I can imagine this may turn some people off - not me, luckily! I had seen Vani-T products online for years, but had not visited the Glenelg store before today. I thought I'd better visit, as Vani-T are a South Australian brand, and do mineral makeup (no nasties!), which is the only type of makeup I will wear ;) The staff were friendly and helpful, and the salon itself is lovely if you are there for a treatment. The makeup range isn't massive (though there are quite a number of lovely eyeshadows), but the products are well priced and good quality. So far I am impressed with the lipstick I bought - if it continues to impress, I will definitely be coming here again for more!

Theyre still using hand held devices for piercings which is a piercing gun which are complestly unsafe!! Staff here are not trained in anatomy, the risk of them permanently damaging nerves, tissue etc is far too high to make it worth it. My friend was pierced here and not only did it get infected the piercer didnt know what she was doing. Please dont run the risk. Do your research and go somewhere that knows what theyre doing.

But I've a collection of very tight muscles that no amount of physio or yoga seems to sort, so I've been glad to discover the Chi chain of massage centres. An hour long remedial massage is just $60 - less, if you can claim on your private health - and you get to keep you gear on. Win! I've been seeing a physiotherapist for various exercise induced issues for a while, and the masseurs at Chi seem to get into the same tight spots. They aren't afraid to use lots of pressure - nothing like an elbow right near your spine to remind yourself that your nerve endings all work perfectly well, thanks! The masseurs always check that the pressure is OK, but I think I might be ever so slightly masochistic - my more it hurts, the more value I feel like I'm getting! I'm not planning to break up with my physio, but a massage in between helps me space out my visits to him. If you are expecting the full beauty salon massage experience you will be disappointed - if you want that level of ambiance, you need to pay for it. The facilities are fine, but the cubicles are separated by curtains, so you do hear the distant thrum of the shopping centre and any pummelling happening to the person next to you. If you want perfect silence, you'll need to take earplugs or go somewhere else. Relaxing music is played, sometimes a little muzak-y, but mostly pretty nice to listen to. I've never had to book, and the most I've waited is 5 minutes. I've no idea how they manage to do that, but it's really convenient to simply decide to have a massage and for someone to be available. The masseurs I've seen there have always been pleasant, professional and polite. I'm taking off a point for the fact that I have to enter and exist Westfield Marion in order to get there - I have a deep aversion to those uber big shopping centres. But the zen from the massage stays with me as I head out the automatic doors, and for an affordable treat I recommend you give Chi a try.

A surly and highly coiffed young barber sat me down. I told him I wanted a "short but not too short" haircut and indicated with my fingers that I wanted about 3cm off all over. Before I could blink he SHAVED the side of my head in a crew cut. I was horrified. I left disgusted and confounded. I now have a shaved section of hair above my right ear. The barber subsequently apologised but the damage is done. Why can't a barber do short back and sides? Surely that is elementary to the trade? You have been warned.

I love the friendly homely atmosphere here. The girls are so much fun and you always have a good time. We end up having some of the oddest conversations. Nothing worse than having someone you can't talk to and feel comfortable with that close in your personal space, coz let's fact it, not like they can cut your hair from a metre away. You never feel uncomfortable there or like you are being rushed through. They always offer you a drink and if you're real lucky (or if you take your child in....) they might bring out the lolly jar! They have a lot of regulars and seem to remember not only all of us, but also all about our families and lives as well. The therapy of a hairdresser........priceless!
