hone your panning skills before you try your seeded bag. And yes there is gold in that pile. I personally panned 3 nuggets from the pile before I ever touched my seeded bag! Once you finish your seeded bag you can either quit and go inside to pick some beautiful jewelry to show off your haul or keep working the practice pile to increase your gold. They were even nice enough to let us take a break and come back to keep panning. This activity is great for children, teens, adults and even seniors. However, we got a bit lost and stumbled upon this place instead -- and I'm so glad we did! The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, making us feel right at home. Loved panning for gold here! For $20 you get a bag of dirt that is guaranteed to have some gold flakes in it. You can also choose to pay for 2 other higher price options that give you bags with a chance of bigger pieces of gold. When you first arrive, they give you an orientation on how to pan for gold. Then you can dig through a big pile of dirt on your own and practice your panning technique before you try your $20 bag. My family stayed for a couple hours because we were having so much fun. I found it therapeutic and peaceful to swirl and dip my pan in the water, and have even figured out how to spot the gold on my own after a couple hours of practice! The ladies that work there are always walking around and ready to help you if you need assistance with looking for gold in your pan. It has some older relics there that you can look at, and there are tour buses that come and go with groups, and stay for about 30 minutes. But if you go there on your own, you can stay and open as long as you want - all day if you choose to! A definite must stop if you're in the Fairbanks area! read more

Having never gold panned before, I had no idea what to expect. I must admit that at face value, it may look dull and uninteresting. But the fun isn't exact I'm the action as it is the anticipation of finding something. Similar rousing a metal detector, the appeal is hidden riches hidden from the rest of the world. But don't let the simplistic premise fool you, there is some depth and technique as well as a massive dose of patience required to make the most of this activity. At Gold daughters you get a genuine experience that's sure to be addictive and fun for many. Because of the nature of the activity, you may not find any gold organically from the dirt and rock piles in the area. That's just the name of the game. I do like that with admission they give you a "guarantee bag" which yields guaranteed flakes of gold. That way you're guaranteed to come away with some gold (unless you botch the technique and drain your gold, yikes). But don't fear, there are plenty of workers who can help you with technique and identifying the gold. Overall, it was a fun activity to engage in to kill a couple hours. And a nice plus is that it's right across the street from the oil pipeline, so be sure to check that out after! read more

Stopped into Gold Daughters while passing through Fairbanks (funny to say "passing through", it's the end of the world) and spent about two hours panning. Erica and Maxine had all the patience in the world and didn't mind constantly repeating their demonstration for us city slickers. The owners Ilaura and Jordan were incredibly nice and helpful, then we were introduced to Sarah & Camila who assisted my daughter and I in panning for gold. WoW! These two went far above and way beyond what any employee would be expected to give. The day had been rainy off and on, a few big drops fell on us when we arrived. Only two teenage/early 20's customers were panning and having a blast as they discovered more and more gold, so it was just the 4 of us customers for awhile. The other girls finished up and for the rest of the time it was just us. I have to admit that this is not my favorite activity but I did it and ended up with some gold flakes, best of all I had a wonderful time talking to the girls and picking out the pretty quartz, hematite, other rocks and even garnets that were in my pan. Sarah and my daughter share a passion for rocks and they had a ball. It's unfortunate that we had arrived at 4pm - giving us only 2 hours to pan, because my daughter could have gone on for many more hours. The girls all told us to take our time and have fun, but as a working girl I know what it's like to have people still there at the end of a long day when I really want to close up and go home. At NO point did we ever feel that from anyone here - it's just my own thing. Sarah had even stuck around until 6:15 just so she could see how many garnets and gold Jen had ended up with. If I can get a picture of the beautiful necklace that Ilaura had made for Jen with it, and post it I will. Bottom line here is that this place is awesome. I'm leaving out a lot of detail that makes this place different and way better than the others, but I'll count on my daughter to post her own review and cover them.
