Sounds like an odd combo when you write it like that but these guys have combined the two (or several) arms of their business and seem to be making it work. This is a beautifully decorated salon - and yes they do have a red door! Walk into the shabby chic interior and not only can you have a hair cut or colour but you can also pick up a new cupboard, piece of furniture or a vintage bike. I like to think of them as sellers of beautiful things. Their range of costume jewellery is just stunning and they have a beautiful selection of leather bags. Now while I admit, I've never used their hairdressing services, I am forever peering through their front window to see what they have on offer in terms of quirky pieces. This place is definitely worth a visit if you like unusual and one off things - or if you just need a haircut!

A cut and blow dry will set you back $65 if you have long hair, which isn't too bad. In the scheme of things, Steven Professional is usually a fairly safe and consistent hair salon. This particular Stevens store has recently moved to a new shopping centre complex, which in turn looks very slick and professional. There are massage chairs, plasmas, coffee etc etc. Just don't be too tempted to head towards the beach afterwards or you'll ruin your hair.

The fit out is modern and glamorous but still manages to maintain warmth of character. Situated at the top end of Jetty Road, Glenelg, it is run by the charismatic, ever-smiling Anthony. Romeo and Nathan, the other senior stylists, are equally friendly and helpful. Customer service is excellent. On arrival you are seated and greeted with a warm cup of herbal tea and then taken through consultation on your hair requirements. After the initial consultation, you are then led to have your hair washed in comfortable lie-down chairs, while watching TV on the overhead plasmas if you wish. As well as the overall experience the finished haircut is well executed. Also, they offer an extra service of a free fringe trim in between cuts which is useful. So for technique, service and overall experience I would thoroughly recommend this salon. .

As she massaged the conditioner into my hair the chair massaged my back and legs, such a relaxing introduction. I sipped on a flat white and nibbled on a biscuit, while she expertly cut my hair, applied product, blow dried and straightened it. With 15 years experience, Kim is a gem of a hair dresser - I'm getting my hair styled for a wedding at Vanilla Vibe and will definitely be getting by hair cut there from now on.

This salon takes the idea of relaxation to a whole new level…read more When you sit in the chair, they massage your shoulders, and brush your hair before they start with big bristle brushes that really massage your scalp. The staff are all really lovely and the salon is very stylish. I went here recently on a whim and just had my hair washed and straightened, and I was very pleasently surprised with the service. Abache salon uses a range of organic hair products that have minimal nasties in them. So instead of the chemical laidened shampoo and conditioner you find at other salons, you get a much nicer treatment here. This is great for the staff, and the clients. The basin area is called the "Relaxation Zone" it is in a seperate room and there is a fish tank in the ceiling and calming music played in this area. The lighting is lower and the basins are probably the most comfortable I have ever sat at. They have a long lounge type chair that stretches out in front of them, and the layout allows the hair stylist to be able to wash your hair from behind you. The position of the basin means that the head massage that you get when your hair is washed is to die for! Very relaxing! The over all service at this salon was second to none, and the pricing was very reasonable - I will definitely be going back.
